They shouldn't have even nationalized our railways coz when the government privatized it again look what happend british rails startied going on the up near the end to.
Worse? don't make me laugh. I remember in '97 it was not uncommon for trains to be 40 minites late, or not come at all. At least now they are reliable.
This is actually part of an modern version of the famous 1930s poetic film Night Mail. ISTR this one was written and filmed some time around 1997 (notice the mention of computers!) Can't find the exact details again at the moment though :(
Has anyone seen the Sir Jimmy & Sir Peter Parker British Rail 6 minute Christmas Day 1979 advert on Youtube?

I always hated this pretentious bloody advert. 'Lettars for the poohr'
Floweryapron 2 years ago
Was the poem written for the advert, or did they borrow one from the boy Betjeman?
MatlockJack 2 years ago
The first Stanza was borrowed, the rest written especially for the ad.
cjmillsnun 2 years ago
the first bit was from a original poem
'here is the night mail crossing the boarder pulling up beatock steady climb'
but most of it is what BR made up for there advert

but will the government listen?
NOPE

the only one way to solve this countries rail network now is
get rid of first group completely (they are ripping us all off for trains that hardly ever are on time)
and bring back british rail
ITW84 3 years ago 5
exactly, u cannot have a profit hungry company running essential services as they can hold the people to ransom like private gas and electricity.
services get shit and more expensive.
privatisation means "we wash our hand of u, u r to much effort to run!". bastards.

Yes, but lets remember it was the tories that privitised British Rail.

Yes and they admit that they fucked it up.
The problem is Labour U turned and made it worse.

Great ad but... did you just point a camera at the TV screen?

It amuses me that this is read significantly slower than the original 1930s version- just like the trains!

Yes Britian's Railway, it belong to the people and was broken up and sold by the Tory Scum! That is one of the reasons I will never vote tory!
bert031078 4 years ago
Ironically, the Tories have proposed that they would group and sectorise Britain's railways, exactly the opposite of what they did!

Someone somewhere must have a better copy of this advert, its BR at its best.

"Britain's Railway" indeed. Unlike the fragmented mess of today.
