@minnoskedicik boy ,yatagan ,karakulak, akkulak and many other kinives/swords are so come on for you as much come on for us dont forget that even if we dont like one to each other we use to live together long time ago for quiet long time too.
And before to clime anything about the shape of yatagan better see how its look SIKA -MAHAIRA much more older knive/sword then "your" yatagan.
@minnoskedicik I know about the town and we have fine yatagan specimens in Bulgaria too,the info in wikipedia is nonsense the yatagans are too long for knives, and these folding ''yatagan'' knives doesn't correspond with the fixed blade karakulaks. They look like most of the mediterranean folding knives, compare them with Laguiole for example. You are just trying to prove that there is a turkish seed in everything on the wide world!
@minnoskedicik Ha ha ha you are sending me a pictures of a folding knife native to the Basque Country region in Northern France and called yatagan knife. What is the connection with Turkey except the name? And remember that Turkic is not equal to Turkish!
@minnoskedicik Ha ha the Yatagan is not a knife my friend!Do not forget the fact that many regions in Turkey were once predominantly Bulgarian (the European part),but you forced the native Bulgarians to emigrate. The knives in the clip are not made by Turkish craftsmen, because even in the Ottoman Empire,Bulgarian craftsmen made the weapons for the imperial army in Sliven,Samokov and Gabrovo!Long live Turkey, from Vancouver to Vladivostok, soon the star and crescent flag will be waving on the Moon!
@minnoskedicik What a coincidence,I'm from the Black Sea region too, just the opposite shore ha ha!I will be very glad to see these knives,if you can, upload a clip please! How are they called?Probably you are talking about the Sürmene knives and they are quite different from the Karakulaks, with distinctive Caucasus influence! When we are talking about uniquely turkish things,I even doubt about the turkish origin of Mustafa Kemal ha ha!Regards
браво убава колекција. Јас на татко ми му изгубив еден нож кога бев дете тој беше на прадедо ми од 1892. Многу ми е жал. Беше кама со 2 оштрици околу 30 см. долг.
@NazliCanBeyza It's not a sword my friend ha ha!If it's turkish please tell me where exactly in Turkey this knife pattern is common?Tell me please only one name of turkish knife maker that forges knives like this!We are using many turkish words in our language, legacy from the Ottoman Yoke!
the name comes from edge of the hilt,'karakulak means black ear , 0:50 u can see the kara kulak, that knife is bulgarian not turk.just hilt looks like turkish type.
The steel is 440C,buffalo horn, cow bone, ruscus root wood and walnut wood are used.Bronze and brass for incrustations. These knives are practically without a guard so they are not for puncturing but for slashing and cutting. The end of the handle with the ears ensures tight grip. When the knives are in pairs, the smaller one is used for wood carving!
I apologise for the intrusion on your conversation with icychap , but I was wondering about the 'ears' as well, and came up with the thought that if one folded one's thumb over the top, they would secure the thumb there, and an enhanced fighting pose / edge use would be possible eh. They are Beautiful knives, I thought the companion small blade was for skinning of animals etc ? I believe the Kukri (Gurkha Blade has them, for that purpose ? )
Yeah, you have right, this handle ensures tight grip in different positions. The second knife was used not only for wood carving ,but for other things too:skinning, slicing the pieces of meat ,cheese, bread and vegetables when eating, using it for a multipurpose tool, for animal slaughter and others.
Thanks for the reply, appreciated eh, I wonder why the ears have not been picked up by other knife mfg's? To me it makes sense to have this, on some designs of knife? I think knives that are attributed to a Countries heritage or Culture / Working background are particularly nice, I have favourite saved such from Peru.
Yes, agreed! That gives a completely new dimension to explore in the handle and scales department eh! I would not be surprised at all if it was taken up, because lot's of shapes, forms and angles ( with regard to blades etc ) used now, were in fact thought of long, long ago in History somewhere.!

Knifes are very beautiful and useful.
Ножовете са много красиви и удобни за употреба. Според мен един такъв нож може да служи на овчаря за всичко. Ще съм горд да имам такъв някога
