Honda deliberately didn't give the Pilot the 300hp engine from the Acura MDX, for fear of the Pilot taking sales away ferom the MDX....very lame move Honda.
The Problem with them is Right infront of the back tire. The paint there gets chipped up very badly. The front wheel wells are not large enough to cover the tire at all times. Side steps would probably prevent this from happening.
I like buttons. Actually the whole center stack should be made out of buttons. Dumb asses they complain if you put buttons they still complain if you centrelize things with a knob as in BMW iDrive. What do you want man? tailor made car is way beyond our budgets.
Who cares, it looks like an SUV to me and I can`t stand SUV`s. They turn people into instant assholes the second they drive them. I mean really, if you are stuck in traffic on a highway because there`s an accident up ahead, 99.999% of the time you can bet it`s SUV that`s involved and because the person driving that SUV was driving like an asshole. They should ban SUV`s and keep assholes off the road. That would make a good slogan; "BAN SUV`s - KEEP ASSHOLES OFF THE ROAD"...It`s sooo damn true.

DJFG85 you forget that Both GM and Ford have best in catagory scores and further GM cars are hardly shoddy, since motor week,motor trend and even top gear like what Chevy has done, and at the end of the day toyota is now the big loser as they have admitted to issues kept hidden over the last four years, I will say honda is a better choice than toyota, but the traverse is by the numbers superior to the pilot.

even so, i seem to remember motor trend or car and driver rating the pilot the best mid sized crossover SUV a year or two ago (after they redesigned it)

@starview1 actually, it doesnt necessarily get better fuel economy. the epa doesnt take into account the VCM feature on the pilot, which increses the fuel economy for us immensely. weve been getting close to 20 mpg through mostly city driving, and on highway trips we'll get in the mid to upper 20's
also the perfomrance is a bit down on paper fromt he others, but you dont really notice it, i mean, you cant race with it, but who would race with a big suv?
i test drove the pilot and the ford flex i highly recommend the flex because of more horsepower, better gas mileage, more room, much better seats,and the passenger seat folds flat along with the 2nd and 3rd row allowing for a 10 foot long bed for luggage.
I would also recommend looking at the new GMC terrain and Mazda CX-7 for buyers in this segment, all nice cars and they don't have that girly CR-V look
Overall a nice review. However if you SAY it's EASY to get into the third row seats, then physically DO IT. I would have liked to see you climb in that third row seat AND sit in there with your 6+ foot frame. I would not call it easy or comfortable for an adult. I own a Pilot and that 3rd row is for kids, or at best cramped for max two adults.
Pathfinder is More cheaper pathfinder is better in carryin bigger stuff
If you have kids and go camping alot and want a good engine car Get the pilot if you have a small family and selling the care maybe in a year or two get the pathfinder because nissans engines are shit

The engine is not bad at all.. And I never said anything bad about the Pilot.. It's just that Petrolheads like me don't easily catch up with all that hype specially with Honda. We check the quality and price of what we're getting. We compare and we dont just listen to what others are saying. We try it out for ourselves.

My only complaint is our service department in palm springs. We had a rattle in the drivers door which took 5 trips in for them to solve the problem, and coming from the marine base each time in 29 palms was a real pain in the butt.
It should not of taken them that many times to solve the issue.

I really want this car. We have a 2003 Honda Odyssey and it surprisingly has the same 3.5 Liter engine but 10 less horse power than the Piolet and 20 less horse power than the Ridgeline. If it has V.Tech, its a Honda

my next door neighbor has one and also the family in front of me. its OK, my younger sister just loves these mid size SUVs. Pilot and the Pathfinder...

pilots are much better than passport because passport are built by Isuzu, we use to own a passport but it was plane interior, cramped backseat and small cargo space because of the tilt hatch glass, I'm glas that pilot replace the Passport because passport is a P.O.S
Test drove 2 Pilots just today and I found that I absolutely love the interior styling and comfort. Everything is very well placed. Great driving SUV, exceptional value.

About the exterior, yes, it would probably take me 10 years to grow on it.. Well, I ended up in a Borrego. Better overall except ofcourse, for its "badge"..

my mom just bought one, had a 1997 Caravan before. This Pilot sucks ass....the interior is all hard and cheep plastic, and the ride is worse that the '97 caravan. there is also NO POWER, 250 is a lot of horses, but not for a fugly tank like this
Just purchased a 2009 all black with black leather, fully loaded with custom wheels...great smooth ride! My previous autos include Caddy STS, 2 Ford trucks, and a Mercury,...now I own the Pilot and an 07 Civic Coup and not looking back.
What ticks me about the Honda Pilot are the commercials. "Surprisingly fuel efficient" WTF? 23MPG on the Highway sucks. My 1971 Plymouth GTX with a 440 Magnum (that's 7.2 liters for you kiddies) got that kind of mileage and it rolled off the assembly line with almost 400HP...stock!

I have an 2009 Honda Pilot. It is a great SUV. We got 28 mpg on our trip to the beach. No highway. You can go between 3 cylinders, 5 or 6 cylinders. We try to drive with the ECO light on most of the way. I love driving the new Pilot. I have had no problems with it whatsoever.
Horrible mileage for a mini-box van. I have a Chrysler 300 SRT, with a 5.7 liter V-8 and I get 25-26 mpg overall mileage. Nice try Honda but no cigar.
I really like the new interior, I thought the first generation interior was super cheap looking. I could not stand all the plastic. But I would consider a Pilot now with all the changes they have made.
I have a 06' pilot and I think the only good things that I like about the 09' models are the expanded cargo room in the back, the headrests on the seats (you dont have to take them off to lay the seats down), the handles to get in and out of the car, and the air conditioning vents for the 3rd row. Other than that, I love my o6' and its features.
the good: i love the exterior styleing! it has that all american look instead of the crappy wacky foriegn look that some other foreign cross overs have. however, it looks a little too dodge/chrysler/jeep inspired design.
the bad: i hate the location of the gear select. also the dash really is too crowded with buttons.
in the end: ill just stick with the chevy tahoe hybrid, it has the same outside styleing, yet the interior is perfectly layed out, and about the same mpg.
I hate how this pilot looks! I like the first pilot look 10x better

are u kidding me? its engine is one of the least powerful among its competitors. it's even no where near the V6 of the Chevy Traverse when I drove it.. Dude, you might wanna test drive "other" CUVs with V6. I test drove the Pilot 2 months ago and it got me under 10secs from 0-60.. Not bad though, but the KIA Borrego V6 took it in under 8secs.

pilots are much better than passport because passport are built by Isuzu, we use to own a passport but it was plane interior, cramped backseat and small cargo space because of the tilt hatch glass, I'm glas that pilot replace the Passport because passport is a P.O.S

Test drove 2 Pilots just today and I found that I absolutely love the interior styling and comfort. Everything is very well placed. Great driving SUV, exceptional value.

That's correct. The most important thing is it's taller, so it's easier to get in and out of it. Height to the roof is 71 inches.

I really like the interior design except that it's full of "plastic".. For its price, it doesn't feel luxurious at all. The CX-9 and Veracruz have better materials. About the exterior, yes, it would probably take me 10 years to grow on it.. Well, I ended up in a Borrego. Better overall except ofcourse, for its "badge"..

my mom just bought one, had a 1997 Caravan before. This Pilot sucks ass....the interior is all hard and cheep plastic, and the ride is worse that the '97 caravan. there is also NO POWER, 250 is a lot of horses, but not for a fugly tank like this

Just purchased a 2009 all black with black leather, fully loaded with custom wheels...great smooth ride! My previous autos include Caddy STS, 2 Ford trucks, and a Mercury,...now I own the Pilot and an 07 Civic Coup and not looking back.

What ticks me about the Honda Pilot are the commercials. "Surprisingly fuel efficient" WTF? 23MPG on the Highway sucks. My 1971 Plymouth GTX with a 440 Magnum (that's 7.2 liters for you kiddies) got that kind of mileage and it rolled off the assembly line with almost 400HP...stock!

The 06-08 Pilots are way better looking (although they ain't pretty) than the ugly new 09. for me the side, the rearmost side windows, the rear and the dash's huge blank sides are the worst. The grille I find OK, but only if partially blacked out as some have done.

I have an 2009 Honda Pilot. It is a great SUV. We got 28 mpg on our trip to the beach. No highway. You can go between 3 cylinders, 5 or 6 cylinders. We try to drive with the ECO light on most of the way. I love driving the new Pilot. I have had no problems with it whatsoever.

Horrible mileage for a mini-box van. I have a Chrysler 300 SRT, with a 5.7 liter V-8 and I get 25-26 mpg overall mileage. Nice try Honda but no cigar.

I have a 06' pilot and I think the only good things that I like about the 09' models are the expanded cargo room in the back, the headrests on the seats (you dont have to take them off to lay the seats down), the handles to get in and out of the car, and the air conditioning vents for the 3rd row. Other than that, I love my o6' and its features.

the good: i love the exterior styleing! it has that all american look instead of the crappy wacky foriegn look that some other foreign cross overs have. however, it looks a little too dodge/chrysler/jeep inspired design.
the bad: i hate the location of the gear select. also the dash really is too crowded with buttons.
in the end: ill just stick with the chevy tahoe hybrid, it has the same outside styleing, yet the interior is perfectly layed out, and about the same mpg.
