Noticing that you work with the burner tip red hot. How does this affect the life of your heat source and handpiece? Can you share tips for working this hot AND prolonging the life of your tools? Thanks, beautiful work!
I'm a cordwainer (shoemaker) by trade, naturally I have a love for things that are handmade. I love even more things that are handmade that incorporate art ... functional art for every day enjoyment and use. I've watch most of David's videos, he's seems like a very cool guy, and certainly deserving of a frame drum as beautiful as that. I visited the website (still looking at photos-WOW), Julia Surba's work is brilliantly amazing. A long life and may she pyrograph forever. Thank you!
Admire the work you do together...so harmonious. Wonderful to watch the art unfold while enjoying beautiful music and to hear the finished product by a great player! Thank you for sharing!!
I'd like to decorate a wooden artifact with pyrography, but all the videos I see on youtube are for that electric hot tip thing.
How did it use to be done in the past? A hot nail kept in the fire? What's the best tool to use or the best way to grip the nail without getting burned etc?
the most common way was any piece of metal - wth the end shaped how they wanted - heated in coals. most use the electronic tools however as they are easier. cleaner and safer. xD - if you do wish to use authentic tools - then use some metal working or lead working gloves or cloth to wrap around the metal
Look on ebay, there are a lot of offers there. The prices are different, for a "Brennpeter mini" (for beginners) around 50,- Euro, for royal around 350,- Euro. There are also Jumior and Master-models, look what do you want.
and dont forget the music..its also a great masterpiece :)

I learned a lot in those few minutes, even with my sound turned off!

Inspiring work! You might want to consider a better vacuum to suck the smoke away.
