It always amazes me that people think auto's are slower. When was the last time you saw an auto driver miss a shift? And I'll kiss the mans shoes who can shift faster than a well built auto. That said, of course i prefer manual, and of course it can be more fun, but guess what, in a straight line, the tables turn.
Hypothetically speaking, can you imagine a funny car utilizing a manual transmission? You can be a hater of an auto for street use, but when its time for the drag strip, an auto transmission, if setup correctly, simply will dominate a manual setup every time

The only thing that I have to say about the automatic vs. manual deal is that ford for some unknown reason put cast cranks in the automatics and forged cranks in the manuals,so the manual would be the desirable one to have if you were going to supercharge it.The automatics were also speed limited to 126mph if I remember correctly,to protect this cast crank.WTF ford????Very nice ride here though,automatic or not.
whats awesome about the mach 1 is its the aluminum terminator without the supercharger and still makes almost as much hp...what if you put a KB supercharger on it...

Autos shift faster than humans. I have an 01 Eclipse and i pasted 3 cars on a lengthy straight stretch and hit 105 in a matter of seconds. We're talking a dyno tested 223hp car here. Thats IT! So i can imagine the power in the Mach 1 Autos. I may get the grey one i found, with only 7600 miles on it, a 2003.

No theres a point of having a shift light in an auto. Perhaps you don't know you can control 1st, and 2nd gear in an auto. That is the point, if you shift at the wrong time you could seriously damage your transmission
For all the people asking about the shift light, don't forget he could be running a manual valve body which is pretty easy to bounce off the limiter just like a stick.
I don't know about all the auto statements. I had the same car same color in a 5 spd and the trannys suck. Tremec 3650 eats synchros (been there and done that and yes I can drive so spare the comments). Once you have one built, like the one in this video, an auto is preferable for drag racing because it eliminates human error of missing a shift. And I know all of these wonderful youtube drag racers would never miss a shift.
Bitching about it being an automatic is one thing, but simply pointing out that a shift light is pointless in a car that shifts for you is another. Some people prefer one over another just because they like one more. If you are a chest guy and find a girl who has A cups you will probably bitch cause you want her to have D's. @Fleeger09 It is not necessarily pointless to have a shift light with an auto. They come in very handy when your trans has a full manual valve body (no automatic features). If that were the case, his car would be a manual without a clutch pedal and a shift light would be useful. Or maybe he is manually shifting into gears....

@Sirsixxalot I don't consider manuals to be more "manly" or more "race car" than automatics. But for me personally. I don't like Autos, but everyone is different. In my opinion I think that as a driver you have more control over the car with a manual than an auto and I think that manuals are more fun. But that is my opinion. I like manuals better for my daily driver/fun car. If I had a strictly track car for racing I would have a built auto in it for better times, but for my DD I like my 6spd.

You can do so much more with a standard transmission, i.e. clutch kick drifting, launches, and double clutch downshifts, making it faster than an automatic transmission. Also, it has less chance of being stolen. Everybody who can drive a car, can drive an auto, but not everybody can drive a stick...

@ADD8oi ummm i think so...actually a ls1 has aroud 350 crank hp with headers and a tune around 330-350 rear wheel depending on if its a 6spd or auto. my friends 2 ss's that run 11.5 and 11.6 dynoed 338 and 332 rwhp so around 380 or so crank maybe more they are auto's so its about a 20% drivetrain loss around 15% on a 6spd.
and for the weight maybe a gt weighs 3800lbs my 04 c5 weighs around 3200 w/o me and my friends ss weighs 3450 w/o him around 3600 race weight. a c5 z06 weighs about 3100lbs and puts out aroud 350-365 rwhp!! so before calling me a liar u need to realize lsx's are a gift from god lol
@toggahp camaros and corvettes are 2 very different cars, a corvette isnt what im talking about, and the sn95 mustangs weighed in at 3300lbs, lol lsx's are great engines, but my fords are better :) 4 second 0-60 with rollout and 435bhp on the 2011 in my garage :) im pretty sure im fine where i am, now i admit ford had power issues with the 4.6L but they kept up perfect with their competition just fine, all in all, mustangs are better cars imo, everyone has their own

@toggahp buddy, you keep bringing the engines tuned for the Corvettes, now the 6.2 used in the mustangs competition, the camaro, is not a great engine, sure its got decent numbers but it weighs a boatload, the 2011 5.0 has 435bhp and smokes the 6.2 while getting ground shattering mpg, you need to stop comparing engines designed and tuned specifically for the corvette to fords mustang engine, they are built in completely different ways, now the corvette has NOTHING on the GTX1, no gm car does

yep thats always been chevys problem they think the bigger the motor the better the horsepower not always true a 4.6 liter running 11.5 not bad at all compared to a z28 that sounds like a turd and problem ran like one to thats why his setup was 15 grand my father paid 375 dollars for a totaled 5.0 has a procharger putting out 14 pounds of boost and makes just at 500 RWHP he has spent about 10 grand with various body parts and a killer paint job to boot he had to replace the block cause power

The only thing that I have to say about the automatic vs. manual deal is that ford for some unknown reason put cast cranks in the automatics and forged cranks in the manuals,so the manual would be the desirable one to have if you were going to supercharge it.The automatics were also speed limited to 126mph if I remember correctly,to protect this cast crank.WTF ford????Very nice ride here though,automatic or not.

Autos shift faster than humans. I have an 01 Eclipse and i pasted 3 cars on a lengthy straight stretch and hit 105 in a matter of seconds. We're talking a dyno tested 223hp car here. Thats IT! So i can imagine the power in the Mach 1 Autos. I may get the grey one i found, with only 7600 miles on it, a 2003.

I don't know about all the auto statements. I had the same car same color in a 5 spd and the trannys suck. Tremec 3650 eats synchros (been there and done that and yes I can drive so spare the comments). Once you have one built, like the one in this video, an auto is preferable for drag racing because it eliminates human error of missing a shift. And I know all of these wonderful youtube drag racers would never miss a shift.

@Sirsixxalot I don't consider manuals to be more "manly" or more "race car" than automatics. But for me personally. I don't like Autos, but everyone is different. In my opinion I think that as a driver you have more control over the car with a manual than an auto and I think that manuals are more fun. But that is my opinion. I like manuals better for my daily driver/fun car. If I had a strictly track car for racing I would have a built auto in it for better times, but for my DD I like my 6spd.

I can't help but laugh when people bitch about automatics... it tends to come from dudes my age and younger who don't know what they're talking about (or how to push a car), or people who have closed minds and won't acknowledge fact. If you need to push a clutch and punch through an H pattern to have fun with a car, you have a lot to learn.
I'm a road course guy, so I love manuals and I do think they are a bit more fun to drive. An auto has its place on the strip and in street cars.

@ADD8oi ummm i think so...actually a ls1 has aroud 350 crank hp with headers and a tune around 330-350 rear wheel depending on if its a 6spd or auto. my friends 2 ss's that run 11.5 and 11.6 dynoed 338 and 332 rwhp so around 380 or so crank maybe more they are auto's so its about a 20% drivetrain loss around 15% on a 6spd.

@toggahp camaros and corvettes are 2 very different cars, a corvette isnt what im talking about, and the sn95 mustangs weighed in at 3300lbs, lol lsx's are great engines, but my fords are better :) 4 second 0-60 with rollout and 435bhp on the 2011 in my garage :) im pretty sure im fine where i am, now i admit ford had power issues with the 4.6L but they kept up perfect with their competition just fine, all in all, mustangs are better cars imo, everyone has their own

@ADD8oi and i belive ur friends 02 built/ supercharged with 500rwhp ran a 12.4!! the reason is NO TRACTION!!! he may have ran 12.4 but his trap speed was probably 120+!! and to have a built/ boosted lsx making only 500 rwhp??? they screwed him over. a stock ls1 with a procharger makes over 500 rwhp!! theres a guy here in ama with a h/c/i full bolt on c5 z06 thats putting down around 490 rwhp

@ADD8oi u just cant accept that chevy makes a way better engine!! and ford will never come to close to something as great as an ls1/lsx and lol speaking of built/ boosted lsx's my mechanic has a 2002 c5 z06 with a forged 347 h/c/i and full bolt-on's with a vortec supercharger and it is making around 680 rwhp on pump gas?? but like i said check out ls1 tech and look at the fastest bolt-on ls1's and make sure u check out the weights of the cars? full weight most of em

@toggahp no, i can accept that the new generation lsx's are beasts, the ones after 05, the 02 camaro was just a slow car cause it had a downgraded corvette engine and only made 320 hp, cmon be realistic, it weighs 3800lbs NO driver, its not that fast of a car, now what i should have mentioned is that with the PROPER boltons, and or forged engine, it is a monster, but fords TiVCT engines and EcoBoosts, paired with the weight of the car it blows its competition clean out of the water an into orbit

@ADD8oi u are officially an idiot!!! the 02 camaro has the exact same engine as the 02 c5 corvette!! the only thing different is the front belt stuff!! the only reason the corvette was rated at 350 and the camaro at 325 is because the corvette is the best and fastest chevy so it would look bad if it had the same hp rating as the almost $15,000 less camaro! and as for weight my old full weight ta weighed 3600 lbs with me in it

@toggahp buddy, you keep bringing the engines tuned for the Corvettes, now the 6.2 used in the mustangs competition, the camaro, is not a great engine, sure its got decent numbers but it weighs a boatload, the 2011 5.0 has 435bhp and smokes the 6.2 while getting ground shattering mpg, you need to stop comparing engines designed and tuned specifically for the corvette to fords mustang engine, they are built in completely different ways, now the corvette has NOTHING on the GTX1, no gm car does

@toggahp how little i know?? i have owned both a 2000 ws6 trans am and now i own a 2004 corvette as far as performance the cars are even in a race!! as for the new 5.0 engine i just looked it up and it can run!! but a 02 ss runs exactly the same as a 2010 camaro!! its so sad that ford's new 5.0 still cant blow away chevy's 13 yr old ls1?

@toggahp Dude you don't know what you are talking about ,stock 03-04 cobra ran 12.6@113 and bolt-on cobra ran in the 11 sec range. Chevy corvette are fast cars but when you put that same engine in a Camaro { 2010 } you get 13.sec time slips.And no Camaro or Firebird from the factory stock has beat a cobra. Now 2011 Mustang GT mops the floor with the Camaro SS. Just like you chevy guys when the Mustang rapes the Camaro you scream for the vette get hell outta here.!!!!!!!!!

@ADD8oi here in fayetteville speed way,, even the 2010 mustang gts been running aroung 14-14.6 and i seen a ss run 11.7 with headers and 75 shot of zex(shitty nitrous) and a z28 run a high 12 with headers only,,, mustangs are pos in my opinion even my lil lt1 runs better than them

I guess that's why the new Mustang 5.0L puts out 412HP and the new Camaro SS puts out 400-426HP with a 6.2L.
Besides, a Mach 1 is worth a hell of a lot more than an 01 Z28, so your cost/cost comparison is irrelevant, much like your entire post.

yep thats always been chevys problem they think the bigger the motor the better the horsepower not always true a 4.6 liter running 11.5 not bad at all compared to a z28 that sounds like a turd and problem ran like one to thats why his setup was 15 grand my father paid 375 dollars for a totaled 5.0 has a procharger putting out 14 pounds of boost and makes just at 500 RWHP he has spent about 10 grand with various body parts and a killer paint job to boot he had to replace the block cause power

@jcostiga01 yes, an automatic needs a shift light too, if you knew about drag racing you would know that you just dont stick it in DRIVE then floor it, you start in 1 then slap it up through the gears.
