I'm up north and my ceremony was a bit different, because we weren't allowed to do our ceremonies, we didn't pass them down as much as we wanted. So seeing your post here is commendable. I understand about sacred and I think that those that disrespect this medicine are the ones that will have to deal with the consequences. I wish that I had a video of my ceremony so I could share it with our people. Miigwetch!

@dawnblueclover Yeah they used to be banned as well as anything that wasn't "white" or fit into "white" society. But powwows were never sacred..... They were and still are mainly just social events.... Just nowadays you have to pay to get in.

Some people/dancers see something and think its cool and try to copy, without any regard to its spiritual meaning and importance. Like those hobbyists that wear otter turbans or steal ribbonwork/beadwork designs.

Too many peopled suffered and died to preserve it. We owe it to our ancestors and elders to revere and preserve it too!
Over 30 years ago, I attended a sunrise ceremony. It was absolutely beautiul for me, a white person, to be asked if I would like to stay and learn. Though I refused to take photos, the medicine man told me I could stay and witness the ENTIRE ceremony, which, according to the Apache, a portion is sacred and no white person is permitted. The Apache are wonderful people, and out of respect for them and their culture, I graciously declined their offer, but was honored that I had been asked.

You know you better than to video the Gaan. They are sprits who come to us during these special moments and then their spirits go back up into the mountains. Do not keep their spirits here on earth with the prayers they are suppose to take back.

It is a beautiful thing to see my Indian Family dancing and celebrating!
If the family is aware of the posting of this video then there is no direspect.
How I miss my hertitage and culture in Az. I am part Apache and I love to see the dance.
It is not a bad thing to see our culture love one another!!

had permission from my cousin(mother), godmother, and medicine man.
medicine man said prior to the dance, "teach others who we are and the way of apache life, n educate others"
both parents proud of dance and willin to share to the world.
