look at Otis eyes in the beginning when Ron starts singing and Dennis tells him to sing I think something happened before they came out because they all seem to be cracking up at Dennis for some reason and it certainly wasn't his singing ....
@lovie2000 This is actually the continuation of the Original Temps, not the Temptations Review. Otis is sitting botton right on the steps, Melvin is in the top left, along with Richard Street, Ron Tyson and Dennis Edwards.
Dennis Edwards has the most soulful, southern preacher churchified, voice in the history of music. That man can straight SANG folks. He is strong and rough with a song, u know...manly, with Silent Night! I know that David Ruffin was the greatest Tempts lead singer in the minds of many, but I will take Dennis any day.
OMG!!!!!!!!! Thanx soooo much 4posting. I alway's loved 2hear the Temptation's singing Silent Night my favorite Christmas song!!!!, Sooooo Beautiful no one can sing it quite like them to me!!!!!! Luv it!!!
@datsmytudapuda Girl I agree 100 percent with you with your comment on the Temptations. Im glad I found it on your Channel. I miss David Ruffin from being the singer on it though.
This is to me The Classic Video Version of The Temps doing Silent Night. I remember watching the show when it came on TV. Thanks for Posting, and in in such good quality.
Four of the five temptations in this combination sang on "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" (Otis, Melvin, Dennis, and Richard). Ron (the one sitting in the middle and who "replaced" Eddie Kendricks) joined the group in 1983 at Motown 25.
@rizzy252 If you're asking about the first guy singing falsetto.... that is Ron Tyson.... he didn't replace Eddie Kendricks.... this group you are looking at here is Dennis Edwards set of Temptations.... calle the Temptation Review featuring Dennis Edwards......
Not Otis Williams the originator of the Temptations group.....
@lovie2000 This is not Dennis and the Temptation Review. This is the Temptations with Dennis Edwards, Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Richard Street and Ron Tyson.
This is the most beautiful Christmas song that I have ever heard in my life. Ron Tyson has got that falsetto voice down packed. He has a beautiful voice and he sounds soo much like Eddie Kendricks. Glenn Leonard sang the falsetto lead on the original song and he tore it up, but out of all of Eddie Kendrick's replacements after he left the Tempts, Ron is the one. And Dennis and Melvin put the icing on the cake. I listen to this song all year long even though they didn't sing the full version.
As many times as I've seen this clip during my life, I still can't figure out why Otis, Richard and Ron were laughing so much toward the end of the song.....they keep looking in Dennis' direction. Maybe he did something..... lol
Actually the version with Eddie is more popular being that it actually made the charts reaching #7 on the Pop charts. The only difference between the one from 1970 and the one from 1980, is the beat and the melody is different and Dennis and Melvin share lead as well.If Eddie had lead on this one it would've shot to number 1. Any falsetto of the Tempts can sing this particular version
This is NOT the 'original recorded-version' of this song which came out on the Temptations' Christmas Album in 1978.... GLENN LEONARD does the original falsetto/tenor lead on this, not RON TYSON! EDDIE KENDRICKS had a slower more subtle version of 'Silent Night' from their 1968 Christmas album, but GLENN LEONARD's version is the most popular!
@glynnh05 ,it doesnt matter this one has a different melody, any of the falsetto singers for The Tempts could've sang it, and it would be just as popular, Eddie Kendricks sang to a different melody, if Eddie had sung the one in 1980 it would be the most popular also, same with Ron Tyson, you see him singing it here, it is the melody that is the key, not the falsetto singer
This episode of Motown Christmas was one of the best Christmas specials ever. I wish I could get the whole show on DVD. Thank you for posting this, it brings back so many great memories.
