Hey mate awesome vid. Btw i'm a chick am seriously contemplating giving this a go myself going to try and get hubby into it first. Booked in to take the course end of next month. Me personally i've had my normal drivers license for donkeys have both manual and auto is it hard to drive them they look SOOOO cool. No other machine i'd want to direct in a mine don't know why. Have you heard mines are looking for more female drivers also?
@lambchoprmajg hey! lots of mines got chick drivers i hear. i never drove an off road truck but hear i there's nothing to it! my rig is a over the road truck. it's a tandem axle, 13 speed dump truck. i haul everything from asphalt to snow!! you and yer man should get into truckin, lots of fun at work, and you make money doin it!! cheers!!
@HateGovernment no, i was on a construction site, never touched pavement. i should wear it out on the highway, but i don't. got a $167.00 fine last year too. bastards!
its kinda funny becuase on the new truck i got, (not sure why) you cant use the clutch at all to drive, only to put it into first or reverse. im kinda besidemyself why i cant clutch/double clutch when i need to slow down in a hurry. yes i know i should be slow when rolling up to a light but sometimes shit happens......anyone know why my truck hates the clutch? lol
@90849085 well yeah i know how to shift without it but still when im downshifting i like to clutch cuz i can do it way faster (always one of those asshole women drives who rather slam on the breaks then make it through a light) but its cool i found out it called a break clutch and know how it works now. :)
@thecanadianwill i use the clutch downshifting sometimes too, i know what you mean about the seat covers stoppin short! lol good you got er figured out driver! keep the shiny side up!!
im 20 years old i was shown how to drive a big rig first at age 14 before a car lol an now just recently i learned how to drive dump trucks an work on them
@skl1cent you kinda got to know how to drive a big rig, it ain't like driving a car. in canada you need a class 3 with air brakes to drive a tandem truck, and a class 1 to drive a 18 wheeler. you have to take written tests, get a medical done, do a driving test with a rig, and know how to do a pretrip inspection.
@90849085 heheh sweeeet! def not like driving a car :) I do drive a 5 speed eclipse tho ;) heh
so I'm good when it comes to shifting gears LOL its just that i have no clue where they are on a truck LOLLL never tried it LOLLL I think I need a class B here in the US :) its prettty aweome tho :) what kinda truck do you drive?
@skl1cent right now i'm getting the bugs worked out in our spare truck, a '88 Ford Louisville tandem. normally i drive a '95 Ford LTL Aeromax with 435 hp Cat and a 8LL transmission. i haul everything from asphalt to snow! lots of fun, it's a great job. you can do it, it ain't rocket science! there is lots of rigs on the road and someone gotta drive em! good luck gettin yer class B, keep the shiny side up eh
Cool vid. Grew up watchin my daddy doin what you do. Spent good times watchin him drive as a boy. he made it look so easy just like you do man..He musta been your age right now..real good vid man..it was like i was sittin there again watchin him drive..he passed on way too soon..good memories..thanks.
@redreaper2020 i'm from Canada's east coast. i drive a tandem axle dump truck hauling anything from asphalt to snow. i'm not a long hauler, just local. i like being home every nite
@norfolkdash9 i haul ashpalt, gravel, rock fill, anything. hauling asphalt, i gotta dump in a spreader and get pushed while dumping. gravel is pretty staight forward. hauling fill can get a little sketchy with the mud and dumping on slants and stuff. it's all good though. give er a try
@norfolkdash9 in canada you need a class 3 with air brakes. you'd have to get a medical, do a driving test and a pretrip inspection on a tandem truck. i get paid just fine too
@jesusonXTC i taught myself, with the help of an old time trucker. it's a little different than driving a car, that's for sure. i'm sure a driver training school would teach you what you need to know
@Smartalogu i need the clutch when i am stopped, but as long as i'm rolling i don't need to use the clutch. as u can see i can shift just fine without it. it doesn't hurt the transmission to shift without the clutch if you know what you're doing. no need to wear out the clutch for no reason. do you drive a big rig? if so, do you double clutch every shift? if yes, why?
@90849085 Let me tell you a story happened in my country. A police man pulled over a young man that was riding on his bicycle, but without hands. When the police man ask why he says that he only need the handle bar when he get on the bicycle. Hearing this the police man did something funny. He unscrew the screw of the handle bar and took it and he said. If you don't use it you don't need it. What I want to say is that some engineers put the clutch there to be used.
@90849085 Yes I am working on heavy machines but my experience told me that a clutch can be changed more quickly and less expensive than a transmission. In 20 years I've changed on one machine 2 transmissions and only one clutch this summer. If you look closely at you video you will see how your car is screaming at you to use the clutch. Watch at how you pull the lever to change gears. When you use the clutch the lever almost goes for himself.
@90849085 ha you definitely are experienced! my dad drives pretty much the same way and would say the same thing. im actually learning to drive one. im only 17 but hey, my dad wants at least one of his three girls to know how to drive one :P
@MrJDMasFuk not hard at all, but not like a car. you gotta keep yer brakes adjusted, and down shift. jake brake is nice, but that old binder doesn't have one.
@kdlt235 yeah it's all local, i don't go too far. sometimes when i haul gravel i don't stop all day. when i haul asphalt there is some sitting around waiting to dump or to get a load. today i was on a site job and i hauled 1 load of fill 5 minutes away and got 10 hours. site work is hourly pay, and gravel and asphalt is by the tonne. how much per tonne depends on how far you're going. i work for a small family owned business with 4 tandems. we rely on construction companies to hire us.
@islands Its called floating and it save a hell of a lotta wear n tear the only thing is the syncros can go out but its still cheaper then replace clutch parts
@bossman380 i'm in nova scotia, canada, and my father has a trucking company... so not hard for me. getting a licence here requires a written test, a pre trip inspection of tandem truck with air, and a driving test. you might find it hard to drive a truck at first, but practice makes better....good luck!!
@90849085 I've driven those huge tow trucks, you know the kind that tows dump trucks, rvs, and things like that. Which of course was illegal for me to do at the time, but stuff happens. I found that to be some what easy. Here in the USA, I have no clue what the requirements are. But thanks for taking the time to reply back to my comment!

Hey 90849085, I have a couple of questions if you don't mind;
1)How far do you usually drive in a day? is it all pretty local?
2) Do you work for a company or is that your own rig?
3) Are you paid by the hour or mile? and roughly how much do you make a year?
3) IF you did own your own dump truck, is it possible to contract your work out in the same way an indipendent over-the-road trucker would?
