zx10r 08 has the highest peak in 1000cc class but it has quite poor torque at low and mid RPM. That's why R1 is pulling away. BTW zx10r 06-07 is better in acceleration than 08 because of beeing stronger in mid RPM.
1000cc sportbikes are so evenly matched now a days it really depends on the rider. The stats show the 2008 ZX10 is a brutally powerful bike, but that doesn't mean nothin if put a guy thats scared of it, on it! I rode one and WOT with all my weight on the front end I was floating the front wheel about a foot off the ground through 3 gears. I weigh 190lbs. Looks to me that the guy on the R1 would win riding his R1 or the ZX10.
Yeah I have an 09 10r and raced an a geared 05 r1 with me having 60 extra lbs and I he still wasnt over an arm lenths away, he actually would pull me on the top end though, but just by a foot or so, not a whole lot. + I only have 1200 mi on mine so I still consider it not broken in.
r1's are NOT slow. The 08 zx10 is SUPPOSED to be the fastest accelerating motorcycle EVER made once at speed (according to the mags). However, I have a modded zx14, and the only bike to ever legitimately out accelerate my bike is an equally equipped 07 R1. Yes, that is a hard pill to swallow, but often times, it comes down to which bike gets the jump. You can check out my vids to see my bike.
actually the 09 R1's engines power delivery is far less aggressive then the previous years 04-08, in AMA the 09 R1 was getting walked on by the other liter bikes cause it is down on power from 08

I have the 08 zx10r and yes the front tire comes up on 1st gear when you push it to redline and it is obviuos that the rider in this video its not pushing the bike to its limits.
its pretty obviuos that the zx10 aint WFO. The bike doesnt even lift the front tire once not even in first gear. I have owned the 04 and 06 zx10 and know first hand there is no way that front tire wouldnt be at least hovering of the ground in first and second,if not more.
If the wheel was in the air he would be slower. You ever try lifting up a bike's front tire? Pretty heavy right? How much horsepower you think you loose when the wheel goes up?
