  • Beautiful violin..!

  • wel al wat oud, maar vele jonge violisten kunnen er nog wat van leren,!

  • Is this the Philadelphia Orchestra?

  • isaac stern!!! forever the most passionate player. forever the absolute best!

  • @Tarcila62078 most definitely!

  • a little too fast...

  • This ouverture is endless ...

  • i dont like his sound.... he is very rough, scratchy!!! He is not Isaac we loved

  • Who is the conductor? Looks like Jukka Pekka Saraste, but I could be wrong.

  • The most difficult concerto, Beethoven the other.

    Thanks for posting.

I lovely live legacy of our greatest fiddler.

  • Beautiful mr. Stern. You make me cry!

  • Although it is nice, it's pretty clear Stern was past his prime at this point. It lacks the precision and clarity of his earlier performances and of Szeryng's and Heifetz's renditions, understandably.

  • Try listening to his recording with

Ormandy in the 60's. That will blow everything else away...Perlmann, Milstein, not even close!!

  • moman is so right. stern with ormandy...amazing. after hearing that recording, it made me wonder at the garbage performances of everyone else i've listened to in the past.

  • I thought it was just me -- that stern / ormandy recording sounds SO good. I cannot listen to any other.

  • I would rank the Brahms together with the Beethoven but as for thematic identity, I complete disagree. The themes in the Brahms are some of the most beautiful and unique in violin literature. I would say the 1st movement is the highlight, while the Allegro Giocoso sounds like your common everyday joyful dance-like pieces such as the 3rd movement of Bruch 1st.

  • unique sound

  • This is nice, Too bad he messes up at 6:48 though.

  • na man he jus improvised

  • I thought I was the only one who preferred the Szerying recording. It blew me away. But Stern is an icon. At least he waited til he was old to play out of tune, unlike Perlman.

  • aw cut perlman a break, he's a really busy guy, what with playing for movies and teaching and running a summer program, not to mention practicing for performances!

  • @chicklet3746 pearlman does not run a summer program. he rolls one. :D ok that's just mean. sowie!

  • @coolsnak3 bad sh.t, there. Can YOU play fiddle, idiot? Is your (left) hand capable of doing what Perlman can do?.From a Vietnam Veteran and former student of Boris Schwarz

  • magnifico....hace tiempo lo estaba buscando

  • This concerto give me shivers...

The biggest violinist of all time. Maestro de maestros, RIP Stern.

  • Yes, Isaac is past his prime, but look at

his masterful demeanor and look at his

attack. He still had the heart of a young

lion, though the teeth may have become a little dull over time. He was a true master, one

of the last of his era of great violinists.

  • @robotnik77 How is a master ever PAST his prime?? He only knew even MORE than his "prime", as you put it.

Someone need not be faster, louder, sharper to be great.

Just look at movies, what wins Oscars? The faster louder sharper films? Or the quieter well and subtly played ones?

  • cool:D

  • Yes, this is past Stern's prime--look for his 27 year earlier recording with Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra--yes!

  • maravilloso, gracias

  • this really isn't that good. sorry to be offensive, but szeryng's is a ton better. i'm sure he could play it better when he was young, but its just not good.

  • Perhaps Stern is not in his prime but each and every note is "Vécu" which comes with age, musically it is extraordinary and inspired up the the highest level. Szeryng had and always had a tendency to be academic with some lack of inspiration. I much rather have a Stern who put everything note as if they are a recreation than perhaps a more perfect technical version.

  • I prefer the sound of Szeryng for this piece as well

  • he plays the concert well, to have the age hi has, but i agree with you...sometimes it´s out of tune, and the sound its not clear all times.

I don´t want ot offend anyone, it´s only my opinion.

  • just fantastic!!!!! the best version?? i think so.

  • conductor looks like krystian zimerman lol

  • Maestro de Maestros,,,,,,,,,

  • can someone post kyung wha chung playing this piece?

  • Is the conductor Sarastro?

  • It´s the young Jukka-Pekka Saraste!

  • Thanks!!!

  • dude, thanks so much for posting this! I'm really glad you did! Thanks!

  • Thanks for posting this video of an older Stern playing one of the best violin concerto's.
