OMG!!!!! I can't believe my eyes/ears. I mean, seriously, if Frank Zappa would still be alive and making music, you would be his first choice. Brilliant drumming, loved every single minute of it ;)
I'd love to see the drum audio by itself for this track. If possible you should upload that! Great work. TRX just contacted me too, are they reasonably priced? I love the sound and Soultone isn't cuttin it for me... they haven't held up their end of the deal at all unfortunately!
everything about this from the feel to the technical aspects makes me aspire to greatness. thanks for posting these videos! been a great help with my technique
I cannot get over how absolutely insane this music is! I love how you incorperate the open close hi hat into the beat, and the sound of the song. Whenever someone mentions perfection, this video comes to mind. Cannot get any better. You are a legend Mr Orbin. And will be one of the greats.
@ofirharlev it is a recording session so he has the right to edit the track. it is not a live concert, so every single note has to be played perfectly you know? and this edited version is just perfect.
THIS IS BRILLIANT!!! Are those the limited edition birch/walnut mapex saturn floor toms? What are the heads on these drums, I want this sound... Have the mapex set, clear emperors on toms, coasted ambassador on snare, powerstroke on bass. Anyone used the Black Suede or Black X heads?
i love the versatility with the trx cymbals, they sound great for a huge beating, but on the other hand, when you were doing the softer part in the middle of the song and just hitting them softly, they also sounded great. how did you get onto them
Hey Travis, kickass video sir! I was wondering, is that the 6.5x14 Pearl Reference Brass you're using? If so, how do you like it? I've been thinking about getting one since I hear they're loud as can be but still have a lot of tone.
@NapoleanXV 1) You called them double cymbals so you obviously don't drum (either that or you are just unfathomably stupid). 2) Real musicians can read music, something that you probably cannot do (since we have already established that you either don't drum or are incredibly thick). 3) You couldn't play this if you were stuck on an island for a month with this song on repeat and the drum kit that you pretend to own.
@skiddlecrumms I completely agree with you on 1 and 3. But 2 aggravated me to the point where I had to reply and put: That is a very misleading and stupid thing to say. Neither me, my dad, or most of my friends can read sheet music, yet are all 'real' musicians and are able to play various types of music with accuracy and feeling. Unless, you have a different definition of 'real musician'?
@MrDjohnt then maybe "real" wasn't the best word. "Learned" would be better. You can be good and accomplished without it, but to be great, it is something you need to know.
@NapoleanXV You'll find that most of if not all professional musicians will HAVE to read sheet music. If you cant read you wont get any jobs that require you to play exactly whats wanted. Unless your someone like for example Vinnie colaiuta who got payed by sting to write a score for some of his albums. Listen to "Seven Days" By sting. That song is a masterpiece with vinnie on drums.
@inimicalODDITY my friend be trolling you. This is good reason not to stay log in on someone else's computer, and not to jump to conclusions regarding comments. especially when they're pretty obviously trolling.
@NapoleanXV Obvious troll is obvious, but listen to the music to see why he uses 2 pairs of hats, and then you try learning this and then recording it in a few days without sheet music.

Travis, you are absolutely my inspiration for anything percussion. You have such a unique style that takes the whole idea of drumset and throws it out the window. You are hands down my hero and will always look up to you, musically. Thanks for everything you've done.
When I looked at the transcription i noticed that it's far different to what I'm accustomed to, I'm assuming its something to do with american drum notation being different. can anyone give a quick run down of the numbers?
@rustyiscoolbeans It's not that different from a traditional notation. You just pretty much replace the notes with numbers: 35=Bass 40=Snare 43&45=Toms 42/46=Closed/Open Hi-hat 44=Pedal Hi-hat 51=Ride 53=Ride bell 49&57=Crashes 52=China 55=Splash
