You all are being to charitable in your remarks. The industry was racist and just like in the case of Elvis Pressley vs the writer of most of his hits, black musicians and singers were exploited and went nameless and faceless as a means of perpetrating a lie. Loraine Johnson is one casualty of that systemic racism. Her voice is impeccable. She was also a beautiful women. As a boy I looked at this CD cover and knew that no "Viking women" could pipe with that level of authenticity.

Always loved this track. Great for Hustle dancing. Unfortunately that bit about them always putting a (usually white) model on the covers of these albums still prevailed up until the mid 90's. I remember the pain of feeling like we still had the curse of having to "pass" affecting black people decades after the Cotton Club. Once again the cornerstone the builder rejected.
In spite of these unfortunate realities... we've a legacy of brilliant musical innovation to listen to.
This is my mom...she recorded several disco albums back in the 70's when we lived in Huntsville, AL. She worked with a renowned producer from Nashville, Moses Dillard and Jessie Boyce...until she left the disco circuit and began singing gospel. Recorded 2 or 3 gospel albums here in Nashville, Tenn where we continue to reside. Also, my mom was not a big woman. U can see on the cover of her "The more I want" album listed to your right. My mom can still blow too!
And this is why I always say: YouTube is a miracle! Dear, misskj, tell your mother that I love her voice, and she's really great. I was 15 when this came out and until now, this is one of my best. Thank her for all the joy she brought me in these long years.
I added your words to the summary. Let me know, If you want to add something else.
@misskj72 i have to agree with @kahkeshansard. your mother was a great singer with a great voice, i can see why gospel would entice her. let your mom know that there are still some of us from back in the day, still out here, listening to her music. it's like being imortalized. take care.
@misskj72 Actually your mother is revered in the UK for her earlier 70s SOUL recordings, and her duet with Bill Brandon on Moonsong in particular. Lorraine Johnson is a truly GREAT Soul songstress, for whom this particular side does not do true justice I feel. Please pass on fondest regards from her many fans in the UK, who remember her recordings with great affection.
please note this is not lorraine on the cover but a model used as many disco LPs were concepts. Lorraine is an large weight black woman (true-she performed this on 'soap factory' tv show back in the day). sorry to say most disco acts had bias marketing and were faceless. Not hating just the facts from the industry back then.
Is that so? I was always thinking about the singer. Her sounds is too strong to be a white blond woman. Now I can understand. Thank you for information.
please invent a time machine with these songs so i can go back in time because that is what you do to me man. Afarin and looking at those cassettes drives me crazy. Merci
