I think Rob Guest passed away not long after this. Anthony Callea has the best voice in Australia ( aside from John Farnham,Barnesy etc). It would have been good if he won Idol but like Jojop72 has stated, it is better that he didnt. He should bring out a greatest hits cd (if he hasn't already?)

I'm a diehard Mariah Carey fan, but what I like most about Anthony's version is that he makes it 100% his own. It's like he's singing his own song, not covering one.
That's what takes the most amount of effort: originality. And he has it.

This okay singer is actually touring with Whitney Houston on her world tour when she comes to Australia in Feb 10'. He and this version is definately not karoake and I'm sure Whitney has seen some of his performances given he is touring with her. Anthony has never been an Opera singer, he an amazing singer/ performer. Hope you get a chance to listen to some of his other songs on Youtube.
mcworld. not sure what most of that means other than that you prefer Whitney. Singing a different arrangement with instrumental accompaniment isn't karaoke. He's a pop singer, Andrea Bocelli is classical and doesn't sing anything like this style. I prefer it sung in this way but don't feel the need to put the other version down. Steven Schwartz thought this solo version was 'wow'.
@jjmcoates yea he has amazing potentials for being known worldwide.. i honestly think the fact that he came out for being gay stops it from him getting international fame. Look at how other artists lost fans that way.. but thats what I think, couldn't see why he should not be known all over the world

@jjmcoates Being of Italian descent, Anthony would be very close to his family, and probably prefers to stay at home close to them. Also, its probably better to be a huge fish in a small pond and stay in Australia, rather than going to the US and being a tiny fish in a huge pond. Lots of people at home think he's made the right choice by staying in Australia.

YW. The reason I like it because it changes it up and he sustains notes. Most guys just sing it the same way all the way through with no emotion or anything. I wonder what his full vocal range is. I bet he could belt out some 5th octaves notes.
He always performs with emotion. The Prayer, Nella Fantasia and Go The Distance, Live For Love (and others) show the top we've heard so far, but his lower range is extending, I think. Di Sole e D'Azzurro and I Want To Know What Love Is show the bottom beautifully, though in the first you can't hear them so well in the recordings. I like reading your comments, thank you.
Thanks for the info and compliment. I love "The Prayer." I think he is baritone, so he can naturally go pretty low, but he sings in his middle voice to suite the kind of music he sings. A lot of male pop singers, especially the leads, seem to always sing in tenor, which is high male voice--higher than Anthony. It's kind of like how like almost all female pop singers are sopranos (high female voice). You don't really hear lower-registered singers all that much.
Your comments are very interesting. I've always thought of him as a tenor, but I think you may be right, that he does have a very stronge low range. It seems to lend him that warmth of tone and deep vibrating timbre that one rarely hears.
And one of the things I like so much about his singing is the way he moves seamlessly up and down the different octaves while sustaining the power.
I agree with you, but since making that comment, I listened to some of his other stuff like "Live For Love," and I think it might be a tenor. I'm not sure now. :-) It's kind of hard to tell with him. I'm not a trained singer or anything, either, so who knows. I have heard of this voice called baritenor where the guy's voice that easily transition from one to the other and back again, but that's just something I read. He touched everyone there every single note was flawless and he went so easily into the high notes. His voice was so pure yet full of passion power & intensity. Anthony is a beautiful caring special man with a big heart who does so much for charities and really loves children. He has such a beautiful heart and soul.

I was lucky enough to be at the Taping of Wicked when Anthony sang this beautiful song. Wow what a fantastic amazing magical voice Anthony has. He just blew me away when he sang it so so beautiful. Anthony is phenomenal talent and he brings so much joy with his music. He really is The King of Vocals. Thank You Anthony for sharing your amazing beautiful voice with us all. YW. The reason I like it because it changes it up and he sustains notes. Most guys just sing it the same way all the way through with no emotion or anything. I wonder what his full vocal range is. I bet he could belt out some 5th octaves notes.

He always performs with emotion. The Prayer, Nella Fantasia and Go The Distance, Live For Love (and others) show the top we've heard so far, but his lower range is extending, I think. Di Sole e D'Azzurro and I Want To Know What Love Is show the bottom beautifully, though in the first you can't hear them so well in the recordings. I like reading your comments, thank you.

Thanks for the info and compliment. I love "The Prayer." I think he is baritone, so he can naturally go pretty low, but he sings in his middle voice to suite the kind of music he sings. A lot of male pop singers, especially the leads, seem to always sing in tenor, which is high male voice--higher than Anthony. It's kind of like how like almost all female pop singers are sopranos (high female voice). You don't really hear lower-registered singers all that much.

Your comments are very interesting. I've always thought of him as a tenor, but I think you may be right, that he does have a very stronge low range. It seems to lend him that warmth of tone and deep vibrating timbre that one rarely hears.
And one of the things I like so much about his singing is the way he moves seamlessly up and down the different octaves while sustaining the power.

I agree with you, but since making that comment, I listened to some of his other stuff like "Live For Love," and I think it might be a tenor. I'm not sure now. :-) It's kind of hard to tell with him. I'm not a trained singer or anything, either, so who knows. I have heard of this voice called baritenor where the guy's voice that easily transition from one to the other and back again, but that's just something I read. I'm glad you find my comments interesting. :-) Thanks.

I listen to this clip at least twice every day. There's no other performance like it - I just love the control and the beautiful rich sounds and the variety of tones in his big masculine voice. He makes me feel all the emotion of the lyrics.
