@MarksmanLeBlanc yes, you can tell the person to shift into second gear and give them a little push, I've done it several times here in Belgium when the snow was really bad last year, hardly cost me a couple of minutes each time and saved the person a lot of trouble, but yeah, if you do nothing you tend to assume there is nothing to be done.

And hey, that hill is pretty big, if they can't make it up halfway without spinning out, they will get stuck a lot more even after giving them help. That guy driving doesn't seem the be the brightest and he doesn't seem to get the idea of keeping a steady foot on the pedal when driving up an icy slope. Ok, so I'm a self admitted terrible driver (I've only been driving for a few months). What is the right way to go up the hill/ drive in snow. I mean, I thought you were just supposed to keep pressing down on the gas until it went.
@sezshy You gotta imagine what the wheels are doing. Too much gas with not enough friction (on snow) the wheels will just spin in place and you won't be going nowhere. The key is to only give as much gas as the tyres can handle without spinning (so not much at all, especially if its a FWD car). That way you have static friction between the wheels and the road and you can even accelerate slightly. Also if its safe you might want to build up speed before going up the hill, that also helps.

Vauxhalls are worse than BMW in the snow! Trust me has a vectra last year and a 3 series this year! I was dreading the winter with a rear wheel drive. That is nothing. In the very early 80's. I purchased a small 4 cylinder for fuel mileage. Having seen how well front wheel drives propel themselves in snow and such. I thought I was going to be almost as good as the 4x4 I was leaving behind. That piece of fly plunder would get stuck on a slight downhill with just accumulation. The person is driving a Vauxhall, says it all really lol. Most idiots I've seen personally on the road (60% by my reckoning) drive a Vauxhall, and Vauxhall don't have 60% of the UK car market by far........
