I cried to this vid, I was born cleft lip and palate on my left side, and Im 14 years old now. It just amazes me what modern medicine and hope can do for people like him and me. School is hard at first just because of people noticing scars and lip deformities, but you shouldn't ever listen to them because god made you that way for a reason :')

Everything is going to be fine with your baby. My daughter has a cleft and we didn't know till she was born. Take comfort in the fact that you already know and can prepare for it. She is 8 now and she is beautiful. Her scar has faded and you can't tell anything ever happened.

I remember I saw it on Tv. A young man of about 20 he had a cleft lip and difficulties in speaking. A plastic surgeon performed his operation.

He had surgery at 20 and afterwards his appearance was normal only he still had difficulties talking, but that was going to be solved.

So I guess that at 17 you can have an operation as well.

I was born with cleft lip and palate 17 years ago. When I found out I was pregnant, my doctors insinuated that it would be terrible if my daughter was born with the same defect, but I think she'd be beautiful either way. She doesn't have it, but I wouldn't reject her if she did. I had my final revision when I was 14 years old and strangers can no longer tell anything was different.

He will probably look his best after 3 months of surgery. A wonderful team at UCLA has done all of my surgeries. i am so grateful for what i have! I am on the varsity cheer squad, and am in gymnastics and soccer. I have MANY friends. And no one teases me about it AT ALL! I´m Darko´s mother. Sometimes we have to endure difficult times to realize who we are and do great things. Can you breastfeed if your baby has cleft lip?

It depends. If it is just lip, sometimes you can. In Dakito´s case, because it was bi-palate, I used an electric breast milk pump/expressing machine brand Avent, and I did that for 5 months! He loved it, and it was a great opportunity to bond, so I recommed it.
