  • im male but i like using the girl's bike frame..easy to hop on and easy to dismount too in case of emergency

  • The fat people in my USA town will not be able to ride bike. They are fat.

  • @hainguyenx and you are ignorant. please don't generalize.

  • Japan has quite a few similarities with the Netherlands this is one of them. (Could have something to do with trading in the old times )

  • i love clicking CC on bottom right and let the funny happen

  • I'm watching this in 2012 and it's just as interesting ^_^

  • I wonder why they all have their saddles soooo low? Of course, its easier to reach the ground when you stop, but it's a disaster for longer rides

  • "SUPER Mamachari GP FUJI SPEEDWAY" is the most attended bike race in Japan. The is a seven hour endurance race with 1000 teams. Bike must be categorized as mamachari and have a front basket, headlight, and kick stand. Any decoration is welcome but performance enhancing modification is prohibited. Team must have at least two race queens.

Check out this crazy race on YouTube!

Note: Mamachari = mama's bike or bike looks like it All bikes on this video are mamacharis.

  • who gives a toss about helmets? I was expecting women in short skirts so I can smash my helmet.

  • wow... all that monotony life sure breaks up in anime. It's like they don't want to live like this so they make animations to make their wild dreams come true. LOL bikes are all the same -_- man... what a disaster.

  • Would it seem kind of out of place if I were to have a mountain bike fitted with a rear wheel rack like theirs are built with? Mostly its just the mountain bike aspect of it... might come in handy when going up hills.

  • It's funny because at the beginning of the clip when the guy is giving the girl a double on his bike.... this is considered illegal ^ ^ nice one lol or riding while holding an umbrella LOL this guy just gives videos on people doing illegal things on bikes.... classic

  • @monolocco Just because its Illegal in your country doesnt mean its illegal all over the world

  • @areyouserious83 errrrr idiot!!! it's I was talking about JAPAN. Geez you are a moron > < I live in Japan and know the rules. Please go troll some other post. Man we have some moron in youtube.....

  • @monolocco Settle down little boy

  • @monolocco The girl could be 6 years old or younger. Then this is legal. Well, you never know. :)

  • why do they have the same bike?

  • @scarlettrose11, in Japan you can see basically 3 types: race , mountain and "domestic" bikes (I don´t really know what´s it´s "official" name). The "domestic" type - the one we see in the video - is the most common one (race and mountain bikes are hard to see on the streets). You can put baskets for the shopping (or whatever you want to take on the bike) and chairs for you babies.

  • @a19958029 The most common type you refer here is called mama-chari. Chari is a kind of nickname of bike. Mama-chari came from mom's shopping bicycle, I think. It's not an official category name but is a name everyone uses in Japan.

  • I've got a mountain bike and a racer here in Tokyo but the problem is, you can only go as fast as everyone else around you which is just faster than walking speed. Their "girls" bikes have a lower center of gravity which means they can stay upright when the traffic slows to a stall while I am having trouble trying to balance.

  • Is it true, from your perspective that cyclists in Japan are treated less favourably to other vehicles and pedestrians?. I read a news article not long ago that a young high school student texting on her phone ran into a older lady. She had to pay compensation at the amount of 5 million yen. Have you heard of other situations similar to this?

  • @daaero, the order is something like this: (1) pedestrians - (2) bikes - (3) cars, having 1 "more" rigths over 3. According to the textbook I was reading to get a driving license, bikes are considered a type of vehicle, hence they should go on the road, not the footpath. When a vehicle runs over a pedestrian (bikes included) the driver usually on the lose side. When you ride a bike is highly discouraged:

    - Ride with a passenger

    - Ride with an umbrella

    - Ride with headphones

  • 盗撮してるの女子高生に気づかれてるよwww

  • I am so shipping my bmx over to japan when i go there

  • That is weird and funny how different cultures may be.

    Great to see such insights!

For example in Germany texting while riding or riding bicycle drunk is a crime,

that will get your driver licence revoked.

  • @SEThatered shit!! thay revoke your drivers license? in America or at least my town thay just give you a ticket and tell you to go home

  • @dvpkid

    I kid you not.

And if you don't have a license, but violate a road safety on a bicycle,

you'll pay a fine and will have more complications getting a license in the future.

Though foreigners often get just a fine (+ file a case to a homeland, which often has no consequences)

  • @SEThatered shit i got it easy than

  • So if I rode my road racing bike... people would look at me funny? cause I would probably stand out... and what I wear when I ride too. and... do they ride road bikes? like racing, the best bikes ever made? (just sayin)

  • thanks, I meant to spell head injury.

  • its allowed to ride bike on the sidewalk?

    not here in germany.

and we are "individual". Many different kinds of "bikes". City, Mountain, Trekking, Race, BMX.

  • I still call them girls bike. Because they are. Hehee

  • I love these videos ^^ You have a very funny outlook on the culture

  • The irony of using an umbrella in Japan.

  • Where I live, you can ride a bike anywhere. If I were on Japan, I would bring my Mongoose bike xD

  • LOL I would look really stupid then, on a mountain bike wearing all the gear in Japan? :(

  • VladPayne Mountain bikes are popular among school children, but I see adults riding mountain bike in the cities too.

  • i need to learn how to ride a bike lol

  • people in the u.s. should right bikes to school or work more often instead of getting a ride

  • @Callope1126 ok but too many of us live way too far from work or school to make it practical.

  • @Callope1126

If we didn't have to worry about bikes getting stolen here....in Japan, they don't have those concerns because people are considerate...

  • @Ambzelia89 so true.

  • @Ambzelia89 i only buy ugly second hand bikes so nobody will think of stealing them..but still my bike got got stolen..so i bought another second hand bike but this time really ugly....its been over a year and i still have it :D

  • @EvendimataE

nice :) may i ask where you usually buy them? like rummage sales orr? im considering doing it...

  • I wanna ride my bmx in there I wonder what would happen lookin different

  • i've always wanted to go to japan

  • just an observation...everyone seems to have the seat set very low??

  • Question; why is a guys bike type of bike that would harm a guy more than a girl? Not that a girl would like to, err, 'sit' on it either.

They've got taste, the japanese. That's exactly the type of bike i want! <3

  • LOl Here AT Japan My Mom Said You Should Know Biking LOL If You DOnt Know How THen GTFO JAPAN

  • That's the (green) way to travel. Cool video - thanks

  • in japan you are not allowed to right a bike with someone is sitting on the back things (I am no good in english) or is it.

  • why don't they seem to have modern looking bikes there?? they all kinda look the same..

  • Japan a bicycle country? Not as much as the city where I live. At some point it was (or maybe still is) bicycle city of the world.

If you have time lookup videos of the city of Groningen in the Netherlands.

Besides, we do have a wide variety of bikes here. We wear no helmets either and our normal clothes. Nothing bad happens here without that. So it's all a bit overrated, the protection gear.

  • @LogiForce86 stfu nobody cares its the internet.

  • @HomerBong You obviously care enough to respond with a negative comment. Ignoring is the best way to not care. And yes, I respond because I don't like guys with a dirty mouth when not needed. In that respect only I care.

Have a good day sir, and I hope you'll enjoy this great guy's video's. :)

  • if only i could bike to school!

  • damn... I WANNA RIDE MY BMX IN THERE!!1

  • If I were able to ship my bike to Japan, like if I took it on the plane with me somehow, is that possible? Would I be able to ride it around without breaking any laws, or do I need a bike license or something in Japan?

  • So as New Yorkers

  • 0:53 look at my hot ride....lol gotta love that one

  • Nagoya lol

  • カマチャリw

  • 5* for the short skirts! :D

  • I have some friends from Asia who were surprised to found out about helmet laws in Canada. Would it be odd for a foreigner to wear a helmet in Japan?

  • @BoltMitch

    No.

    Some Japanese people wear them.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom Great! Thanks!

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom hey what are the bills like on avrage there

  • so is it common so see normal bikes there? like the type used in the US?

  • When I lived in Japan, I did see a few road bikes riden by serious competitive style riders. But you are right most of the bikes you tend to see in Japan are the ones you filmed with the basket on the front.

  • hmmmm

slow mo for the school girls in skirts

    ;)

  • In Finland bikes are used in a similar way. Everyone has one and uses it in a practical sense(not really for exercise, but for traveling in stead), nor do people have special "biking clothes". What we finns call city bikes are pretty popular..

    :)

  • they are girls bikes

  • i wonder if thers like a PSA about texting and bike ridding where the kid is texting and boom gets run over and causes a fifty car pile up

  • very cool. 5 thumbs up! lol

  • Awesome. To the bike ridaz from Japan.

  • grrrr... bikes need to be less on the footpath... when there even is a foot path. Bikes everywhere - constantly on the lookout so me and the GF don't get run over

  • oh man! just a little bit more wind and the skirts will fly! just wondering though...why dont they sit on their skirts i mean wont it dirty their p-panties *nosebleed*

  • Compared to texting and biking, driving and texting is for wimps.

  • @xchosen123 you sir, are EXTREME

  • using a bike instead of manual walking,

    time is gold,

    that's the concept.

  • Another youtuber was showing off his bridgestone bravestar, which looks a lot like these bikes. They look like easy going cruiser bikes.

  • Cycling in a suit! LOL! Tough!

  • When I drive in Japan, I really get concerned and scared of older bicycling with an umbrella in hand weaving right and left. Why don't they wear a poncho to be safe?

  • A have a question.

Are there special ways for bike which you can use to ride the bike on it ? In germany there are bike paths...

Is it allowed to ride the bike on the street?

    5 Stars

  • @nightskill01

They ride them on the footpath more than on the street (unless there is no footpath)

    Thanks for all the 5's!!

  • Interesting! It's there bike is part of there life. But I also noticed that they don't wear head gear to minimize hear injury.

  • @kyyote1

    That is right!

    Watch the helmet video!

  • @kyyote1 you spelled hair wrong...

  • @kyyote1 it is overkill. they invest in decent, safe infrastructure for bikes. Chance of being hit by a car are real slim. I want to see this kind of infrastructure in the USA. We are all about cars and little else.

  • @kyyote1 It's actually hard to find a single research that concludes bike helmets save lives..

  • @kyyote1 It's because the Japanese don't need the government to tell them what to do. They are free to choose

  • Not that im a perv but japanese schoolgirls have a special place in my heart... 5 stars for 0:46 to 0:55

  • dont be silly..your a maniac!!! lol

  • @6390316, Of course you're not a perv. What's not to love about Japanese school girls? Or school girls anywhere, for that matter!

  • @6390316 i like them in porn.

  • i agree with losbats and pooeyegg, i hate driving behing cyclist, im soo scared i'll hit and kill one someday.

  • I agree with you too. I have been nearly run over several times on my bike, while obeying the laws of the road here in the UK, due to drivers who are also law abiding. There are junctions and roads which are simply NOT bike friendly.

  • People would use more bikes in australia if the government wasn't so stupid and classified them as Road Vehicles, as far as I'm concerned a bicycle is a hazard on the road to the rider and traffic, If they were allowed on the footpath it would be much better.

  • I agree LosBats. They have the same laws here in the US. And even some state laws here in Oregon where you have to give a certain ammount of distance to a bicyclist on the road and you are not allowed to pass them or you get fined.

    Anyway, another great video, japanchannel.

  • @LosBats - then they would be a hazard to the rider and pedestrians. Let's face it, to any mode of land transport (pedestrian, bicycle, motorcycle, car, bus, truck, etc.), any other form of transport is a hazard. Get used to it.

  • @JBofBrisbane

Your absolutely right brother, there are alot of hazards in this world especially on the road., thanks.

  • @JBofBrisbane Are you serious? it's easier for a pedestrian to dodge a bicycle than for a car to hit the brakes fast enough not to hit them....which one is more hazardous? a car that can kill a bicyclist or you dodging a bike going 5mph....?

  • @WaiWu - yes, I'm serious. Are you? I want to ride a bit faster than 8 km/h, which would make me a hazard to pedestrians if I was on the footpath. The Queensland Traffic Code used to be short and to the point about this - "To ride a bicycle on the footpath is illegal". Nowadays it is legal, but cyclists must "give way to pedestrians" while on the footpath.

  • @LosBats i only would prefer that bicycles have their own lane on the road.like..these people texting while on their bicycle can harm those walking on the sidewalk

  • @LosBats Same thing in America, although I've seen plenty of people not follow those rules and police don't really enforce them.

  • This should be encouraged ! ^__^ I love how there were school girls definitely moe and definitely reminds me of anime ! :D p.s. wear your helmets =3.

  • You may not have noticed, but no one is riding a racing bike. They're all on the sidewalk moving at jogging speed. Falling off at this speed is the same as tripping. In the US, there's places that make one wear a helmet any time they're seated on a bike and it's ridiculous. WTG Japan for getting it right! :)

  • I like the japanese culture and exspecially the food , wish I could speak japanese, so I could go on a holiday to Japan someday ^_^

  • if i go there im bringing my double suspension mountan bike just to be uneque

  • being unique isn't admired here like it is in the west :-)

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom

    That sounds....depressing.

So your expected to just be one in the crowd?

  • @hinatagirl101

    Pretty much.

  • I think strict rules for helmet discourages people to use their bikes more often.

I use my helmet on my racing bike but if I were to ride on mamachari, I wouldn't use helmet. When you look at all other countries people use more bikes don't wear helmets.

No matter how many racing bicycles on the street, it won't make any difference unless people start using utility bikes for everyday use.

    I confess I was one of those people leaving a bike without a lock at the station, everyday. ^_^;

  • Interesting that none wear helmets. Even more interesting are those crazy oval wheels. Must be some kind of space time warp going on over there :-)

  • I am making a video on helmets..

they wear them when they are just standing around but not when they ride bikes!

  • these videos actually do prepare me for japan. its like i can go there and not be out of the loop. makes me feel like if I go over there it wasn't my 1st time.

  • great!

that is one reason i make them!

have a look at the forum on our website at the thread called:

"going to Japan - what do I need to know"

    I think it will help.

  • I love your videos!! I love the random bits of information about Japan that I would never realize...until I make a trip there one day hopefully.

  • Thanks man :-)

    I specialize in random!!

I keep an eye out for good stuff and try to bring you a new one every week!

  • me too man

  • Okay get a bike and start a trend. now you are probly wondering how. put base ball cards in the spokes...lol... and a light. and deck it out....there you go.

  • I want to go to Japan.

  • you and i both

  • That is quite weird.

  • I MIISS JAPAN
