I feel double blessed for my ancestry name contains Dragon, and my wifes Okinawan culture has the Shisa, our house has at least 6 of them guarding our doors and such. Beyond that, I love Okinawa, spent 5 years stationed there at Kadena AB during 70's, 80's and 90's.
While the whole world is up rising and fighting for their freedom, the Okinawans need to do the same and protest for the rights of their own island. Not only did the Japanese exploit the Okinawans before WWII, now the American military is raping the the land and doing so with no disregard of the people. Okinawans need to fight and lead the people to liberation of this military industrialization of its island. Fight like the Taiwanese, like the Egyptians, like the Libyans! Free OKINAWA !
Chinese that's all i see here. china owned Okinawa for over 600 yrs until the Japanese took control in the 1800s. if u actually compare Chinese culture with Okinawan culture u see its almost the same. Okinawa is Chinese actually not Japanese.
The really fuzzy shisa- are okinawa style. The ones that seemed to have scales, both the red and blue featured in this clip are more chinese style. There's a difference in tail movements and the general nature of how the actors are potraying the shisa-.
There are many reasonings, but mainly because as one of the legends goes - a small boy recieve a Shisa statue from royalty in China to fight off the dragon that was attacking the island. So an honest mistake, but still a very good video.

@heatherlynnb I agree. The Okinawan is distinct from China and from mainland Japan.

Pikaqiu 2 years ago 2
That is true. They are only related because historically the Shisa evolved from the Chinese lions.

Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching. It seems like the line between the Chinese and Okinawan versions can be a little blury at times.
