I used to go over to Springfield, MO to Third Eye Music when I was in college at Pitt State in Pittsburg, KS. Their "store" was in an old house at the time. I'm thinking about 1978 or 1980 I could have bought a refinished '58 stratocaster for $850.00. It looked like new. I thought, "I can buy a new one for less...." I walked out, and I've kicked myself in the butt ever since.
So what was that Hawiian guitar that at my Mum made my idiot brother (had no tune in his head) It was that crappy movie "South Pacific" Drums did not work . Flute failed The recorder Well no. The saxaphone the oiano was there in our living room and yet the last but not least was ...tuba. We were in HELL . Many thanks for reminding me of what was inevitable
I have the "Guitar Player" magazine where Vic Dapra's guitars were featured. I have to laugh now when they mention that some of these original '59s and '58s were worth $3500! If I only had a time machine!
@Goldenmonkey65 what year & month was that issue of guitar palyer mag i have a bunch of old ones but can't find anythg about les pauls..my mags are from mid 80's - thru late 90's btw
@a64tbird You obviously have no appreciate of musical history or have never had a cool personal experience like this so that you can understand its magnitude. Kids...
I played with Tom in Bonn/Germany several times. Not only a LP expert, but a great player/performer, too. Not to mention a humble guy considering he plays gittars that are worth a fortune.
He might have misunderstood my joke about that 'piece of crap' guitar that he brought with him... It was a beauty, obviously
Great vid! Come to England and see how much these babies will cost you, its unbelievable! I'm going to get one when I next go to America, it's better that way methinks
Try E-bay on the internet. That where I got one + Might be deffected or damaged as mine was> E & B string cut into the frets. Only about 13 of the frets slightly cut. No big dael + I don't even play that good. Just cowbow cords :)
Yeah about this time in Boston the sunburst ones were going for $1800 IIRC. You did well if you could get one and sell it a year later for $100 ($200 if you were a good wheeler-dealer) profit. My '61 Strat was $269, which was $25-35 too much, and I was derided for it.
