My ACD does this with her blanket too! My dogs a little girl and she's spayed so it's not humping, its like their trying to throw it behind them or something.
yeah i dont know why the tails get docked. theyre there for balance in the first place. a cattle dog needs it if it's gonna be working all the time. people probably dont want the thing knocking stuff off tables lol
I feel sorry for this poor dog as the idiot owner has cut it's tail off. There is no reason whatsoever to cut off an ACD's tail. We don't do it here in Australia and never have.
I've heard the tails are cropped on ACD so that they don't get bit by whatever they're herding... might have had something to do with pigs. Mine's is cropped, but he's not a working dog, and i've regretted it ever since.
it's the breeding, some have short tails and some have long, I got my ACD from a litter of 12, dad had long tail, mom had short, half the puppies had long tails, and half short, it's wierd
There is a breed of Australian Cattle Dog (the Australian Stumpy Tailed Cattle Dog) which are born with an extremely short tail. But I think it is very wrong for people to dock an ACD tail. It only seems like the American's do it as we don't dock ACD tails here in Australia.
They must have been mixed breed cattle dogs then as full bred ACD's will always have full length tails. Only Australian Stumpy Tailed Cattle Dogs (totally different breed to AC's) are naturally born with very short tails.
That's one frustrated dog! Maybe they should try taking him for a walk! How do you get a high energy dog like a cattle dog and then keep him stuck inside?!
I love this I crack up everytime I watch this-wicked funny music and words! We also have a blue heeler and he does the same thing with our bedspread and pillows. When our daughter was 2 yrs. old she said "Look! Shadow's doing the HOKEY POKEY!So that's what we've called it ever since!
There is, in fact, such a thing as Stumpy Tailed ACDs- they are actually a different breed. Although they look a lot like ACDs with tails, there are some slight physical differences.
Also the dog is NOT "humping" his blanket. My ACD does this kind of stuff all the time when he hasn't had enough exercise. I've see tons of other Heelers do it too. These dogs are SUPER high energy and if you don't help them burn it off, they definitely will find ways to do it on their own.
this video is stupid and so are you. what kind of loser puts whacky music to video of their dog humping a blanket? I'm not prude, I'm all for offensive humor. Just letting you know you're idiots and not half as clever as you think you are.
That was very uncalled for and is more than rude! If you think the dog and the video director is stupid and idiots, then you're saying it to yourself which makes you an idiot and stupid freak! You better apologize or you're going to face consquences!

your acd is absolutely beautiful(handsome), I have a 5 year old and he has less of a tail than yours and alot darker but yours might still be younger.
Wow... people and their Dogs. Your dog is trying to hump it's blanket, not "dance".And the only reason dogs tails and ears are ever cropped,is because of breed standards. It is cruel and un humane and satisfies only the owners own vanity.
Where's this pervert dog from? :D Seriously though he looks and behaves like my female Bell and I don't know if she was humping or not but she was a stout as this dog and the same coloring too and would drag and pile all of the laundry from the basket and go to town.Where did this dog come from?
No. Heelers use their tails as rudders. In fact what you have done is remove the balance. The only reason you ever dock a tail is when you have a working dog who is moving cattle/horses to protect them from being stepped on.
My dog, who isn't an ACD but a Greyhound X GSD, does often does this with his own bed & it's simply his way of making it more comfortable for himself plus our friend's ACD bitch did the same with our dog's bed! :)
Okay, re docking: ACD's that are bred for show are never docked. However, many breeders will dock their working dogs, as if the tail is stepped on and broken, the dog can be crippled, as the tail is a spinal extension. It is done as a preventative. We have two; one docked and one natural. They are both fast as lightning and can turn on a dime. Have you ever seen one stare down a bull? Astounding!
That makes good sense. I know our ACD is fast, too! Although he has never actually been in a situation where he has been exposed to herds, I can only imagine what he would do. He herds people (me). I have never seen an ACD stare down a bull that would be cool! Thanks!
If there's a way I can send you a pic, I think I have one of Roscoe doing just that to a large Brahman steer. The bull's afraid to come by these days :)
I've had male & female acd's "make their beds", and I have to agree - making the bed is not the object. This video is hilarious - it looks just like our Rudy!
Hi Bucks! There is a story behind the other dog looking through the window. She is his older step sister and the window is a sliding glass door between the dining room and the back porch. She gets mad at him when he tries to play and tries to stop him. The day I shot this video, I had to close the door with her inside so he could have a go at his blankie without her interferring! Thanks so much for commenting agian I appreciate it!
Seems to me that the dog is just playing and humping with his blanket instead of dancing with it. The music is funny, funny enough that makes me laugh! Great show!
