  • Awsome Try! Two great players at a great club. Wish Kenny and Ella could have played together at Wigan.

When Ella was at Wigan, he came to our school for a talk, all the kids mobbed him for autographs. haha

  • Mr perpetual motion at dummy half, passes to sterlo, sterlo to the crow, the crow draws and passes beautifully to burt, burt hits the gap at speed, lovely to watch, burt then unloads back inside to zip zip man who simply glides across the ground to score. Legendary stuff !!! Parra 4ever !!!

  • Awesome try, Go Parra.

  • What about the Crow's ball and then Kenny's in and away??? Does not get any better than that,

  • Rabs sounds about 21! Vintage Parramatta. Cronin, Kenny then Ella. If Kenny put his mind to it, he probably could`ve scored. Love the shot from behind the Parra backline. Looks like a dad letting his kids have a run with the ball. With all due respect Mr Cronin.

  • Ahh... the Zip-Zip!!! After last night (Prelim. Finals Eels vs. Bulldogs) the Eels are slowly returning to passion, after the late CEO Denis Fitzgerald banned our legends from ever mixing with the players. Funny to hear Ray Warren in his early days!

  • no wonder eels won 4 rings in the 80's

  • awsome what a try

  • Bugger me, how on earth could you have stopped that lot?

  • shame these days parramatta dont have any more passion. ray price was a legend

  • Kenny & Ella & Nandruku(with Canberra) my favourite players of all time!

  • I agree that people forget how good Kenny, Ella and co. were. Also, remember that the defence was only 5 metres away in those days - the mind boggles as to the tries they would have scored against defences forced to stand 10 metres back. Oh and to that Saints fan (ggregstar): well, consider it payback for '77 when Parra should have won that first GF:)

  • Bloody effortless wasn`t it. After watching it for the 116th time I thought Cronin held that pass up pretty well. Good team, the older stronger fella to stand in tackles and set up the cheetahs outside him.

  • It was even 10 metres back then. I played school rugby league for Belmore North (I was 12 then) and we had to get back 10 metres when defending otherwise we'd be penalised. My teach and coach back then was Wayne Smith who was playing for the Cronulla Sharks and had previously played for Western Suburbs Magpies.

  • and yes kenny the BEST .. prop was he was so good they played mih every whener .. 5/8 best ever

  • i recall one origin that i think 11 or twleve of NSW players were from parra.. and yeah we owned em

  • Its sad when the so called experts (who only seem to remember games played in the last three years)pick legends of League sides. They always fail or forget to mention players like Ella and Kenny. And I'm not even a Parramatta supporter!

  • Yes because people who remember these players are not in the NRL's key demographic!! I hate NRL-News LTD so much. I the NRL would force clubs to return back to traditional jerseys!

  • ah yes - 1984 1st semi! the next time the sides met 2 weeks later, saints beat parra all over the field, the grandstand, the city but not the scoreboard! it was my lowest ebb as a supporter. with 2 minutes left and saints leading 7 - 4 & having parra pinned in their own tryline, kevin roberts miraculously found 3 offside penalties in a row which he hadn't found for the previous 75 minutes. parra were piggy-backed downfield by the ref & presto! grothe scores the winning try on the buzzer! RORT!

  • i remember it to well also. this was a major let down and lets not forget the following season against canterbury. they certainly fooled us into thinking we had them measured by playing soft in the semi and then belting us in the big one. very smart tactics by the dogs. i believe it was these 2 seasons that set the dragons culture up for losing. the club lost the plot for the next 6 years and then 4 gf defeats in the next 8. dam 84, 85

  • I wish there were more vids like this on here. Three things from this video

    1. Kenny's huge step!

    2. Steve Ella's glorious running style.

    3. Great to hear some early Rabs Warren !

    And.. The great replay music!

  • Back when Warren used to be able to commentate!! Even still he is not a patch on the Moose!

  • Both, I feel aren't valid enough to hold the greatest commentator in Rugby League's team sheet. The late, great, Frank Hyde.

  • Yeah, well as we all know Frank was in a class of his own.

  • Parramatta power! The 80's I can never forget.Parramatta with their devastating backline. But who can't forget their epic battles against our arch rivals the Bulldogs.

  • the best back line ever !!!!

kenny is the best no 6. wally is an immortal but everytime he came up against kenny he always came off 2nd best...... well maybe not always : )

  • Back in the day..... the Paramatta legends

  • I miss those years. What a great backline Parrmatta had back then. Kenny went around O'Grady like he wasn't there and Ella backed up beautifully.

  • Good stuff champ. Love your work.

  • St George #11... hang your head in shame!

    Go Parra!

  • Awsome!

  • Wow! the greatest backline ever! Sterlo, Cronin, Ella, Kenny, Grothe! 81 82 83 What great years!!! Thanks for uploading this you are a legend.

  • Shit I miss the 80's footy. Parra had the best backline to ever play the game. The only back line from any team to be chosen for state of origin all at once(I think?)! Go the Eels. Sterlo is God!!!

  • We scored tonnes of great tries like that. If you could put up some Brett Kenny intercepts you'll be a god in my eyes!!!

  • What a great try! a8anatos you've done well!

  • go eels, cheers for the video a8anatos.

  • kenny poetry in motion . That backline was devastating , i think NSW one year picked the entire Parra backline bar one .

  • Was this match from a 1984 semi-final

  • Superb passing and backing up. What a pass by Cronin and Kenny and superb backing up by Ella.

  • What a backline!! Great positioning by Cronin, brilliant change of pace by Kenny and wonderful support play by 'Zip Zip.'

  • And not a bad step either.
