  • GPA is first, then MCAT scores, then extracurricular activities are important also, for a reason that was not stated: the medical schools want to see people that have 'lives' outside of medicine. People who are not pure 'bookworms' but are able to cope with life through personal happiness and volunteerism.

If you get so lucky as to be invited to Interview, your personal presentation will carry much weight. Always find out who is interviewing you, and do a literature search on his/her research.

  • Yeah, this is the reality of it all. When you're applying to any school they could truly care less about your volunteer work. It really is just something you could "mention". Honestly if you do not have a 3.99999 GPA or a 36+, get the f*ck out of this stack of applicants.

  • 3.9 and a 36+ is kind of extreme, but your post is true for the most.

  • @SHERmeleon that 3.9 GPA and 36 MCAT is not a fact... have you seen the average MCAT scores and GPAs for the accepted students? Probably not even half the class has this GPA combined with this MCAT score, you always see deviations from this number... like 3.6 and 33 MCAT or 3.7 and 32 MCAT....

  • good job einstein

  • so this confirms the rumor that there is a minimum GPA requirement and all that extra curricular activities will not matter one bit given you have a GPA .1 less than minimum..

  • It's not THAT clear cut, but yes...
