There also one thing they forgot to tell us that the regular seasonal flu have kill 14,000 people in the U.S since the start to the year. while there are only 1 people had been killed with swine flu. Also there are on an average of 36,000 people are kill yearly in the U.S and around 300,000 people are kill world wide with regular seasonal flu.

They are in no way "related." Furthermore people died from infection as a result of the 1918 flu FAR more than the flu itself. We can combat infection quite well now.
The Aussies in question were only a handful and they were all on the same flight as the New Zealanders who got Swine Flu. They were only detained for a couple of hours by our Quarantine service while mandatory testing was conducted. Its been standard practice for well over 20 years when people come off a flight looking unwell for unexplainable reasons or have been on the same flight as a sick person with a potentially major contagious disease.

Do you understand what the pandemic levels mean? The common cold would be considered a level 6 regardless of the rate of mortality. Furthermore it's statistically been shown to be no more deadly than the common flu. Levels have nothing to do with death...you are a smart one.

The vaccine was discontinued due to subsequent illnesses being reported from its use.

Charlotte, I think you're being a little unfair. While many of the things you've said are correct, the one thing you left out is WE DON'T KNOW. The CDC who has studied this a lot more than you have doesn't know the epidemiology of this strain and isn't sure how virulent it's going to be. Because we don't know they are err'ing on the side of caution. It's unfair to lump it all in with "hype" or to impuin their motives. Let's all take a wait and see approach.

It should be noted that the Spanish Influenza pandemic of 1918, like Swine flu, did start out in a rather mild way in the spring time. It was not until the fall when the virus mutated that it became a killer. Keeping this in mind, people should still be taking the proper precautions -- eg, washing their hand frequently, staying home from work if they're sick, and not travelling to highly infected areas--in order to avoid a possibly horrific pandemic in the near future.
I completely agree with you that the US media does blow things out of proportion, and that they really feed on creating fear rather than actually providing the news neutrally to people (as they should).
I understand that at this point, it may not be the time to panic, however, I think it is important to take the proper precautions, and anticipate a potential pandemic. The issue with this specific virus, is that it is in a class of virus that humans have not been exposed to yet, and therefore do not yet have antibodies to fight it.
Yea I really don't know why the swine flu is so crazy. I live three hours from Mexico and it hits in NY crazy. So I tend not to worry about this stuff, when it hits plague status I'll be nervous. Fear of a possible pandemic is irrational. It's like the recession, I know people are feeling it but I choose not to participate thank you. I don't feel the recession, my life is good. People like to worry about nothing. Worry about animal abuse, gay marriage laws, or pollution, something real at least.
This strain of flu in and of itself is not necessarily deadly, any more than any other strain. The deadly part is if you have a weakened immune system, the virus can cause pnemonia, which can kill you. The CDC was reported as saying "this has caused an outbreak in awareness." As with any flu, or flu season, wash your hands, cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough, use a tissue and toss it, use alcohol based hand sanitizer, don't touch your face a lot. It's flu season people, act accordingly.

Viruses don't spread very easily between different species (including humans), so when it does happen, like what's going on now, it's big news.

They illustrate that someone died in America (making them sound American) and fail to mention that the person was already HORRIBLY ill in Mexico and treatment was most likely already too late. I don't know what media you check in with, but my sources (CNN and BBC) made it very clear that the first US death was a visiting Mexican. You are incorrect, however, when you say that he came into the US for treatment. He came into the US to visit relatives, and fell ill four days *after* arriving in Texas.
This is very true as well. 90% of flu deaths are young children, elderly who are ill/living in extended care centres, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems from health complications like AIDS etc.
Just eat healthy food and have a good diet, exercise a bit to get some cardio for your heart and shower/wash your hands... you'll be fine.

You are so right on this, it mostly because of the media. There also one thing they forgot to tell us that the regular seasonal flu have kill 14,000 people in the U.S since the start to the year. while there are only 1 people had been killed with swine flu. Also there are on an average of 36,000 people are kill yearly in the U.S and around 300,000 people are kill world wide with regular seasonal flu.

The concern with flu is the potential for mutated variants.

The Aussies in question were only a handful and they were all on the same flight as the New Zealanders who got Swine Flu. They were only detained for a couple of hours by our Quarantine service while mandatory testing was conducted. Its been standard practice for well over 20 years when people come off a flight looking unwell for unexplainable reasons or have been on the same flight as a sick person with a potentially major contagious disease.

Do you understand what the pandemic levels mean? The common cold would be considered a level 6 regardless of the rate of mortality. Furthermore it's statistically been shown to be no more deadly than the common flu. Levels have nothing to do with death...you are a smart one.

According to the book, the vaccine was rejected by pigs farmers, but later marketed for humans. During Gerald Ford admin., a vaccination program was developed in which 40 million people participated. The vaccine was discontinued due to subsequent illnesses being reported from its use.

Charlotte, I think you're being a little unfair. While many of the things you've said are correct, the one thing you left out is WE DON'T KNOW. The CDC who has studied this a lot more than you have doesn't know the epidemiology of this strain and isn't sure how virulent it's going to be. Because we don't know they are err'ing on the side of caution. It's unfair to lump it all in with "hype" or to impuin their motives. Let's all take a wait and see approach.

I received that swine flu shot in 1976 right in my classroom in grade school and 1 year later I was having grand mal seizures.I wont reccomend the flu shot to anyone.Now they are linking this vaccination to several nerological disorders.If you are going to get this shot request a detailed brouchure on all of it's ingredients, and then make a healthful educated decision.

First time viewing your vids. Although there is great hype, whether warranted or not. This flu "is" serious in nature. It will kill, it will kill a lot of people and not the weak or elderly that the run of the mill flu takes out. Hype or not, preventative measures may have to be undertaken in order to counteract its spread. Not what I would describe as a laughing matter. "..isn't even an American" This thing Knows no borders. Hope nobody close to you gets it.

It should be noted that the Spanish Influenza pandemic of 1918, like Swine flu, did start out in a rather mild way in the spring time. It was not until the fall when the virus mutated that it became a killer. Keeping this in mind, people should still be taking the proper precautions -- eg, washing their hand frequently, staying home from work if they're sick, and not travelling to highly infected areas--in order to avoid a possibly horrific pandemic in the near future.

I understand that at this point, it may not be the time to panic, however, I think it is important to take the proper precautions, and anticipate a potential pandemic. The issue with this specific virus, is that it is in a class of virus that humans have not been exposed to yet, and therefore do not yet have antibodies to fight it.

Yea I really don't know why the swine flu is so crazy. I live three hours from Mexico and it hits in NY crazy. So I tend not to worry about this stuff, when it hits plague status I'll be nervous. Fear of a possible pandemic is irrational. It's like the recession, I know people are feeling it but I choose not to participate thank you. I don't feel the recession, my life is good. People like to worry about nothing. Worry about animal abuse, gay marriage laws, or pollution, something real at least.

This strain of flu in and of itself is not necessarily deadly, any more than any other strain. The deadly part is if you have a weakened immune system, the virus can cause pnemonia, which can kill you. The CDC was reported as saying "this has caused an outbreak in awareness." As with any flu, or flu season, wash your hands, cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough, use a tissue and toss it, use alcohol based hand sanitizer, don't touch your face a lot. It's flu season people, act accordingly.

Thanks for your video, I think its a great idea to help keep the calm- there are enough media jumping up and down causing fear. I have to say though, that I am from Australia, and the people that were quarantined were quarantined for a very good reason. They were on a plane with some New Zealanders who have tested positive for Swine flu.
As an Australian citizen, I think that for the sake of the rest of Australia, they should volunteer to be tested!!

Viruses don't spread very easily between different species (including humans), so when it does happen, like what's going on now, it's big news.
That being said, I really do doubt that this is going to be a huge killer virus with millions dead. Most of the infected aren't even in the hospital.
Now for my question: what the hell good do governments think that face masks are going to do? Yes, viruses are can enter the body through the mouth, but they can also enter through the nose and eyes.

What people never really talk about is why this really happened, like with the bird flu. If we didn't have so much livestock, then I think the chances of these diseases jumping would be greatly reduced. Actually if you bothered to understand their chart then maybe you would have a point, however you are clearly misinformed. It illustrates simply how much something SPREADS, not it's threat level. The YEARLY flu could be considered a level 6 pandemic if we tracked it like we are this one. Good job looking like an ass. It's BLOWING fucktard.

the flu that they are talking about is very difrent from what we are all use to. What they are also looking at is that this flu do not target the sick it targets the rest of the health poulation. And for the qureanty this is what is needed for the way that it is pased form person to person their are only a few bugs out there that are more cumunikible than the flu and the coman clold

It certainly is. Any flu has the possibility for variants. It has been blown WAY out of proportion. This is NOT the same as 1918 unless it mutates.

I am not a biologist, but I get the impression that this flu has a significantly higher possibility of mutating into dangerous variants than others do. I do not advocate panic or silliness, but I fail to see the point of insulting the media when what I've seen has been fairly accurate.

Really? Confirmed deaths have been 23. The media illustrates the SUSPECTED deaths at over 150. They illustrate that someone died in America (making them sound American) and fail to mention that the person was already HORRIBLY ill in Mexico and treatment was most likely already too late. It is about advertising dollars, not fact.

Agreed, the 1st wave of 1918 flu that hit in march wasnt very severe, but when the second wave hit in september that year it had mutated.

Correct, however most people died from Bacterial Pneumonia and other complications. Today we are far more prepared and we know it is a virus (they thought it was a bacteria and tried to treat it as such.)

Too true! Nothing new though. Kinda expected something like this from the news media and dumb people again. Remember the bird flue scare and the millenium bug (y2k)? People should stop watching their T.V.'s. Especially mainstream media here in the U.S. It's bad for their health.

I agree about the 24hr news stations... watching them just makes you paranoid about everything.. i try to just read the paper daily and maybe watch a bit of local news.
Also, about the "American" death in Texas, it was a Mexican. You're right that doesn't have to mean anything, but it's proof of how ridiculous the news networks were and are when they were yelling "First American death to swine flu!"

But as for Aus, we quarantine everything, food, pets, books, anything organic... Its just the way border security works here.
If someone comes into the country visibly sick, by law they have to diagnose them before letting them go just in case its something that doesn't exist in the country yet.

More than 90% of standard flu deaths are of the very old and very young, so it is disingenuous to cite the annual flu deaths figure.
I don't know what media you check in with, but my sources (CNN and BBC) made it very clear that the first US death was a visiting Mexican. You are incorrect, however, when you say that he came into the US for treatment. He came into the US to visit relatives, and fell ill four days *after* arriving in Texas.

This is very true as well. 90% of flu deaths are young children, elderly who are ill/living in extended care centres, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems from health complications like AIDS etc.
Just eat healthy food and have a good diet, exercise a bit to get some cardio for your heart and shower/wash your hands... you'll be fine.
