  • I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

  • can someone tell me waht is special about panerai? is it a special mechanism or something i dont know a lot about this watches..., thx 4 answer

  • panerai beauty grows on you. at first, it doesnt look much but as you become familiar w/the shape it looks better and better.

  • Exactly! Thats why i just bought my first Panerai! At first i was 'meh' then i saw it again and it just poked me... Now i can't leave without it!

  • I particulary agree with you,

Im currently waiting to receive a very beautiful 5218-202\A Pre-Vendone in his original box by Fedex this week.

  • No, it's a real one. The finish on the older ETA-sourced Panerai movements isn't the impeccable hand finish you see on the new in-house movements.

  • You have an expensiv watch, great. Can you scuba dive with it, safely? Is it durable for that price?

  • fake panerai movement.

  • How many fucking times do i have to tell you halfwits?

  • Panerai is beautiful without a doubt, but JLC, IWC, FP Journe, phillips dubois, Chronoswiss are more beautiful, the Panerai just is cooler because of the Naval connection but the Ulysse nardin marine maxi diver is really awesome looking as is roger dubuis easy diver, $4800 for a base panerai is just too much, even the planet ocean is more of a watch and is cool too!!!! if you have it congratulations, i love this watch as well but rather buy other pieces first.

  • but for sure not an original one!

  • yep - look fine and very cheap from 99brands

  • deyuki02, dream on... :D

  • i got panerai daylight you ?

  • asombroso

  • fuck the watch.

man your cam is great.what brand and modell is it?

  • My first watch i was given as a child was cheap russian mechanical watch POBYEDA(VICTORY ;-) from 1955 they was so precise as they was faster 1 second a day. My current Casio digital watch are 0.5 sec a day faster - not much progress for 50 years of advance in technology of the watch.

I like the sound of mechanical watch.

  • eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • wow. why couldnt nature distribute this type of extremely high technical/spacial intelligence throughout the entire "human" population? Seems Caucasians are the only ones who possess this type of intellect. NO FAIR!

  • Wow. An overpriced ETA movement. If you guys want to see a sick digital rendering of a watch movement, search the terms CGI Blancpain

  • I think you are "quite wrong" about the Blancpain video. These watches are top quality hand assembled and regulated. Please go do your research.

  • The research is done. Panerai uses the same ETA movement that you or I can purchase for $180. They tune it and regulate it, but the base movement isn't an in-house invention of some enormous quality as the price tag of any given Panny suggests.

Panerai is the only 'high end' watch that can be "faked" to an almost perfect degree of accuracy, since the movement is an ordinary ETA and the case and components aren't anything special. Pannys offer the least "value" out of all the high end watches.

  • Actually, it is more like $98. Check out Ofrei dot com for an ETA 6497. This is why Panerai has invested quite a bit of money to develop their new in-house movement. Otherwise, what you really would paying for, is the dial.

  • You are right. Panerai used many other ETA movement 2893 for GMT, 7750 for Chron etc.

Nice watch but over priced. I may add crown guard for the price.

  • The research is apparently not done on your part Panerai doensn't use the same ETA 6497-2 movement as other companies do in fact the 6497-2 movement is only found in Panerai watches and the 6497-1 is a poor mans Panerai please do your research before you comment on expensive watches that you only know little about.

  • A waste of time...

  • boring!!! couldve added commentary or something!

    B O R I N G!!!!!!

  • M O R O N!!!! Can't be that boring or it wouldn't have been featured on Gizmodo...

  • Oh cos Gizmodo is the authority of action packed/exciting Youtube viewing is it???? bwaahahah

    N E R D!!!!!!

  • That watch makes a lot of noise.

  • HEY WHATS THE NAME OF THAT SONG YOU GOT IN THE BACKGROUND [sorry i could not resist this hilarious, hilarious joke]

  • I think the real question we all should be asking is......."WHAT TIME IS IT!?!?"

    :-)

  • Video shot from a video screen, judging from the bar that crawls up the image. (I expect someone else has already said this in technical terms that I missed.) Neat stuff.

  • Take a highly detailed macro zoom video and place it on youtube with terrible video quality and picture size. Nice move!

  • i can imagine in HD this would look even more amazing! great job.. only wish Icould play with such fantastic toys as a "Baty" industrial spec Optical Co-ordinates Measuring System. :)

  • Most interesting. I have a Power Reverse 44mm myself and I never got the oppurtunity to look inside any Panerai at all.

  • I am guessing after watcing the video that the maker of this video also is trying to show that this is not a genuine movement.

  • This watch is a genuine,authentic Panerai,and as such uses a modified-by-Panerai Unitas movement.

The reason you may think it is non-genuine is the high level of magnification. The resolution reveals such detail of the parts that they may seem to be of a lower quality of finish to which you expect.

I can assure you,it is authentic....

The images were taken using a "Baty" industrial spec Optical Co-ordinates Measuring System,in a manufacturing environment(hence the background noise).

  • I would also like to know how the video was shot. Possibly with a video magnifer setup.

However the movement is not a genuine Pam Movement Or is it a genuine ETA movement.

  • Beautiful & interesting video. Thank you for posting this.

  • Fascinating. Would love originator to post a comment as to how this was done. What type of equipment? Obviously a microscope with a video connection. Thanks for posting this.
