  • It's amazing in just a few short years what a cultural difference the U.S. became.

  • my school is doing this musical this year :) im playing alice

  • Wow

  • clean version of summer loving hehe

  • This number was cut from network broadcasts of the movie...syndicated as well. For time, I suppose...no stars were ine number.

  • "I'm gonna have to get off", she says, but the girl on the right's expression clearly implies that she's already gotten off.

  • Im doing this play now.... im harvey johnson.... yesssss!!!!!!

  • @TheCrazyirishboy where? what city/school? Sounds great, have a good time....you'll have great memories too! This is a great musical!

  • Die Stimme bei 1:30 wo er I sagt

  • Harvey Johnson: chick magnet of 1963.

  • Harvey Johnson: 1963 pimp!

  • thumbs up if u are here cos of family guy petarded episode :)

  • that is not an hour long song

  • Being in the musical this summer shall be fun(;

  • Can I like this video like 2895493260998811886 times 3

  • Harvey Johnson makes me laugh :)

  • he pinned me in the butt

  • We're doing this show. I'm Deborah Sue. Our Harvey's very very close to this guy.

  • we did the 95 version and I was Mrs. Peterson lolll

  • My school is putting on this play, and I'm auditioning c:

  • @RuSSeLLSGaYaLLTHeWaY OMG if you get in it.. IMA COME SEE YOU

  • By this time a couple would be saying i love you now a days... wish it was like that still...

  • i have to be margie..even tho its not a big part, i still can't sing that high..and i have stage fright. thanks people for not reading that i don't want any lines..

  • Hahaha my friend is that Harvey guy not the real one but she plays that part in a play

  • I'm doing the MUSICAL NOT PLAY GENIUSES in school and i love this song. I ashamed that I'm not in it.

  • Doing this as the play for my school did this song today not it is stuck in my head...

  • THEY MELTED O_O

  • "Man, I wish someone would invent Twitter."

  • the guys bathing suits from 1963 are batmans tights lol

  • i just got cast in this show!! so excited. does anyone know (in the musical), if the whole chorus is in this number at one point? im not in chorus but im not in the fan club

  • poor phone operator

  • ha HA! when those weightlifters say "hiya hugo, hiya stupid!" i lose it.

  • Now i've never seen the movie/ play but, correct me if im wrong, but is this the Intro fro the movie?

  • @TheWhisper365 No, it's not the intro, but it's towards the beginning of the movie. The movie starts with the announcement that Conrad Birdie (Elvis) is getting drafted. It's a great movie.

  • @gallantrycross Well do you know of a site that I can watch it online?

  • @TheWhisper365 YouTube has it in 12 parts. Try typing in Bye Bye Birdie (1963) pt. 1/12. Lots of fun. Get ready with snacks, drinks.

  • @gallantrycross Thank you, you are awesome! lol

  • @TheWhisper365

    No it's not the intro.

  • @KrisMaureenDeVo Yeah I figured that out since I saw the movie with the help of @gallantrycross

Although, it technically is the first number of the movie that involves the majority of the cast. The next song in the rankings would be Honestly Sincere but that's too late in the movie.

  • For a second, at the beginning, I thought they were standing next to each other in the same room talking to each other on the phone.

  • ancient viral communication

  • if only harvey had known where penelope ann was when he called her....

  • I can so see Gloria Steinem seething at this.....

  • I forgot how colorful the sixties were.

  • @MTGandP i dress that colourful :)

  • @MTGandP irony

  • Hello, My name is Elder Price

  • today, one text message would take care of the whole song

  • @klarebear7211 or a facebook relationship change

  • Listen to the girl in the yellow voice at 0:58 need a RECOLA??

  • I like the woodpecker 1:42-1:44

  • What does "they got pinned" mean?? Like did they have sex?? :O (Then why did she mention a school bus?!)

  • @theGoldenMaskedGirl getting pinned meant that they were dating or going steady hope this helped ^^

  • @theGoldenMaskedGirl

He gave her a pin, Like a badge. like a ring, ahah,

This musical is supposed to have a funny dirty undertone,

  • @theGoldenMaskedGirl no! in the 50's, 60's, the guys would give a girl a pin and that would mean that they were "going out" back then.

    Hope I helped!

  • The dancing is very unique in that it resembles actual movement, (swinging your legs back and forth). I mean we all do that to some extent when we're on the phone?? That's cool!

  • haha my high school is doing this musical and I'm Margie :P

  • 2 people don't know that kim and hugo are going steady.

  • Awesome musical!

  • does she mean pinned as in porked?

  • @Edd360 I'm not sure what porked is (I'm guessing they did it) but getting pinned was kind of like giving a girl your class ring. You would get class pins and if you gave it to a girl it meant you exclusively dating

  • @Edd360 No. In the old days they took a safety pin and then the boy pinned it on a girl. Then they would be going steady.

  • I think I'm going to insult people by calling them meat-heads from now on :)

  • Wait...isn't the guy who played Harvey Johnson the same guy who starred in the movie version of "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying?"

  • My school is doing Bye, Bye Birdie this year and Telephone hour is probably my favorite song in the whole show.

  • Poor Harvey Johnson

  • Poor Harvey Johnson

  • Guy in white jacket looks like he's 42

  • It's sad that "where'd he pin you?" Changed for the worst...

  • @DemonBladeAbyssAo9 lol I know right...it took me a few minutes of listening to the song before I understood what they were really talking about. "He pinned her" and "she nailed him" just mean they're going steady. Oh how times have changed!!

  • "Hello Mrs. Miller, this is Harvey Johnson, can iiiii speak to Debra Sue?" lol

  • Hiya HUGO,Hiya STUPID! LOL FAV PART. Lol

  • 1:40 I wish my buble baths were like that

  • Harvey Johnson is why I love this song.

  • I think the "teenage" guy dancing in the white jacket at the end is 45 years old. Who is the beautiful blond girl at the front in the shower scene?

  • lol doing this song for choir its going to be awesome

  • @dodopepelala dito!

  • My theatre production class is doing this musical in the spring! I'm excited c:

  • @lesmiserables314 same here!

  • omg!!!! they use this tune and some of the lyrics in the episode of xena lyre lyre hearts on fire.... its good

  • MEJOR COSA EN TODO EL MUNDO!

  • I'm Kim in my school's production of this!!!! Soooooo excited :)

  • @fallonhadley I was Kim in this musical two years ago! It's so much fun. Break a leg (:

  • harveyjohnson.<3

    ahahahahha.(:

  • This is so bad. Who was the directer of music in this? They need to be locked up. FOREVER.

  • No one laugh, but what the hell does "pined" mean? Btw, my schools doing B.B.B. for musical theater this year... so, yay... :/

  • @Batman7170 Like, her boyfriend gave her a pin to proclaim they are officially dating. There's a little gold thing on Kim's left side of her chest. That is the pin.

  • @Batman7170 LOL same here, (:

  • I like the one from the 90's better but the harvey johnson in this one was way better!

  • I remember my mom letting me watch this movie when I was younger and i kept rewinding the scene to this part.

  • I loved this movie when I was a kid.

  • Wow, wonder how we're gonna do this on stage!:)

  • This is a GREAT early 60's number! Its the ginchiest LOL

  • 2:28 "She nailed him". Did that mean something different back then or what? lol

  • wtf

  • I LOVE YOU HARVEY JOHNSON!!!!

  • Everyone loves Harvey Johnson because everyone in the movie neglects him. The end. Case closed.

  • Well I'm not trying to be against you, I'm just saying I'm not sure why everyone loves him in THIS particular scene LOL for the movie

  • Why does everyone love Harvey Johnson? LOL I don't get it

  • @Natboo99 funny u said that i was recently harvey for a my first play

  • Harvey Johnson.....Babe Magnet of 1963 !

    :-)

  • The car driving at 2:30 is so fake. Awsome song though!

  • Dear lord, Ann-Margaret is all sorts of gorgeous.

  • ..This is the era I belong in. <3 Those clothes!

  • @ebeccaray59 I do too!! im glad im not the only one!

  • This is one of my favorite songs in the movie.

  • I'm Ursula in our play(:

  • @Lyssabellelove

Cool! I hope the performances went well. This is one of my all time fave Broadway musical comedies. I've seen it performed by our local dinner theater 3 time over the years. My favorite character is poor harassed Mr MacAfee (Kim's dad). Love his showstopping number: "Kids". Paul Lynde was perfect in the role!!! :)

  • heya Hugo. are ya stupid. lol, love that part :P

  • 3:16 that guy in the white jacket is like 45 years old!

  • My grandmother used to be obesessed with this musical! XD Now I am...

  • they dont EVEN say "telephone hour" so.. idk.. lol i think it should be called "pinned" X''D

  • @itsKimberlyB ya i know!!! lol

  • this is the play we did for school it was awesome and this was my fav part ever i love drama club

  • Ohhh... so many sexual inuendos... haha

  • oh my gosh, what a great idea to lose wait.

from now on, everytime i answer the phone, i will do aerobics while i talk.

i'll call it my "talk-out routine".

    in-shape me, here i come.

  • oh god i'd hate to be the phone operater in sweet apple.....

  • transcribed the audio its so hilarious!!!

  • Kim looks super old just saying for a teenager?

  • @breakingdawnrsme agreed .

  • brighton high's version of this is SO much better...

  • If only there were teenage girls named Nancy and Ursula nowadays XDDD

  • This is what I'm talking about! This was made in the days when there was talent, passion and creativity instead of crap.

  • @chattymagpie1210 EXACTLY, before AUTOTUNE

  • I think Hugo is fitter than Conrad!

  • harvey johnson is pimpin

  • they should do a remake : )

  • @zbratizme03 No ... please no remake. Leave the original in tact. Period.

  • "It's like all my life until this very moment I was nothing!" hahahahaha. This musical is where feminism goes to die. It's a great musical, but still

  • @IsThisTourrets it means that the boy gave her his school pin and now she can only go out with him.

@The Video LOL the guy trying to get a prom date calling different girls.

  • what is "going steady?" because these days u just date someone and then 2 weeks later u guys kiss then 2 weeks later u dump each other.

  • @quisengprincess it wasn't really very different back then. each generation likes to think so

  • what do they mean by pinned? because i have a feeling it means something much different these days?

  • I'm doing this in my play. I'm Ursala. :D

  • this movie is BEAST!

  • I would go to the dance with poor harvey :)
