Neither the surplus nor the deficit are real. They are projected numbers from the Congressional Budget Office based on static analysis. Phony, unreal.
Um, I don't know how to say this without sounding condescending, so I'm just gonna be condescending.
The projections on the 2000 surplus were made a little over 8 years ago. They were confirmed a little under 8 years ago. I can understand feeling strongly against a candidate, but ignoring hard facts just makes you stop looking passionate and start looking stupid or desperate, and I doubt you are either of them.
I love it when twenty-somethings pretend to condescend. Frankly, you don't do it all that well. It takes a genuine air of phony authority-- something like Joe Biden has-- to do it right.
Those projections were not real. Had the economy continued to grow, such a surplus might have materialized. But, the same President who took credit for it also caused the recession that blew it to bits.
Try reading the financial news, or take a few economics classes.
I do, and I have. They do those projections on a yearly basis, but I can't believe I have to spell out the fact that it means that every year actual numbers come out to prove the CBO projections right or wrong.

And the trillion dollar projected surplus never materialized. The CBO numbers confirm this. At the end of the Clinton era, the surplus peaked at 236 bn. Not remotely close to what was projected. Likewise, the trillion dollar deficit projected was 160 bn as of the end of 2007.
CBO numbers, confirming their static analysis is insanely off the mark.
I don't know how Norm can sit there with a straight face and claim that he can work with people from other parties, while he interjects and interrupts both of the other candidates on a consistant basis. I'm very glad that Dean Barkley was admitted into the debates, not like 6 years ago when they told Jim Moore to take a hike for some reason.
