i know that for feel the optimal condition of this movie we need to see it in IMAX 3D, but in a standard 3D theater (2K projector) i just don't feel the 3D stereoscopic amazing.
I consider that this movie must work both in 2D and 3D, the consistant thing is the story...

I understand the Na'vi are a light blue color, however I can't understand how people say that it is "cartooney." I'd have to use more than two hands to count how many times i saw female Na'vi nipple or buttcrack. It was pretty much like watching naked people on the National Geographic channel.
It looks like CG because you know there's NO way you will ever show those environments or characters without CG, so your automatically realizes it's CG, it doesn't mean it's not good.

I saw the 15 min preview and I was not impressed. To much CGI going on in that jungle. It look like a video game.The only part that was watchable was the scene when he wakes up in the hospital and interacts with a real environment. Everything else I could care less about. Saw the teaser trailer that came out a few months ago. Cool and interesting.You couldn't tell what the hell Avatar was about but that is the point of a true teaser. NOW comes the international teaser trailer which you do get to see what is in the James Cameron film. It started off fascinating then the blue characters or creatures came in and I just did not know what to make of it. I guess I was hoping for a 2001 Space Odyssey kind of film bring me to some place I've never been before in film.

Well dude, I saw the trailer and I will say based on that, your review was 100% on the mark. Feel redeemed, the CGI is NOT evolutionary in the least, it does look like a cartoon in many of it. I'm sure overall it will blow you away, but it is NOT life changing. I defended you here the first time and glad I did. I know two people who went and saw it. Both said the same thing. And after seeing the pic of Jake and the Avatar that was released recently, I would agree with them.

CGI has become very impressive over the years. I don't hate CGI, but I do feel that it is over-used in films - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, ect. I think Avatar will be great.

It looks like CG because you know there's NO way you will ever show those environments or characters without CG, so your automatically realizes it's CG, it doesn't mean it's not good.

I'm I the only one who thought the trailer looks like a fucking video game? Seriously it was so disappointing. Not only was it not Revolutionary it was not even close Evolutionary. Spielberg and Peter Jackson kept on hyping the movie saying it's the best CGI they saw in there life and it will set the bar for the next 10 years. James Cameron even said it will be the next Star Wars or Matrix. BULLSHIT!!! It looks just like every CGI technology they have now. Talk about a big let down. =(

Man I hope you saw the trailer for this movie on a hi-def display , hopefully at the theaters. I doubt you did tho, given your response. If you are a "Matrix4Ever" fan than you should be able to distinguish the advancement in technologies used to create this film. Check it out in hi-def and then do your review friend. I saw the 15 min preview and I was not impressed. To much CGI going on in that jungle. It look like a video game.The only part that was watchable was the scene when he wakes up in the hospital and interacts with a real environment. Everything else I could care less about. This movie isn't anywhere near what the first Matrix did. I'm passing on this shit.

Saw the teaser trailer that came out a few months ago. Cool and interesting.You couldn't tell what the hell Avatar was about but that is the point of a true teaser. NOW comes the international teaser trailer which you do get to see what is in the James Cameron film. It started off fascinating then the blue characters or creatures came in and I just did not know what to make of it. I guess I was hoping for a 2001 Space Odyssey kind of film bring me to some place I've never been before in film.

Well dude, I saw the trailer and I will say based on that, your review was 100% on the mark. Feel redeemed, the CGI is NOT evolutionary in the least, it does look like a cartoon in many of it. I'm sure overall it will blow you away, but it is NOT life changing. I defended you here the first time and glad I did. I'm personnally a big Cameron fan, but the man isnt God, it looks good, but we are a loooong way from photo realistic CGI characters. Probably a few decades away from that.

Studios are trying to ride the Avatar wave and Studio executives are asking what do they have in sci fi to contend with this Avatar spectacular. Hollywood pretends to appreciate innovation. (20 years later) Blade Runner case and point. However competition, back stabbing, while congratulating is political, and vintage hollywood. Innovative, creative, original, non sequel orientative films like Cameron's Avatar, are an example of superior workmanship with excellent writing and directing. I may be dumb but Hollywood can't give Lucas and Cameron academy awards for Star Wars and/or Titanic, while fining George for no beginning credits in ESB. Hollywood is known to do that.

The video is to be the first to say the movie isn't that great. In other words it's priority to down grade the film before it changes the entire movie industry. Considering all the snarky, sort of cynical writing Devin has done about Avatar, long before this preview, for him to say it was good is a VERY good thing. Everyone should just remember to respect one man's opinion. Probably 95% of the people who have seen this footage said it was amazing and beyond the uncanny valley, as well as two steps above creatures like Davey Jones. People shouldn't twist these comments from Devin, because some people will always be tough CGI critics, as good as it is.

There's no such thing as ''cartoony'' CGI when a movie is clearly aiming for realism. It's just a flat insult that ignorants or anti-CGI people use to erase all of its merits. I'd say 'A Christmas Carol' and 'Alice In Wonderland' are cartoony but not 'Avatar' nor 'LOTR' nor 'Transformers' nor 'Pirates'.

But thank you for your honest opinion about the Avatar footage. I think I probably would have had the same reaction as you - that no matter how good the cgi is you can still tell that it is cgi because these are aliens and monsters, etc.
