  • im YVAN in my schools production

  • lmao.....then what?

  • wow, i touched on this the night before my A level exam. i'm doing this monolouge tomorrow...well not the whole thing, only up to about 1.08 in your vid (without the lines cut) it was good to watch and see the difference between ours. i love the pace in your version (and it is allot to plow through xD) allthough i think...it is a tab bit rushed...but thats my opinion xD anyhow good job and thanks for uploading!

  • Who was brought here bby LK?

  • @MrMusicalGamer Me... *raises hand*

  • Lovely performance :D.

  • Awesome, I am Yvan in my University's production of Art this fall. I really enjoyed this, thanks for posting!

  • Yvan was epic, but my favorite part was Serge. XD "And then what?"

  • Fantastic! Doing Art as a duolouge for my AS-Drama exam, but I've just discovered this...kind of wish I did a monolouge instead..!

  • lilttle kuriboh did this

this is faster and funnyer but his is better done.

    no offence

  • this guy also looks a lot like raul esparza =]

  • im doing this for my college scholarship talent audition =]

  • I got hold of this play through my creative writing class, after reading it and loving it, i searched for it here on youtube, this scene was definatley the best find on this site when searching for live performances of Art, wonder if you cant upload the rest of the play? im sure the response would be great....

  • i did this for my Drama AS playing Yvan and i can honestly say its one of the hardest but the most enjoyable experinces of my life. Well done guys it looks like you enjoyed yourself as much as me!

  • im doing this monologue fro my theater course!!!! hahah this show is FANTASTIC and the monologue is a bitch to memorize hahahah

  • It looks tough %.% I was wondering, do you have the actual monologue? I've searched from here to heck and back, and I still can't find it X.X

  • it was so hard to find i dont have it but if you type out some of the monologue in google you should find it lol thats what i did hahah it was tough but it is ou there! lol

  • Ah. I ended up just listening to it and typing it as I went along (which took FOREVER but it was still worth it!)

  • God this is so much better than that other clip I watched. Jesus it was horrible. The guy rushed his words and used absolutely no feeling. This clip alone is inspiring me to get into theatre.

  • So absorbing...

I wish I could monologue this piece...as long as this dude. :/

  • by theatrical definition it is a monologue - a single person talking to others for an extended time...it is indeed a response, in the form of a monologue.

  • would it be possible to see the whole play, because this is the best performance of the english version I've seen.

  • bravo!

i am studying this piece at UVA and this is a superb example for an awesome way to perform this part of the play.

  • He's very very good, but I think he should've paused for laugh breaks and for a few key words. He could've milked the "bitch" line. Still he's quite good.

  • Thanks for the kind words, L.S.

Regarding the lack of stops - that was a director's choice (mine) and Earl agreed - we felt it worked best to just plow on through the lines and let the laughs fall where they may...as opposed to expecting them here or there in this kind of piece.

  • I can see your point there, a very good idea. The only problem was that the laughing drowned out the words of the monologue sometimes, but I can see where you're coming from. Still really great, I have to say. :)

  • @kendonna The brilliance in this is the shear length of the monologue, the quick paced angst and the deliverance by the actor. Well done. To make pauses for laughs would have slowed the piece down and would have been unnecessary (the kind of thing you would expect an amateur dramatics society to do to this wonderful play)

    Once again... well done!

  • then what? awesome!

  • Can you possibly put the scene that this monologue leads in to up? I did just that scene in a show case and loved it, I would really enjoy seeing your version, because this was wonderful!

(We did from the "Then what?" To Yvan's "What do you mean in front of you!?" thing)

  • Bravo! I regret not seeing it in July.

  • Excellent!! I really wish I could have seen this one.

  • Where can I find the transcript of this? It's so funny!

  • Thank you so much! I needed to find a play to direct at my school, and you've helped me decide!

  • "Art" is a great play...how are you going to handle the language? Is this for a high school or college?

  • what do you mean? If you mean the swearing, I'll just look through the script and fix it.

  • @kendonna What's the big deal with language?

  • "Then what"? Sweet! This was GREAT!

  • Earl we meant to go and didn't find the time...so sorry that we missed this very good performance of yours! And very glad to find it here :-) Kathy & Kellen R.

  • You will have another chance to see Earl in "Art" - we are repeating the show July 11-13 at Ben Davis High School's auditorium with a sponsorship from Wayne Township Community Theatre. Watch for publicity.

  • I'm so glad I found this. I'm directing this play and my Yvan needed advice for the monologue. This performance was phenomenal. It will be a great inspiration.

  • Thanks for the comments...where are you doing your production of "Art"?

  • East Troy, Wisconsin. I'm very excited. I have three great actors that I barely need to direct at all. I think it will turn out great.

  • So glad that Team Earl didn't miss this tour de force!

  • The BEST part of the play! :D

  • Earl - you are the BEST!!!!!!
