On the other hand, good boots are more important if you are off trail. Not that big of a problem on a well maintained trail. I have an excellent pair of mountaineering boots, and yet ripped off a ligament in my ankle at 13,000 feet on one of our 14ers. Two hours of surgery later, I'm as good as new.
Nice hike guys, rain can be a bummer. I got rained out of the Weminuche a few years ago.
i hiked this trail in summer of '05...i've been to australia, england, thailand, kenya, zambia and mexico, but the durango/silverton area and especially the ice lake trail trumps all of them for sheer beauty. it's unreal. thanks for posting the video. oh and check out my video. i only have one just now but i think its pretty cool.

Nice Video! How are the access roads up there? Is a high clearance vehicle recommended? I saw that Yaris at the beginning so how did that do?

Beautiful area. Nice video, thanks for sharing. But what gives with the footware? The one guy has trekking poles and wears tennis shoes.....Classic.
