I always find the chords so beautiful but I never get why theres so much vibrato and such. If they just played it straight and airy, it would be just as beautiful if not more.
@eltfell not quiet a spinoff. the german anthem is the second movement in the emperor quartet by haydn. basicly what you are hearing right now. the lyrics were written by fallersleben were added in later and it was made the national anthem in 1922.
@chockn Well, to precise, the 2nd movement of this quartet is a spin-off from another anthem written for the Austrian emperor (thus the name of this quartet): "Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser". Then, he composed the Emperor Quartet (in the same year 1797, I think) and in 1841, Fallersleben wrote the lyrics for the Song of the Germans, when he was on Helgoland (british at that time).
So, the German anthem is a spin-off from a spin-off. Quite a convoluted history, indeed.
Wonderful music coupled with superb pictures= a really good watch! Thanks for uploading this video!

Am I wrong or is/was the beginning part of the German National Anthem?

You are not wrong. The German Anthem is - so-to-say - kind of a spin-off from this.
