This was from "GOOD NEWS OF 1939", a weekly series on NBC radio [Thursdays, 9-10pm(et)] that promoted MGM's current theatrical movies, AND sponsor General Foods' Maxwell House Coffee. Robert Young was the show's emcee that evening, and the entire hour was devoted to "The Wizard Of Oz", which premiered a little over six weeks after this "preview". This is the complete rendition of the song- portions of it (including the ending) were deleted from the final release print of the film.
We are SO used to the movie, that the added moments here are jarring at first.
But on re-listening, it's really much better in this form--the original Arlen/Harburg setting.
