I'm amazed at the responses to this video. People think that what is done on the zumba floor is actually the correct dance. Yes they are the steps but to actually do the dance on a performance floor you need to understand the muscles used. Thank you for providing a detailed explanation of the movement. To practice the correct techniques will make the dance look more fluid in movement.
@salenaardoin - Well, actually the "bounce" she presented as international Samba technique - is quite imperfect. On a competition for adult, "seasoned" dancers this would result in low to no scores. However, the technical flaws might not matter to a person who just enjoys being engaged in some activity without a purpose to become a competitive dancer - but again - why go learn competitive ballroom - social would do fine. The lady in the video seems nice and seems to enjoy hersef teaching

You fools she's actually breaking down the proper technique. Which is very important for dance. Any dance you learn it's important to learn proper technique at the beginning to prevent injury and also muscle memory of incorrect techniqe.

I have often felt that ballroom took their inspiration from various folkdances - and then mass marketed their version of it with competition and studio franchises. Thanks to increasing cross cultural communication via YouTube people can see what has been happening to their respective folk dances over the years and others can see what those dances actually are in their original form.
It's so interesting how samba is from Brazil but it has to be called Brazilian samba so as not to confuse it with "samba" as danced in ballroom. Same thing with Argentine Tango, Afro Cuban Rumba and Dominican Bachata. Ballroom has taken over these labels to such a degree that we now have to use the name of the country from which the label actual came from to distinguish it. Would it be like using the term Japanese sushi? I tend to call this kind of samba "ballroom samba".

We only call it Samba because the other person knows what we are talking about and if they didn't then we would then differentiate between the two. This is actually an EXCELLANT demonstration of the ballroom samba. It is essential the "bounce comes from the contraction of the abs". She obviously is a good dancer and teacher. If all you know is Brazillian carnival samba you should shut your mouth, and take some lessons in other dances and enjoy the diversity of music and dance. I dance American and International style Latin dances and it is fun and challenging. But I don't put down other dances.

Geez it's either the Brazilians with "their samba" or the Argentines with "their tango". When will they ever realize that no one in ballroom dancing cares about their opinions in this matter. Ballroom will not change just because they don't like what we call our dances. Hopefully they are intelligent enough to realize that, go away and do what they claim are their dances and leave the rest of us alone. But maybe that's too much to hope for because there's not much intelligence there.

Eles (da escola international) mudou completamente samba tradicional e criou uma outra versão-- não vem dos EUA. Eu já disse que esta dança não é samba tradicional.

This is actually an EXCELLANT demonstration of the ballroom samba. It is essential the "bounce comes from the contraction of the abs". She obviously is a good dancer and teacher. If all you know is Brazillian carnival samba you should shut your mouth, and take some lessons in other dances and enjoy the diversity of music and dance. I dance American and International style Latin dances and it is fun and challenging. But I don't put down other dances.

@niquester You are wrong, dear. This dance does have it's roots in Africa. Even though you "you think" it's only a few basic steps, it can be very complex. However,
african slaves did developed into many different ways when moved to other countries, adapting other steps an moves. If you're suggesting that europeans invented the "so difficult" dance, think again.
