How about you all quit arguing over who started what and who is better than who? Bottom line is, they're both funny, they do their own jokes, and we laugh at them because they're both good at what they do. Positive energy for the win.

Hes telling original jokes that are funny and entertaining. Demitri isnt the only one to use a guitar with one liners, although he probably made it famous. As long as its new material that makes me laugh, i dont care about that other crap.
@earlsc No, Demetri Martin didn't make it famous. Steven Wright made it famous like two decades ago. It's just that everyone who worships Comedy Central doesn't have knowledge of comedy before 1998. And Nick Thune has better delivery than Demetri Martin anyways. Thune seems like he's actually having fun on stage and plays to an audience better. Demetri Martin is way more introverted and after every joke, he stares at the audience as if he's desperately seeking approval. Annoying.
@AveryVideos1 It serves no function in this sketch. He doesn't use it to accompany singing, it isn't used for effect/mood music, so what is the point? Yes, we know he can play, but it makes me wonder who cares in this instance? Wouldn't that routine be just as effective--if not more so (because then it would free him to use his body to demonstrate what he's talking about)--if he were to be free of the guitar? I'm saying this from the perspective of a musician. Maybe I'm thinking too much.
@bandgeekmike The instrument is used with short jokes so there isn't a huge gap of silence between each joke. Comedians who tell stories or long jokes are always talking. There's also the fact that a short joke often has a duality about it that you realize given a few more seconds to think about it. So when Nick Thune says a one liner like: "Life savers only work if you're a diabetic." The music provides extra time for you to think about the entire joke with no explanation required.
