4 times visitor to the Dom Rep; twice in the North and twice in the South. Last visit was 2007 and we can't make it this year.

It's a great place to go on vacation and I love every moment ... I only wish I could get there more often. Thank you for showing your slideshow, I really enjoyed this :-)

@frost310 you sure about that ? the dominican republic unlike puerto rico is a REPUBLIC, which means that it is an independent,sovereign nation. Puerto Rico is still a foreign country's colony. for gods sake almost half of the puerto rican population is too scare to be independent and face the world along. DR is free, democratic, and prosperous. and we have absolutely nothing at all to envy or be jealous of a small imperial power's colony, which is what Puerto Rico is.

I've been to Santiago and Sto. Domingo. I really can't say I had any problems. I also got to spend time in a very rural village. But I was with a group of people though. I didnt run into any problems with the locals. All I can say is they are really friendly people.

It is fairly safe. There is a shortage of police officers in the tourist areas, but like wmier2 said, the people are very friendly and good.

The first time I went the crime rate in the Domincan Republic was less than 3%.; I don't expect that to have changed much. That's based on the fact that prison *is* prison and unless you have outside support to help feed you should you fall foul of the law then you are gonna starve! :-)

yea, When I went there, the hotel had to give out tons of free bottel water, wich the advise you to drink and brush your teeth with. But the water really only gives you diarrea, i know, I drank some water in the shower and the next day i had to go every hour.

I like this video, because of the fact that it depicts the real Dominican Republic. that which is full of history and hardworking people. Our country is great in many ways and Tourism is very important for the economy but i hate those videos and promotions made for foreigners (mostly European and American)that depict D.R as a sex paradise. i think it is sad that some foreign countries still ignore the fact that our country is more than sex and alcohol.
