Question: When your operating system takes up one cable slot, and there are 3 or more cable slots left open....for the slave drive, what slot would be the "proper" slot? Thanks.
uhm,,,, I cant find my power connection on the left but I have the right data cable for SATA.. MY only problem I cant find it,,I cant find the power connection. Im so noob.
Anyone know if it makes a difference which SATA connection (SATA 0 or SATA 1) is used on the MOBO for the primary boot drive? I just removed the second (data only) drive from my old Dell Dimension 8300 (which I installed a few years ago) and it now it would not boot up properly. I switched between the SATA connections on the MOBO before messing with the Bios (thinking it made no difference which one it was connected to) and now I can't remember which it was connected to before hand. Help!
@GrandmasterBBC do you have any IDE ports at your mobo? cuz if you do, then you gotta run the sata control cd with the sata driver before you are able to boot from the disk. You can google you mobo's name/number and then "sata driver" and you might find what you are looking for. ^^
The reason: When you disconnect your hdd's (if you have ide ports) then the bios will boot from the ide ports. And you have to change that with the sata controller, quite simple!
just a couple of pointers-- u may have to go into your bios settings to make sure your secondary sata port on the motherboard is open-- i had too do that and then go start-- run-- and type in diskmgmt.msc and partition and format the new hard drive-- hope this helps
You can't - each drive will be assigned its own drive letter within Windows. The second hard drive will usually become D:, and any optical drives will follow after that.
I want the drive that boots now to remain teh same an the new one to just be drive D - so if its somewherfe after C in teh boot sequence that should be fine -- yes sry I answered my own question
i really need help, i try to install the hard drive as a partion when i am loading a new windows set up since i built my own computer... i got the HD from a refurb. external and just took it apart... anyway now it wont let em "the disk cannot be accessed and you cant set up windows on this disk".... do you have any idea btw this is my only HD. i plugged it on my computer it recognizes it but it wont let me access th files even when i put it back in the external case... any idea?
what if i run out of power supply plug for my new HD? do i have to get some kind of extension or something? or will i get those when i purchase a new one? thank you
help i have built my own computer and stuck on installing windows vista i have plugged in my seagate sata hard 500gb but wen i come to install the driver it wont i duno if my bios are not right any help wud be most helpful
What i want to know is that if i use my sata usb HDD and remove it from its case, take off the sata to usb connecter would i need some sort of internal HDD case for it or can i just pop it in there.

@jex041489 if you're hdd is Serial ATA(SATA), the power is the biggest one.
the data is the smallest one.
hope that helps!

joisthebest100 2 years ago
If its your primary drive make it master, if not make it slave.

bouncingsoul100 2 years ago
Go into your bios and change it. Look on google for specifics.

bouncingsoul100 2 years ago
Though if you are using IDE i believe you have to physicaly change the jumper on the drive itself.
DEATHTRUTH 2 years ago
thats what I was wondering - the jumper - chipset thing - it only applies to a IDE drive - Not a sata drive - Right?
bouncingsoul100 2 years ago
Yep, with SATA it automaticly detects whether it should be slave or master, according to which has the OS on it so i believe.
