@CodyRicheson Im guessing they glitched the game where the gun pulling out at the start of the level was haulted by something the player was doing, so it doesnt appear until a later level
The team behind this restricted their jumping, as this was their initial attempt, and they also wanted this run to be aesthetically pleasant and framerate independent.
For more information, I refer you to the "Quake2 done Quick2 FAQ".
@Naroon201 actually, you chose weather to be male or female, but many high-level players exploit the fact that the female model is slightly smaller and harder to hit than the male counterpart.
Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great game series such as Quake. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
I never cared for the single player Quake II game, but I lost many hours on Multiplayer. Who else remembers the map with the towers that you could camp the elevators on, or the map with the huge gate off to the side, and my favorite one was the map with the huge circle stair case and the rocket launcher on the ledge. I should reinstall and look for that mod that gave you the wall mounted explosives that had the white nukes that took out 1/3 of the map.
Hmmm I guess the boss at the end of this chapter was like - "Verily, dare I say, do I not comprehend the nature of the phenomenon that we all have apparently just hereby perceived. Comrades?"
I don't like the highres textures. I'll always be a sucker for playing the games how they were meant to be played. It's not like Quake II or Jedi Knight looked bad anyways. And the Jedi Academy Dark Forces mod is the most retarded thing i've ever seen. Just leave em' games alone ¬_¬
-they didn't spawn the ammo, they just dropped the boxes they were carrying...
from the q2dq2 FAQ:
"id intended that this should trap us in the computer room ... Instead we drop several ammo boxes underneath this door, to keep it open ... This normally means sacrificing some of the ammo boxes ... but in this run we got particularly lucky ... we picked up the ammo we'd dropped as we went back under the door. "
@TomGrus I retract my comment. Thought the ammo indicator stayed at 100, and then increased when picked up. Reading dark numbers at 3am = I fail. My apologies.
The "improved" engine you used removed all the original lightmaps. All that's left are some sparse dynamic lights, everything else that isn't lit is flat and unshaded. Looks way worse IMO. I'd MUCH prefer the original engine.
"...lasers do their own collision detection, and they only check to see if anything has touched them ten times a second. If the player is entirely on one side of the lasers the one time they check, and then moves fast enough that they are entirely on the other side of them by the time the next check occurs, the lasers never notice the player crossing through them in the interval. The bunny-hop gives the necessary speed to cross through in time."
nice video! I never really played quake 2 that much. The only game I spent most of my time playing was quake 1 (quakeworld). Back in the day I had the quake 2 demo but didnt like it that much.. gameplay was too slow compared to quake 1.. at least thats what I thought.
Groobos run was on easy skill(skill 0) and our run was on nightmare skill (skill 3), you cant really compare our runs. His run was good, but only a couple of seconds better than our nightmare run. We started making a run on skill 0 and got half way through, 10-20 seconds faster than groobo, but since we didn't think the improvement was big enough we stopped producing demos.
I'm the player in these demos named as Fredrik. I'm also in the Quake1 done quicker movies. This is old school original Q2.
@snygfred Quake II doesn't have a nightmare skill. If you were really one of the runners, you'd know that off the top of your head. And the description of groobo's run over on SDA clearly says "best time, hard mode." You may be thinking of Collin Moore's run, which was taken down from the site two years ago. That was the only run of that game on easy mode.
It does have nightmare mode, but its only available in the manual PC console. Type skill 3 in console and you get nightmare, read the description of our run. I remember now when you mention it that it was a big debate if should choose the hardest skill possbile by in gamesettings(hard= skill 2) or skill3 manual. Yes perhaps Groobos run was on hard skill, however he was a big part on our unfinished skill 0 (easy) run.
Quake2 has nightmare skill through its manual console. Read the description of the demo, on the qdq-site. If you choose manually you only have skill 0, 1 and 2 (easy, medium and hard), however from the console you can choose skill 3 (nightmare). I remember now that you mention it that it was a big debate of what we should choose, nightmare (by manual selection) or nightmare ( available for the hardcore players).
Ugh, firefox acts on its own. Hope I manage to keep this answer. Anyway, you can play nightmare skill in quake2, but you have to type skill 3 in the manual console. In the menus you can only choose hard skill (skill 2). Groobos run also had unrestricted bunnyhopping. Hope that clarifies...
Dude, I have to say, this was an impressive set of speedrun videos. You've really gone to town on this one. I was pretty stunned whilst watching these videos.
Excellent work! And I will certainly take "more watchable" over "a few seconds faster" any day. Thanks!

wait a sec.... you know how to double jump but you aren't circle jumping to move faster?
I could see places where you wouldn't want to due to possibly bumping into stuff, but still... could improve your time by ALOT.
