why did they close this place down?? we all used to love this place so mcuh!!!! i remember the rollercaoster and everything......my whole family wood come here for birthdays
This used to be the hang out spot for any teenagers who lived on long island. I used to spend a shit load of money playing DDR and laser tag. I actually even met girls there and got laid for some of the first few times in my life there.
Now they turned it into a freaking gym.... so lame. There's no public place to hang out around here anymore. Anyone know of any alternative arcades like this?
i feels as if that at the heart of everyones childhood, are a few very special places. for little boys like me it was sports plus.i loved that place with my soul. arcades are now non existed, they have been taken over by all home entertainment. it was a great place to hang out. but for you guys out there who cherished this place, i know you feel the way i do
I heard that one closed because somebody fell off the indoor roller coaster... I have been there and I went on that roller coaster many times... I wonder if it is true
I can't believe they raped that War: Final Assault cabinet and converted it into a Sports Shooting USA which is ok, for a "shits and giggles" pick up and play game.
none of the arcade you go to have STACKER. I never have to go down to the store to buy stuff such as wii's/psp's etc. I just win MAJOR PRIZES, Wish they had one at one arcade arround you, You could be rich!
@BedfordMarcus This video is over three years old, so they didn't have Stacker. FunSpot has a Stacker, but we cover arcade games and pinball machines. We rarely feature redemption games, unless it's unique like Mario Mushroom World.
I miss this place so much. I used to go here all the time but now it's replaced by a gym and Jared jewlery. I remember walking away from my parents to look at a game and I could find them. I told a worker I was lost and they took me somewhere, I think the owner or managers office or something
man i miss it der..i remeber wen i used to go der ALL DA TIME but i moved to T.X n i heared dat they closed it down i was soo pissed off !! i had so many memories !! those BASTARDS >:(
@samantha1709910 I already have videos of two of the three Dave and Busters on Long Island, but only one video of Adventure Land. If the place we visit gets too crowded with people, we don't record. So when we went to AL we just did a review of a game, but not the arcade.
all this wonderful stuff goes to the vintage arcade superstore in valencia california so gene and his people can restore them and fix them to look like brand new again... you guys know about the vintage arcade superstore right? i mean you gotta know about it along with another place in connecticut that has a shit load of arcades that they fix and sell
They weren't making any money and the management pretty much sucked. Can't really run a huge arcade like that anymore on Long Island if you don't have people coming in spending money and with skyrocketing prices that LIPA charges for electricity.
sports plus sucked after they got new management sometime during the late 90's (i believe 98/99). machines NEVER worked and were fairly expensive. before then, it was a really good arcade
They went through a couple of owners as they were run.
My friend's farther ran most of the Leisure Bowling Centers on Long Island and I'd always get free bowling passes and he sold off his share of it, including Sports Plus I think a few years after they opened, back when they were good.
The people at Sports Plus just didn't care, they had nobody to fix anything and their prices at the end were just insane. We played one game of air hockey and left, what a rip off.
so many cool ass memories there when i was around 13-16...def fun to hook up with girls in the dark little areas of that biggass place haha..im in florida now for college..but me n my friends still talk about the times in the place we had when i call them and talk about the good ol days lol
the time out arcade in smith haven mall was the real arcade in that area!! all their games worked, they got fixed right away as soon as they broke, and they had a better selection of games, including a bunch of pinballs. RIP TIME OUT 1990-1998
LOL "It's temporarily out of order, It ain't going to go back in order!" I remember there was some game at pinball petes that had a sword that you swing, but it had broken in so many places that it was COVERED with duct tape! You couldn't even see the plastic anymore! I would be very suprised if that game still worked!
I remember there was a place like that in michigan somewhere. It wasn't that big, but bigger than your average ChuckeCheeses. It was called "kids kingdom" It was great but then a new owner moved in and it went down hill. They ripped out half of the "playground" (one of the ball pits and this roller-slide thing, and the punching bags were gone) and replaced with sh*tty rides that cost a fortune to ride, and over half of the machines were broken:'(They went bankrupt.I wonder why? :)
Poor Sports Plus. I loved how it had that authentic 90's feel, all the way to the end. It's being made into LA Fitness. It's just sad to think how a lot of fun childhood memories were held in this building.
From what I heard. Somebody came in on their last day and made an offer. It was somewhere in the ballpark of over 100,000 dollars for EVERYTHING and Sports Plus took the offer. That's why they didn't hold an auction.
I forgot the exact price that was offered and most importantly I have no idea who bought the games and where they'll be going. Maybe they have plans of opening up another arcade on Long Island?
This video makes me want to cry. I rememeber having my kindergarden birthday party at Sports Plus back in 1996. My brother and I had our birthdays there every year until we turned 9. I cant even count how many times Ive been there for parties, the haunted house, ice skating, laser tag or just arcade games with my siblings. Wow, I have a lot of good memories growing up there. Its really sad to see it go. RIP SPORTS PLUS 1996-2007
I remember playing ddr there in 03 with a big line to get on and u were lucky if u got one game in all night. If they actually maintained the pads when they broke there would've still been a huge ddr crowd there. Not to mention i heard the roller coaster tunnel had a fire and a few other problems with it and they closed the coaster down for good. No wonder the place went out of business...
i used 2 work there home gaming console didnt necessarly killed sports plus there r still a lot of people that still go 2 arcades go there with a big group of people n do w/e the hell u want it was more of the owner not spending money 2 fix things he was running that place down 2 the ground 1 step at a time
Xbox didn't kill Sports Plus, Sports Plus killed Sports Plus. They never fixed anything, some of the staff members were rude and they never held any tournaments or held any special events.
All arcades have been down hill since the 16-Bit days so you can't blame XBox itself. I was just quoting what I read in the paper that day.
Yeah. There was another reason that I've heard a few years ago the rides used to open every day, Now they ONLY open the rides on the weekends. Which made me MAD.
I can't belive that Sports Plus is GONE. Stupid people that sold it now THEY want to turn Sports Plus into CRAP!!! Bring back Sprots Plus. I'm so MAD about this.
