@MrMuddyBleach calm down. a song is a composition of voices but the definition now colloquially includes any piece of music because of angry tools like you
@mackles I know. 4 minutes is an awfully long time to not have someone singing or putting words to music. Especially for someone with a short attention span, or someone overly-conditioned to snappy pop songs with verbal messages.
and that comment only took 4 seconds to read... one hopes the masses can adjust to concentrating for a little while longer without a spoken word, but i somehow, doubt it. *sigh*
@hornsofarabbit oh goddamit... there's nothing fucking wrong with vocals. Isis uses vocals, and they do it to mind blowing effect. Thee Silver Mount Zion uses vocals - brilliant. Not to mention there are a lot of great pop and rock groups that use conventional song structures. This is song is brilliant, fuck anyone who doesn't think so, but the greatness of this song has nothing to do with the fact that it's the winning side of some hypothetical battle between pop and post rock.
@koolami268 the greatness of this song is the emotional and atmospheric qualities, the layered instrumentation and unique character of it.
that wasn't my point. i said that to relate my frustrations about there being with a whole avenue of musical expression being overlooked by 'the multitudes' because of prejudice against a piece of music that has no overriding vocals or lyrical message. I think they're missing out, and I think it's a shame. It's not a 'one-upmanship' thing, I swear.
This is my least favorite song on the album...and it's still better than ninety-nine percent of anything you'd hear on mainstream radio. Best song on this album: Outer Inner Secret. But the whole album and everything by DMST is amazing. Ask me tomorrow and I'll say a different one is my favorite.
@catsgame I agree it's a great song...but Winter Hymn, the rest of it, is, like, a very organic sounding album. I don't know if it was recorded live, I doubt it, but most of it has that feel. "Horns" is the only track on that album that has any really obvious kind of studio, synthy sort of sounds. It's good, don't get me wrong; just sometimes it feels like it blows the mood of the rest of the album a bit. I usually skip it...and that violin thing, track 2 I think...forget what it's called.
@athorist this song actually goes on and continues for the next two songs so technically it's not the "ending" like the video shows. the track actually doesn't end until the last song of the album. a lot of post-rock bands tend to do that.
its wierd. compared to do make everything else just sounds like noise. if u like do make say think than u should look up boards of canada. the album "music has a right to children" is incredible. this reminds me of when i was 14 and i first started smoking pot. brings back so many memories. i miss those days 8[ ...
It's always like bla bla my past memories are so good, bla bla I miss them so much... *cry* when I listen to 'post' rock. Sometimes, I like that mood... Great song btw.
Fucking beast song...I sampled this for a hip hop track, some might say thats a travesty, but 0.54 to 1.52 just needed looping and I had a dope beat...
That was the most beautiful song I've ever heard. I'm going to poke out my eardrums now because any sound I hear from this day forward will just be an annoyance after hearing this. Right after I listen to it a few hundred more times.
Post Rock for all life!

Es increíblemente irónico que este tipo de música transmita más emociones que cualquier otra música cantada.

I love these instrumental bands with lengthy songs. allows me to relax and enjoy the beauty of musical instrument.

I am bored to tears by these instrumental bands with overly-lengthy songs.

The ending's always a bit disappointing, like they didn't know how to finish it properly - but then it is 4 minutes of awesome.
