  • The problem with some contractions is that the spelling is so diferent of the complete form, like this exemple. I like so much to listen a slow and well speaking English like yours. After all, that is the one I can listen and take the words... hahahha... Thank You!!!

  • very nice

  • Oooh...Nice!

I have always though that contractions were informal...õ-o

    Thanks for the information! =D

  • I really like you video.

  • You forgot to tell them something.

She cannot use GONNA all the time especially when she's wrtting in english.

She has to write it as Going to. But since this video is about pronouncations it's okay. Just don't get stuck with it when you're writting lets say a letter or for the teenagers if they're having a writing test.

What you tell them is very helpful but they might get stuck with it all the time.

  • its funny :))) thnx

  • you are very welcome!

  • thanks for your information

  • you are welcome!

  • thank you for this lesson

  • Yea this is great for natural english speaking, but if you do this in your writing you're so gonna get nuked. (I mean formal pieces of writing :p)

  • That goes without saying! :)

  • thanks for your lesson

  • thank you sir for this lesson.i was confused about this but now i got it.thanks a lot again

  • Hello thanks for uploaded this video, I think they are many of this examples could you tell us some of them.

    Going to go = Gonna

    Want to= Wanna.

    ......

  • stay tuned for a Peppy Pronunciation video series!!!!!!

  • dude you are Cooooool , but can i asked you for a favor . please put many example of these grammars , anyway you're the best .

  • Most of the videos have subtitles after Peppy 7. Peppy 27 will be released as two versions: with and without subtitles. :)

  • Hi tnks for ur videos, they r really good.. by otherway i would like to know why you say i gotta go.. (got to go) and dont say i get to go.. i mean got is in past isnt is?

  • I'm not sure about Americans, but in New Zealand we are more likely to say "I've gotta go". The contraction of "I" and "have" explains why "got" is in its past participle form. You can't say "I have get", you must say "I have got". This usage of "have" or "have got" means "must" or "need to". So I could equally say "I must go" or "I need to go", though these sound a bit formal. I hope that helps.

  • Hi Heba! In the case of using contractions at work, it really depends on the company you are working for. Some companies have a more informal environment while others are definately more formal. So you need to pay attention to how your boss and supervisor use English so that you can ' follow suit' . I hope this helps. Thanks for your question !

  • Hi, mr steeve i like always using slang language while i'm writhing or speaking with my friends ,as u said it is more easier when we use them, but what about using them while we are talking to our managers or making presentation is it acceptable way to do this or not ??

    Thx,4 ur GR8 efforts

  • Good tips! Congrats on passing the TOEFL!

  • Pronunciation = TV Series + Singing-a-long to music...

    Trust me... it works...

Love the channel, by the way...

  • Your answer is very useful. I think that the best way to practice with contractions and other "natural" English forms is by listening a lot to native speakers (directly on by listening to music, watching movies in English including the subtitles...youtube is also a good source!!!), and by any other interactive way you could possible imagine. Using several information channels will help your brain to recognise and incorporate speach patterns that will eventually become natural to you. Have fun.

  • Great!

  • I'm gonna subscribe to ya! :D

  • Ok, you are on the right path. But please keep in mind that Americans like to make a point of the uniqueness of their language by using contractions and idioms related to baseball even in business settings. Please check out my Business English video 2 to see what i am talking about.........

  • I know what you're talking about, and you are completely right.

I just wanted to point out the fact that those contractions are slang and SHOULDN'T be used on a laboral envoirment.

and about idioms, yes, I myself are having trouble with them, I mean, not that I don't understand them, It's just that there are TOO many haha :P

  • You need to know both and be flexible with using and not using contractions. If not, you will start to sound too mechanical. That is especially true for American business English.

  • I know that it might help with confidence when speaking, and to get used to a daily way of speaking, of course, we all talk in the most practical way.

But my idea of American business English is to be as polite as possible, but well, I can imagine that in the stock market they don't care much about contractions or any of those things xD

  • There's just one thing in that video, that was wrong to my understanding.

NOONE from a serious company will ever use slang language such as "gonna" or "gotta".

I'm not trying to neglect you. Don't get me wrong. I don't know which type of students you are aiming.

However, what I've been taught is always to be as polite as I can. And not to use slang, let alone using it before managers, or any important person.

    Overall, good job.

    Keep up with it :)

  • i'll be around from time to time...just discovered you a while ago...thanks by the way..

  • Hey Ansaribhutia,

Indeed vowel sounds, in particular short and long vowel sounds not to mention diphthongs which turn into schwas are addressed in some of my later Peppy videos. This video deals with contractions which are quite common in many ESL pronunciation books.

    Hope this helps!

    Steve
