how do you get the keyboard to play real time with the program...mine is a little slow

@whayes44 Sounds like you might be having latency issues. It takes time for the computer to translate that midi info into a note on the computer and send it out of the speakers. A latency test can be done within the Ableton software. 4 starters, to help with the latency issues try ASIO4all drivers to help if you're using Windows. I'm a bit new to this, but from what I know, an audio interface can greatly improve the speed at which your cpu can process that audio info and bring your latency down.

so you must be compensating for the latency when you push the keys, even if you did a final touch up, hearing you play right now, thats damn good on time. I use a m audio sono 88, a cheaper keyboard... but the latency with ableton is bad,when using the piano for triggering .... recording it through cool edit pro its pretty much on time. Tho i wish i made a living off my music.

It's just so hard to decide/learn about what programmes to use, how to use it, what things to invest in etc. Basically I'd like to know a few things if you don't mind, namely: 1. Do you really need more than one set of music production software or could you just for example use ableton alone? 2. Once you have it, to what other equipment helps you take your stuff to another level? Thanks
