So I can now play this whole song. My problem? The last line of the first verse. Damn it Mark, I can't hear the words lol. But this is a great song, and thank you for it.
@PalferyMusic That James Dean he was a looker, Lord, a rebel with no cause, I bet I'd look good in leather, In a convertible car, Now I'm screamin' down the highway, Puffin on a cigarette, But somethin' just don't add up, When you check the arithmatic, That's what it sounds like to me. You should post a vid of you playing this! ;)
@jimbody1 Ah, my hero lol. One of those things that sounds obvious when you know it lol. I'm posting some tracks in Jan and may well post this one. Cheers, mate..
I am not trying to spam, honestly!! My band want to get a little exposure and I feel that this is a good way, ish. Could you please come and check out out music, we don't have many videos on yet but we will be uploading more soon! We are a jam band/adult alternative/anything really! Thank you for reading this :)
Quit being a bunch of guitar hipsters and just enjoy the simplistic beauty of the music. I've been a fan of this guy for some time now, and his lyrics are what makes him such and intriguing artist to listen to. He's got soul; it's like he's a wise 85 year old in a 24 year old's body.
i've been wandering a long time now. halfway across the country and back, on foot. it's hard to describe the measure of loneliness you feel when you're on the road alone, but this song comes close.
Reminds me of my child hood listening to Dads music when he was driving...I still listen to Johny Cash in the car then put on my favorite Hard Core or Punk albums.
You don´t need to be the most skillful musician, you only have to be honest to yourself and then the feeling and soul bubble out, you cannot do anything about it. :)
Music is credibility, soul and feeling, not more.
The musicians, which have understood that, I respect the most.
Is really impossible to just plain recognize when something is good and not downplay it? Yes this is simple, but it needs no comparison to anything more technical.
there is more than just great guitar on candyrat , there is also great vocals, great lyrics ,great piano, great violinists, great bassists etc ... i hate when ppl just say that the guitar isnt complicated enough... they have lost the meaning of what they should be looking for in good music IMO. like ppl going to see movies for FX and not the story ...cheap thrills. reminds me of ppl who like commercial crap .
@BoushoC He means people don't like the simple open-position chord type playing because it's compared to the complex fingerstyle stuff other CandyRat artists play. This guitar playing really is quite simple, but music of course isn't all about complexity and simplicity.
What a great pianist. Maybe basic guitar chords, but the whole song just sounds so relaxing! For me, this is one of the best songs of Mark Minelli, with a great thank to the pianist!
To be honest this is the only artist from CandyRat that I'm not impressed with. No doubt it's good, but CandyRat has a reputation of presenting really fucking awesome artists, not just good ones.
you shouldn't try to like a song just because its presented by "candyrat".. that's just absurd.. or you feel the music in you or not, taking a chance in it just because its candyrat, its like taking the credibility of the song and the one who wrote it, "well... that's just my opinion.... man.."
Having bought Gift Horse, I'm used to that Bossa feeling music from Mark. This is too folky for my Mark Minelli taste. I feel like if it wasn't him, I would dig it more. But it's just not what I want to hear from him.
Isn't Candyrat about getting out good music and not just great guitarists? This is a great sounding song with good vocals, very nice piano, and a simple guitar chord pattern that allows for the better vocals and piano to take control of the song. Guitar is not the be all and end all of musical instruments and it does not always need to be the lead of a song. Quit complaining and expand your horizons.
i don't give a fuck what some of you people say. This guy a good and I think CandyRat needs to keep him around. I mean it's all about diversity while still keeping the bar at the highest level right? Well Mark Minelli my good sir, you have if anything, pushed the bar up a notch.
So what if it's similar to Bob Dylan? Dylan is one of the greatest songwriters of all times. Doesn't feel like a Dylan-copy to me though, as he puts his own feel to it. Just similar. I might not think all of his songs are great, but imo there's no question about his talent.
People worry too much about the quality of the guitar playing. This dude's songwriting is excellent, he is to songwriting what 'Don Muh Fuckin Ross' is to acoustic guitar, what Michael Manring is to bass and what Reign of Kindo are to pure band musicianship. There have been plenty of singer-songwriters on here before and I think you self proclaimed purists need to open your minds, this cat is great.
It's not about a song being simple, it's about singing and playing it with soul. Wonderwall by Oasis is the simplest guitar riff ever but it's one of this centuries greatest songs. This is a great example of that, and the piano works amazingly with this song, you need to listen more into this song everybody! : )
"John" by Mark Minelli is one of my top 10 favorite songs ever. I'd love to see more of that style, but if this is where he's happy, I support him. This is the best so far from his new album. Great piano too. :]
man im not sure how i feel about this. i mean great vocals, but the guitar is well... i wont call it bad. i'll call it simple. I enjoy the sound i just dont really like where the candy rat label is heading. its seems these days its not about "excellence" its about different and good. Personally i would prefer more "excellent" artists. nic Barron, andy mckee, antoine dufour, Don muh fuckin ross, and mathew santos. idk to each their own. like i said i enjoyed it...
@xXConfuocoXx "Direction CandyRat is heading"... wth you talkin 'bout? CandyRat has had these kind of singer-songwriter guys as long as they've had Mckee and the rest. The instrumental acoustic is a really specific style, it'd be weird for a label to only focus on that.
And music isn't all about playing fast and having crazy good technique... I've heard from CandyRat guitarists themselves that most of them listen to music you'd probably label as "simple".
@BrighamHB You obviously didnt pay attention to what i was saying. The first and last artists i listed were singer songwriters. Nic Barron and Matthew Santos. They have something special, an amazing talent in both instrumental and vocal styling. that's what separates the good from the great when it comes to singer songwriters. I never said it was all about playing fast, or having crazy good technique, but playing a few chords strummed out with a simple ass rhythm and a capo just isnt great.
@xXConfuocoXx Ah, sorry, somehow kissed the part about Santos and Barron. But personally I don't see how the 'excellence' you're talking about doesn't apply to Minelli. If it's not about technique, what is it? He's not the greatest guitar player, granted, but he makes good music, and you yourself said you liked how it sounded. I still prefer his first album over this, but he's still a good songwriter.
@xXConfuocoXx It is still completely about "excellence". Candy Rat has had this artist for quite sometime. If you looked through the whole candyrat page you would realize that excellence can describe not only mad guitar skills, but also brilliant song writing. This artist isn't striving for fancy stuff, he is breaking it down and finding beauty in the simplicity that a guitar can have. Whilst carrying a lovely melody and gorgeous lyrics full of meaning. Candy rat is in an amazing direction.
@xXConfuocoXx simple isn't bad, simplistic is bad. I've got a hunch that these guys aren't being simple because they have to be. They're being simple because that's how they wanted the song to sound.
@xXConfuocoXx I agree with you in a way, but I think this song really reflects the fact that music can be simple, as you say this is, and genius at the same time. I'm sure this genre is not of everyone's liking, but that doesn't mean its bad or not "excellent". I subscribed to candyrat because I think the guitarists they represent are greatly skilled, but since I did I learned that great music doesn't have to be technically difficult, expressing oneself(as this guy sure does)is what its all about!
@xXConfuocoXx Sure the guitar is simple, but the lyrics and singing is the "excellence" that comes from Candyrat. I've always enjoyed Mark Minelli, he seems to be taking a turn in his style, but I think it works. The thing I enjoy most is that it is so different from the mainstream things that are all over the media.
@xXConfuocoXx Mark's good..it's just that he's going for a more mellow tone..try to listen to some of his older stuff from CANdYRAT like Murder in the Streets or John and you'll see his true talent :)
@xXConfuocoXx I don't think it's where the whole channel is heading, this dude's music only pops up every now and then but the rest of the guitar videos are still amazing. I just skip the videos when I see this guy's name in the title usually. Not my cup of tea but I still really enjoy the other videos uploaded on the Candyrat channel.
