Thanks for your comment. I was not making a speech here. Without a live audience all the rules change. Even the best TV networks have to enhance their comedies with "canned" laughter.
Learning to be funny is not necessarily funny. I've made millions of dollars doing funny speeches, but if you saw me the night before working really hard on word choice and picking appropriate humor for the audience, you would say there is not much humor here. The payoff is when the live crowd laughs.
What would you say a good prop is for a student council speech?
