US chose to support French Colonists instead of Vietnams independence. Then after the France defeated and left Vietnam, the US expected the Vietnamese to trust them and that they were the good guygo figure

so basically if the American supported the independent Vietnam in 1945 (while it's still democratic) and pull it to American side of the cold war - a 30 years war could have been prevented and Indochina wouldn't have turned red as it is today? Great policy making there.

@MykeTyson u missing the point or chosen to ignore the facts, Macnamara telling the vietnamese was it worth 3.4 M dead for your independence? its not the communist who murdered nearly 4 M mostly civillians n destroyed their country with chemicals the Gulf of Tonkin as Macnamara admited was a "mistake"
