  • If we must have a roundabout, make it a bigger diameter. Keep it two lanes and ideally farther, as much as possible, from the parkway intersection. There should also be another Provo and/or Orem interchange potentially both north and south of the parkway, as well as widened secondary streets such as 1200 West/College Dr with additional lanes in key areas.

  • @lyleralph84 improvements to the roundabout and College Drive would be handled by UVU and Orem City. Our representative in the area did tell me that there has been talk about studying an interchange at 400 South in Orem.

  • How does this address the convoluted roundabout which frequently backs up into & from the intersection. I have to drive through this roundabout daily & it's terrible. I cannot even begin to count how many times people have almost hit me. Also, anyone notice the animated cars in the roundabout getting blatantly cut off by those failing to yield? Improvements to the parkway are necessary but that's not the only problem.

  • @lyleralph84 as part of the work being done on University Parkway, Orem City has asked us to reroute 1200 South directly onto College Drive east of the roundabout instead of where is joins Sandhill Road currently. This will reduce the backing problems.

  • This is all so ridiculous! Lights everywhere. Driving on the wrong side of the road. I can't believe someone bought into this confusion at a meeting!

  • I love how the round-about in this video is so accurate to the way it really is. So sad that people in this country can't figure out a two lane round-about.

  • I like the CFI intersections. I use them every day and it's a lot more convenient.

  • Very informative. I was always curious about this. Too bad I moved away before it was implemented. I'm REALLY liking the tunnel from UVU to Wal-Mart. I didn't like walking across University Parkway and felt like I was going to get hit. Kudos to the new layout.

  • this is really going to suck!!!! It doesnt even make sense when this guy explains it to me. im getting full coverage on my car... i know someone from california is going to plow into me

  • @maxpaintballer16 several CFI intersections have already been implemented in other parts of the state and they do seem strange the first time you drive through them but drivers have adjusted. Also, by following the signs and striping even people who are unfamiliar with a CFI are able to figure it out.

  • I CANT WaIT FOR THIS TO BE DONE! I HATE GOING OVER THERE

  • You people are crazy! Dark rainy nights with headlights and reflections everywhere are going to lead to accidents!

  • @butlercn the new configuration will require drivers to pay attention but we will have pleanty of signs and striping to help.

  • @butlercn I like the design, but I'm with you. Blacktop is NOT BLACK anymore it's now light gray or white even without snow and they're STILL USING WHITE STRIPES. Time for something that shows up in the rain, snow, etc at night. Many safety vests are now green. Are we ready for green stripes?

  • I'm pretty sure they got Scott Carrier to do the voiceover for this :) They forgot to mention that once you enter the double laned traffic circle in front of the school you'll be driving in circles for minutes if you accidentally choose the wrong lane and need to get over!

Unlike the senior citizens in this thread who are afraid of all change, I think this is a pretty great idea. Just fixing the southbound I-15 deathramp will be a pleasant change. Also, UtahDot is imitating HAL. Nice!

  • Is it similar to the intersection at Bangerter and 5300 south?

  • I like this idea, as an avid roadgeeker, I support this

  • I don't even know why I care so much. I moved out of Utah a few years ago. But one thing I know is that I've never seen anything like this. There's definitely nothing like it in the entire Los Angeles area where traffic is infamous. I use to live right next to this intersection and drove through it multiple times a day without thinking there was a problem. If it aint broke, don't fix it. Maybe just build the pedestrian tunnels.

  • NOTHING MUST EVER CHANGE.

  • So cars traveling straight through the intersection will have vehicles traveling the opposite direction on both sides of them? And instead of what everybody learns in Drivers Ed about cars turning left yielding to cars turning right, it will be the opposite? This will end up costing more in the long run, when after a few deaths, UDOT will decide to re-do it once again.

  • @rjbailor78 near the intersection vehicles traveling straight will have cars on both sides for a short distance but there will be raised medians to keep the directions seperate. As for turns yeilding it will work the same as any intersection. Left turning vehciles will be stopped until they recieve a green light at which time right turning cars will have a red light. There are several continuous flow intersections (CFIs) already in operation in SL Co and they are working well.

  • @rjbailor78 Having read studies about these Continuous Flow Intersections, I'm a firm believer in what UDOT is doing here. In those areas where CFIs have been implemented, they have been shown to be safer, faster, and capable of handling much larger loads than traditional intersections. And, while it sounds convoluted when explained the way they did in this video, the driver-level view is actually quite simple and intuitive.

  • These videos are sooo funny - this crappy smooth Jazz loop in the background and then the "therapist" voiceover that using it's calm subdued tones tries to hypnotize me into believing that something which is obviously insane and complicated is "really quite simple".

you should just say "Hey we think it's crazy too!!!!" and then play some heavy metal.

  • @joshcarr6 navigating the new intersection and interchange will certainly be different but the intent of the animation is to help educate people on what to expect. There will also be pleanty of signs to help motorists once construciton is complete.

  • @UtahDOT #socialmediaFAIL your too stuffy and formal in the tone of the videos and your responses. I know a computer isn't cranking out these videos or these responses but it sure feels like one.

somewhere in your organization there must be a real human who is interested in having real conversations with other real humans

Get permission from the stuffy old guy in the suit with brass buttons to allow you to be warm and conversational - I promise it will improve your results :)

  • @joshcarr6 I'm sorry you feel that way. I am an actual human and do my best to answer questions and post replies in a professional manner.

  • So let me get this straight. You take one of the busiest intersections in the state, add two more signals to it and then call it "continuous flow"?

  • @rwknight1 Continuous flow intersections are designed to reduce congestion and delays at intersections that have a high volume of left-turns. By separating left turns from the rest of the intersection, more cars can move through the intersection more quickly, even with the extra stop light. When the left-turning vehicles are separated from the rest of the traffic, drivers turning left and drivers going straight can all pass through the intersection at the same time.

  • Thank you for the signal for traffic turning right needing to cross to UVU. A video from the driver's perspective like the Provo Center Street video might help. The aerial isn't as lifelike.

  • @GreenwoodKL we do not have additional animations planned for this area however we have an interactive tool that may also help demonstrate how the intersection and interchange will work. udot.utah.gov/i15core/flash/interchange_diagrams/universityparkway/

  • stupidest thing I've ever seen.

  • @chelseaemeline I'm sorry you do not like the new design. We feel that it will improve traffic flow through the area while also providing safe access to UVU.

  • how soon can we plan on seeing the new format in action (construction complete)?

  • @kary1982v6 the University Parkway interchange and CFI will be completed in December 2012 along with the rest of the project.
