  • "ill get close" lol! 11:08

  • I think the screen resolution is 1280x720. It was 2007 back then.

  • You still used dedicated mouse ports in 2007?! Or was it just them?

  • It may be so quiet but after 10 mins of being on it BLOWS UP

  • where can i download the software for free?

  • Comment removed

  • Pirillo must have a P.O. Box for all that free stuff.

  • What the fuck is this shit? Epic fail. Black ops FTW on Win7

  • so.. it's like a mac mini for linux?

  • @1ockedand1oaded Not really. A mac mini for linux would be around mac mini size with a hardrive and a good processor and atleast 2gb ram.

Also it should run Ubuntu or mint. I would buy one :)

  • @sillychicken599 you can buy a mac mini and put a linux distro on it. Lots of people use the mac mini, to run a home theature pc, by putting mythtv on the hardware.

  • @eldersprig Yes but the Mac Mini costs £600+

Who is going to spend £600 on a Linux machine?

  • @sillychicken599 Besides someone who knows that 600 USD is not equal to 600 GPB? :) I told you. Someone who wants a home theature pc cheaper and smaller than they could create it themselves. Its also the size of a book.

  • @eldersprig I never said it was...

  • I've got keyboardmouse

  • wassup with the audio?

  • @GreatUnboxer i think his mic is behind him :P

  • da deee doo da doo de da da cuming out your mouth with your da dee da doo tee heeee heee he oooooooo oo

  • worst quality

  • @PitchBlackGuitarMan check the upload date

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

what did he do to record this.

  • it looks like a mix of a kde panel with a gnome desktop and xfce compositing/transparency

  • It really is too bad the audio quality is so poor, there is alot of important information we miss out on. Maybe a remake of the Zonbu video should be made?

  • @kingmedabe I believe speakers exist. I believe headphones exist. I believe computers have the ability to adjust the volume of the system. Use them and do that...

  • you got free pc ! Lucky

  • ...... Look at his desk!!!

  • BARREL ROLL

    got to love /b/

  • @deathTOvista What's /b/? *coughSHUTTHEFUCKUPNEWFAGcough*

  • @Antipatch Stop spewing your 4chan shit outside of 4chan. Keep your stupidity within the confines of that stupid imageboard.

  • @aidsget why aren't you saying that to that other fag?

  • 18:30 - 20:00 sounded great

  • Comment removed

  • chris please send me a zonbu.

  • its not kde its gnome

  • do a barrell roll

  • i want one

  • Please send me a zonbu.

  • Isn't a cloud operating system one that loads off of the web? as in there is no hard disk?

  • Cool little web box.

  • thats nice

  • lol its pronounced nome not g-Nome

  • It's said both ways ... just like tomato or aluminum.

  • Actually you're wrong. If you're talking about the little dwarf like ornament figure seen on lawns then yes...it's pronounced "nome", but if you're talking about the linux desktop environment then the correct way to say it is "guhnome". Just like the GNU project is pronounced Guhnu. While many say it differently and that's fine, don't correct something who is saying it right and tell them they are wrong.

  • its his name he can spell it anyway he wants its an alias not supposed to be correct like $upserSt4r.

  • his name is chris

  • like any of us dont know that. his name is chris pirillo and his alias is locergnome... anyways i dont give a care about this nome, gnome, gnuome buisness

  • nome gnome whats the difference :) still same crap :D

  • KDE isn't a distribution, it's a Desktop Environment, but this Zombu doesn't look like it's for me. I need "Moar powar".

  • That Zonbu Linux PC looks like more like a router and less than a PC

  • What is behind the red curtain?

    Oz?

  • i think its a window, care to look out of it? *kick* jk

  • how did u make your video 24 minutes

  • he's a partner, partners don't have the 10 minute limit

  • I don't understand that answer he's a partner. A partner of what and still how?

  • "He is a paid youtuber"

He's a parner with youtube, and gets payed for thee adds on his video. There's hundred thousands of partners

  • Oh, what makes his videos good to be getting paid?

  • It might not be good to you, but he gets lots of hits on his video, and that's what youtube will pay for.

The more popular you are the more hits on advertising, more money for Chris.

  • lol

  • yay 101 comment, Linux is really good and they should expand commercially ( spelt wrong i know)

  • you spellt it wrong

  • It looks like a mini computer that was similar to what the Pentium 3 had at one time, harddrive and cd-rom all built in ,but luckily you dont need cd-roms any more,i wonder what speed the Zombu linux computer travels at?

  • The Mac Mini (any generation) is as small or smaller and provides much more function. Most people won't want to store there data in a cloud as the Zonbu does.

  • I love Macs but the Mac Mini isn't smaller and definitely isn't lighter though that doesn't matter with a desktop.

  • sound cuts out :(

  • The sound is screwed

  • why did you have to scare everyone with the terminal??

    that was riged by windoze

  • Subliminal propaganda :P

  • cool, I use ubuntu, but I'm going to try zonbu now, what the hell happened to ustream?

  • I know this sounds kind of dumb but, can you change the wallpaper in zonbu?? its just because most pictures of it don't have different wallpapers.

  • why would you want to?

the cottage reminds me of an upscaled WoW

  • Uh-oh, I smell smoke. No sound? No fans then?

  • Cool the zombu is VIA hardware :3

though i think i would prefer a IDE or SSD drive rather then just a flashcard..

and i'd rather just buy a Artigo and install ubuntu

  • I wanna try it, but i dont want to download 2gig... :-(

  • 2 gig...? I just downloaded debian o,o'

    nearly 19gig

    xD feel my pain yet?

  • What on earth did you download?? All you need to download with Debian at first is like 30 mb, then the rest of the installation downloads as the packages are needed. If you don't have a stable connection all you need is a normal 700mb cd. So where's the other 18 gigs??

  • lol i know i don't need em all... its just that i like 2 have everything :> even if i don't need it.

can't help it, it's just stupid me >:3

    uhuhuhu

  • exactly, 1903mb! how long would that take? a day?

  • less

  • i thought skype was pronounced sky pee

  • lol noooooo... it's skyp = Skype

  • yeah i thought it was pronounced sky poo

    jk...

  • dont be hating! :D

My parents (strong asian accent) pronounced it sky pee ...so i followed them

  • :D hehe ok

  • lol, do a barrel roll

  • I recently wanted to pick up one of these Zonbu Mini's but they are currently out of stock on their website. Have you had any follow up with them? No one seems to know when they will be back in stock.

Are they in trouble financially? Any idea when the Mini's will be back in stock?

  • chris man now that u got the vado hd and got rid of that ugly chat the video look way better now picture quality and sound

  • Nifty, no fans because no large furiously spinning harddrive...

About time we went solid state for my non-green MS desktop...looking at you Mr. Gates.

  • do you live with your mom?

  • I am kind of surpirsed how much Chris' videos have "grown up" since these videos. With the chat so blocky here ;-)

  • i prefer ubuntu better :]

Its funny how people are still commenting this even though its a year old

  • osx wont run on a pc with such low performance so u cant compair the 2. also, osx is almost or even more expencive that this whole computer. its 100 bucks.

  • Wicket will be happy it was Linux

  • Do a BARREL ROLL!

  • 'This is a very dirty way of doing it'

'It's kinda hard to find which angle to put this thing in'

    LOL

Great video Chris! I'm deciding whether to get their laptop or the Acer Aspire One.

  • so chris, would you recommend this to me? im 13 and need a computer for school thats cheap and low-power.

  • no you have to pay monthly for this peice

  • lol "omg"

  • thats prity hot lmao

  • ha its said like "Nome" not guh-nome

  • it is actually pronounced guh-nome

  • haha "this is a very dirty way of doing it"

  • ITS O-M-G

    NOT OMG..

  • Do you have to pay 14.99 a month, or is there away to get it without paying the subscription?

  • the premium version is 14.99 per month, but there is a free version. the only difference is service.

  • That subscription is for 50gb online storage

  • i just chekced the specs for that cmputer and yes it would run windows

  • Hmm.. I have to find where I can get this. ^_^

  • yea... it's just as cheap and oh-so open source!

  • I win this from chris but it has over heating problems.

  • why does the sound keep f*ckin cutting out?? ANNOYING!

  • I like the idea of a "green" computer, like Zonbu, they also have a backup service if you choose it when you buy it. Overall, I think its great someone will step up and say "We need a green computer." By the way, Zonbu also has a laptop verzion of the Zonbu Box.

  • that madd kool i want one

  • Solid state flash disc, that's pretty slick.

  • You have to pay $14.99/month for zonbu service on top of the up front cost. Imagine if windows did something like that! Phew I think we've filled their pockets with way more than enough money to retire happily with. Open Source rules.

  • Is it me or is the audio cutting out on this video off & on over & over again. Is anyone else having this problem with this video?

  • i am

  • I win this on his Giveaway this is going to be a very interesting piece of hardware.I am a tech hardware junkie..

  • I don't like the subscription part at all! :(

  • Hey this Zonbu thing looks like it's about 10 times better than Vista. For starters it WORKS lol!

  • alright vista works its some of peoples hardware thats the problem most of the time

  • It's got the same boot up music I have on Ubuntu Ultimate Edition 1.6...which I'm using right now...

  • That being said I can find this unit being very particularly useful to someone who is new the world of Linux, or someone who wants to set up an ADDITIONAL workstation or online access point somewhere in their house that is more or less self maintaining. This would also be great tool for any techie that reguarly fixes windows problems through the use of linux.

I Would love to see Zonbu fit this kit with DVR capabilities though...

  • The service includes: transparent upgrades, unlimited tech support & a 50GB Zonbu Elastic drive (which I like to call the drive in the sky). From what I understand the "transparent upgrades" keep the OS up to date and current so your system never gets outdated (as long as you have this service) if not then I quess upgrades and such will all be DIY. The "Elastic Drive" service, again from what I understand, automatically backs up all your stuff and lets you share with others online.

  • Interesting...

The Zonbu is actually $299 + $14.99 for the first months service (on the month to month plan). However, if you sign up for one year of service you get a discount of $100 making the Zonbu cost only $199, and if you sign up for two years of service you get a discount of $200 making the Zonbu cost only $99. This is kinda similar to cell phone plans and packages I've seen in the past.

  • No, Mac Mini is larger in order to accommodate a 2.5" hard drive and an optical drive. And more RAM. And a much faster processor....

Zonbu is cheaper initially, but is less functional. Mac Mini gives you a much fuller computing experience, can do an awful lot more, and doesn't use much, much more electricity.

Zonbu has a place in the world, but larger storage and more RAM, as well as a COMMON operating system would add a lot of function.

  • The laptop version which I have just seen on their website 10 minutes ago has a 60GB hard drive which is not really bad for $280...it's interesting really, although I don't like the subscription service much...like, do you "have" to subscribe in other to get one or can you just get one and update yourself and such?

  • $280??? i just checked the website and it says the laptop version is $480!

  • raised the prices... prob

  • LOL! The Mac mini is still smaller! And, of course, it runs on very modern hardware. It even includes a FireWire port! :D

    -The One

  • yeah, but it is way more expenisive! and doesn't get the online support.

  • $300:zonbu pc

    $150: cheap LCD monitor

    $30: keyboard and mouse wireless

    AND the monthly

    $20-40?: monthly high speed internet

$20:monthly plan, you gotta have support and the warranty if you are buying one of these which means someone is tech-retarded

This is today's webTV,its gonna fail they like it or not.

  • did you get that for free

  • do a barrel roll

  • Where can i get Zonbu?

  • A-HA! Chris's skype name is Lockergnome!

  • Zonbox comes with Skype installed; I wonder how well the VoIP app performs. And whether Skype will be upgraded from time to time. (I use Skype to broadcast my 'Net radio program.)

  • this is more than the ususal unboxing video, very entertaining

  • 4gb? ummm. . . that's pretty worthless. i guess it's environmentally friendly until you plug in your display and usb hard drive. and most of the people who will go for zonbu will be using CRT displays, as they appear to be targeting low-income users. CRT's are pretty inefficient. The subscription fee is also troubling. $12.95/mo. adds up to roughly $468 over 3 years, plus the initial $99. Total investment ~ $567? Not worth it!

  • unless it's possible to install a different version of linux on there somehow

  • You use net storage ... the 4gb is only for the initial bootup and whatnot.

  • Great video! Chris is entertaining to listen to and the Zonbu looks really neat.

  • I wasn't either but i saw most of the 24. Blanna sounds like a name from star trek. Did they say how much and if an email service was included?

  • Bwana, not Blanna. Plus dunno.

  • Where can I get the Zonbu desktop wallpaper?

  • shit lol i want it too haaha

  • 08:27 Rick Moranis -->

  • Chris is awesome ^^

  • "Do a barrel roll, yeah to late for that."

    I liked the video Chris!

  • It looks like you can't use this with dial-up, which sucks. This might be a good option for my Grandma, nothing too special, but works well. Too bad they don't have anything but dial-up here. You think it would work if I hook it up to her HP 42" Plasma?

  • I saw your password!

  • Ok So It's $100 For the Zonbu and Only $13 a month for a subscription for 25gb and Only $20 a month If I Want a 100Gb...Is That Really all It is chris? If So I'm Getting One

  • So It's Only $100 For The Zonbu It's self but how much is the service? Sounds Like a pretty Good deal ether way

  • HahA I watched all 24 too haha, very cool.

  • I cant believe I watched all 24 min of this. Pretty cool though.
