  • Eine der schönsten, wunderbarsten Kantaten - Oberlin und Gould (mit präparierten Klavier als Cembalo- Ersatz) erscheinen mir beinahe noch eindrucksvoller als Esswood und Harnoncourt.... thank you for posting this marvellous document!

  • THE BEST MI DISPIACE PER HANNONCUORT E SPCI MA SE GOULD HA SCELTO QUESTO TEMPO VUOL DIRE CHE E' COSI E COSI SIA , GRANDISSIMO BACH

BACH E' IL DIO PADRE DELLAMUSICA, E MOZART SUO FIGLIO UNIGENITO --AMEN

  • I feel that this is the definitive version of Cantata 54. I hope that Bach would have approved. Would anybody have any idea where one could purchase the cd, video, or dvd? Many thanks.

  • love this!....and I just found out that Gould wanted to record this with Barbra Streisand. How cool would that have been?? Just Google "Glenn Gould review classical Barbra" to read the article

  • This is a really "alive" performance of this wonderful music. Gould was a genius. All the passion is there.

  • I had some college professors who weren't fond of Glen Gould. Perhaps he's an aquired taste. I dig the hell out of him.

  • @eugenecoreno He is most certainly an acquired taste. I love him for his Bach, but not for much else. His treatment and interpretations of Bach's works are absolutely inspiring and enlightening to listen to, despite all of his quirks and character flaws.

  • @SANPH I've found that his Hindemith was quite interesting. I think his interpretations on non-Bach stuff are more comprehensible if you can find any video of him talking about the piece or composer. He seems to have had a bit of a contrary streak in him that can make him seem more eccentric. There is some interesting video of Leonard Bernstein talking about playing with Gould and why, in spite of Gould's unorthodox take on the piece, Bernstein felt it was worthwhile.

  • This is stunningly beautiful.

  • Glenn Gould and Russell Oberlin. How can you lose?

  • @eugenecoreno Oh, in so, SO many ways...

  • I always have had great admiration for both musicians, and I enjoy listening to this with regularity. Gould conducts this cantata in a much more successful, flexible, and musical way than Leonhardt, whose interpretation is relentlessly pedestrian.

  • It was ripped from VHS. I am not sure whether it is available on DVD or CD. Sorry.

  • This thing is finally on DVD. Any Glenn Gould fan should get you hands on this 10 DVD set! Glenn Gould on Television: The Complete CBC Broadcasts, 1954-1977

More than 19 hours exclusive video of Glenn Gould! Thanks to SONY. Available at Amazon.

  • This is, I believe, the leading version of Cantata no. 54. Is this available on DVD or CD?

  • represent the burning inner heat of Germans

  • This is wonderful!
