  • Oh man goosebumps every time

  • I will never forgive AMPAS for NOT giving Ned Beatty an Oscar for this one scene!

Change merely one single timing or intonation or word in this performance and it will be the worse for it.

  • @robertrstevens Best movie monologue ever. He should have got an Oscar.

  • Ron Paul media blackout anyone? RON PAUL IN 2012!

  • I am determined to get people to comment on this post

  • Oh My Gosh. That was frikkin' brilliant. Every adult should at least see this clip of the film. Maybe one of the truest things said in a modern film. Wow.

  • when our planet dies, none of this will matter.

  • @redbob70 What should we do in the meantime?

  • Chilling and brilliant.

  • Jensen is God.

  • Down with corporatism.

  • Obama and his counterparts delight in the slaughter of Afghan children precisely because it expands the reach of the US dollar. They are no different than Jensen, Hackett and Diane. For that matter, all of you cozy liberals - on the left or the right, as WyldeMax proves himself to be - are a part of precisely this dynamic. Its easy to preach about how great private corporations like Cargill, Xe, EXxon and the like are when you enjoy a privileged position. Try preaching your tripe in Iraq.

  • @ndurose Could it be, however, that Obama wants to weaken the US in every way possible? I mean, he's undermined our presence and influence in NATO, he's diminished our nuclear deterrence there, he's sided with our enemies in the Middle East rather than our ally, Israel, which has represented peace, tolerance and prosperity. I mean, get away from the Mob mentality, why don'tcha?

  • @WyldeMax Just a thought, but society's typical behaviour of referring to the actions of governments of the countries into which we were born as being "our"s has big psychological implications. I wonder what started people to call our locally controlling Governments/military/corporations "us" (media..?). Subconsciously, this makes us far less inclined to really attack them ("us") and make change, and creates a sense of patriotism(!) in support of their actions as they are part of our identity

  • @lolzkaful That's true, I'll admit.

We think, always, they're on OUR side (don't mean to shout with caps). But, in truth, they're on THEIR side. whatever that might be. But, we do belong to this country. My opinion is that we, as citizens, have been lax in our job as citizens. That's because we're not family-centric as we once were, and that's by design. We seek entitlements when we should seek responsibilities.

  • But one man's greed is another's self-interest, and usually the ones who complain about one are acting on behalf of the other, invariably committing the same vice they accuse others of being. I would rather be ruled by the greedy rather than the benevolent, because the greed can and often is satiated. Benevolent rulers justify their tyranny with the belief in their own virtue, not on the results of what they do.

  • Folks, don't read too much into this scene. You have to put it into context. Jensen's evangel is not the point of this scene. The point of this scene is that Jensen realizes, in cold, hard, reality, how powerful Beale is. He single-handedly killed a $2 Billion business deal. Now he's taking control of Beale. He wants Beale to preach the Gospel according to Arthur Jensen, and that's why he ignores the protests of Hackett and others in spite of the low ratings...cont.

  • @WyldeMax cont... The truly greedy ones, if you pay attention, are the corporate network types like Hackett and Diane, who see Beale as a product, not as a human being. They pinned their careers to Howard Beale and his antics, and when the ratings began to plummet, and Mr. Jensen refusing to budge on canceling Howard, they murdered him.

  • How disgusting reality is. A materialistic world consumed by greed. *shivers*

  • @ListlessCraving Not Greed. Self-interest. Whenever I hear someone say someone is greedy, the translation of it 90% of the time is that "they should be spending their money on me, not thee."

  • @WyldeMax greed is never justifiable, no matter how hard you try..

  • @jeffersonian101

Greed doesn't work. Why? Because greed has no limits. Things without limits do NOT work. In order to work one has got to know ones limitations, and the greedy don't.

If the old myth about jews being greedy by nature is true, then perhaps it's no wonder the deep hatred of them culminated with Hitler and the nazis wanting to exterminate them off the world.

Btw, Hitler's own greed about creating more living space in the East for his master race was what doomed his Third Reich.

  • Jensen calls the board room Valhalla and if your look in the upper corner of the room one minute in you will see a bust of Richard Wagner.

  • This was one of my many favorite scenes in this film. "Network" is one of my favorite films of all time and it's a really great film as well. Robert Duvall and William Holden are the greatest actors ever and they're also my favorite actors as well. Thanks for posting these scenes.

  • FEAR,RUN

  • Timeless!

  • Most people have no ideia of how ACCURATE this portrayal is. If this CEO was a real person, he would be a member of one of the MANY round table groups that came out of the Milner Group and the JP Morgan Council on Foreign Relations.

The world is their business plan, but they're also ideologues -- in the view that is portrayed here. It's monopoly capitalism blended in with socialistic management of the masses. In other words, fascism, globalistic fascism.

  • @LibertyTruthJustice I thought of JP Morgan when I watched this scene as well. Had to play it back a few times - looks like the room the Federal Reserve was started in at Jekyll Island, doesn't it? GREAT POST.

  • @foringjar612 But energy is now owned by corporations. It is traded as stocks and shares in the marketplace. The world is owned.

  • @spookyruthy pretty much. can't wait for air to be canned like in spaceballs

  • 3:11-3:22 that was sampled in a song from a group called, Snog. The song was called "Corporate Slave". Good song

  • Network is a great film because it shows both sides of the arguement. As anti big business as I can be sometimes, I have to agree with this man. Commerce is a anastic pathway to world peace. We can pacify nearly every nation hostile towards us simply by building a Mcdonalds and Starbucks there.

  • karl rove and all the ceo's in the u.s. throw

in tons of greed and there it is.... our capitalism. be nice to live in parts of europe, where at least their governments attempt to keep their capitalism from harming or killing their people.

neat little sub-text to capitalism is the lobbyist...where he with the most money wins. that would exclude you and me.

so, we are screwed, now and for eternity.

  • Did Karl Rove write this speech?
