A little technical info: When a woman sings in the sopranoregister, she also uses her falsetto vocal cords, not the entire cords. In falsetto, or the voix de tete, (PJ's speciality) both men and women have the same fysical characteritics. Because he is a man, his throat is bigger than a woman's, and so is the entire set of vocal cords and the muscles and tissue they rest in.
So when PJ sings higher than a woman, that is amazing. You may consider it "pop", but I find nothing wrong about "pop".
@carolineleiden Actually, you are wrong. Women have longer vocal cords as they sing with their whole length, and countertenors only use part of them. Come on! This is a superficial, sweet pop version of this great aria. Have you ever seen the film Farinelli, il Castrato? Though I couldn't absolutely accept that artificial computer created voice composed of Ragin's and Godlewska's high notes it's amazing! Also, awful PJ's Italian! The best version I've ever heard is Daniel Taylor's!THAT is Great !
@serenaluce Awful italian? Strange, I'm italian and I don't find anything strange in his diction. Anyway, I love Jaroussky's timbre, even if often I'm disappointed by his technique.
@3F93 Yes,awful Italian! And it's really strange when it's APPEALING native speakers find a foreigner's accent very beautiful, pleasant, even often don't WANT to hear any accent at all! But it's all in the HEAD! A friend of mine as he doesn't like a much better natural male soprano Radu Marian, thought we are both Russian native speakers finds his Russian pronounciation not very good and not understandable while I hear PERFECT pronounciation!Anyway, if in film Farinelli sang like PJ it'd be AWFUL!
This reminds me of the most beautiful aria, Porpora's Alto Giove, which Jaroussky also sings magnificently.

What happened at 2:28 & 6:52???!!! It's like something out of a Celine Dion song. I love PJ, but sometimes...

@carolineleiden women sing in falsetto? What we do is using chest register, but never falsetto.

I love Andreas Scholl as well. And this version as well, which is higher. But both show emotion, both work for me.
Every singer sings awful in a foreign language. Ever heard a german singing latin mass?
And of course speach and voice often do not agree with eachother. Certain sounds I cannot make with a certain vowel. (Very frustrating)
For all us non italians, we do not hear the difference anyway. You wouldn't either if he sang in dutch, which is my first language, but I would.

He actually sings in the c7 and above register (to f!) here. No normal countertenor manages that. That is the sopranoregister. Amazing.
I sang it along yesterday, and I kept up, but no wonder I woke up a mute today...and I am a woman, with shorter vocal cords.

La voz de Jaroussky es perturbadora. Es el contratenor que más me hace volar hacia el mundo imaginado de los castratis.
