  • is this tuned in a or f?

  • 5 people do not have a brain

  • u dead?

  • im making one in my woodshop class

  • wizard of oz

  • Hi, how much is this specific ocarina? And what series number is this? I'm on mobile and theres no picture next to the ocarinas thats listed on the website. Amazing play btw :)

  • what do you mean it could be me??????

  • thumbs up if he kinda looks like he'd molest your children

  • how i can get one? and how much it cost? I´m from Mexico.

  • i loved it!!

  • You just won my subscription! :P -clicks-

  • i want to buy this from you whats your web sight

  • y dont you sell wood sopranos that are 12 hole anymore? i can only find corian ones

  • y dont you sell wood sopranos that are 12 hole anymore?

  • That sounds really pleasing!

  • Man, wish I had a heart...or a brain....maybe some courage.

  • The sound is very soft. Most soprano ocarina are so high pitched that it's ear-breaking. That's some great quality ocarinas you are making there!

  • When I have the money this will be the first ocarina i buy from you :D

  • I bought a Hind Alto C sweet potato in cocobolo with walnut and bloodwood accents. It's absolutely beautiful and sounds amazing. If it had a subhole for the lowest note, it would be perfect. If you have the money, buy one. I've never heard a better sounding ocarina!

  • anybody have tabs or sheetmusic for this song ?

  • Is that ocarina waterproof and durable?

  • Waterproof - depends what you mean. Some woods put in water are getting harder and harder (oak, for ex. - type black oak in google). Other rot after short time. But basicly wood are able to "drink" and than remove water by evaporation.

Durable - again - the anwser depends on what you mean by that. Wood won't brake if you drop it on the floor (clay probably will). It will won't last few thousands of years (however there was ancient furniture found 3000 years old). And it's much softer than clay.

  • ''if i only had a heart''

''if i only had a brain''

    Wizard Of Oz FTW!

  • Is it waterproof? Is it durable?

  • Wizard of Oz ftw!

  • that has got to be the best sounding ocarina I've ever heard, what kind of wood did you use and do you still sell them?

  • waaaaww

  • wow! cool!

  • Now I know exactly which ocarina I'm gonna buy! Thanks a lot!

  • awesome im gonna get 1 =D

    thx

  • Wizard of OZ, awesome

  • this is soo bad ass lol

    awsome vid

  • wow idk if i could get 1 n im tight on money

  • Nah,M.r. Hind is awesome!

  • Mr hind, I like to work with wood, and lately I got interested in ocarinas, would you recommend me some website that explains how to make one out of wood please?

  • thath is, if i had a brain right?

  • yes, that is "if i only had a brain" from "the wizard of oz"

  • how much is the walnut?

  • A current price list is available for download on the sweet potato page of my website.

  • thank you

  • i'm a 12 year old who is used to using songbird ones but is it desame as the mr.songbird?

    and why is it expensive?

    just asking

  • Its made of wood instead of clay and has warmer tone than clay and not likely to break apart of you drop it and its also handmade.

  • It's hard to make a sweet potato style ocarina out of wood. It takes a long time, so it costs more.

  • if i would buy one in different kind of wood

    and i have a question

would the wood warp or something?

  • Warping is not a problem because I take a lot of steps to relieve the stress in the wood before I glue it together.

  • but its expensive

    why?

  • Because the work and craftsmanship put into a hind is a LOT more tedious than making a clay or plastic ocarina. ;) he isn't molding, hes cutting, sawing, trimming, sanding, and all that jazz into the ocarina!

  • it does have such a pretty sound!!

  • FREEBIRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hello great vids i was wondering how i would go about making a wooden ocarina possibly a 4 hole? i like the small size and every time i try to make one out of clay it caves in and my work gets wrecked. any suggestions? are there any good sites i could also use for instructions on making a wooden 4 hole ocarina i have the materieals to make it and the tools but not the proper idea/ hole placement and mouthpiece making skills please rsvp thanks- DJElectroStatik

  • Check out The Ocarina Network, Ocarinas United, and Yahoo Ocarina Club. All three forums have posts about ocarina making.

  • Not only are you a master of your craft, but you also play wonderfully!

  • This video made me both laugh and listen in awe...you're pretty good!

  • I'm worried about the cold here... can't have the wood warped... But then again, that's Holland. Cold, hot, wet, dry.

  • i hope to own one of your ocarinas some day but they are expensive it would be so proud to own one.

  • superb!

  • ya know man id think you were a weirdo if yer playing wasnt so dam funky.

  • Very nice

  • do u sell em?

  • search for "hind ocarinas" on google and you'll find his website :)

  • I was wondering what kind of maintenance they need. Does spit etc get caught in the chamber. Does the wood swell or crack and does it need any shea butter or anything (my djembe needs shea butter so i figure this would too.)

  • Where did you get your Ocarina?

  • he makes them.:)

  • He makes them.

  • wow... ive seen a few of ur videos, im somewhat of a begginer 2 playing ocarinas and i was looking at ur website and i was wondering which one would be better for a less expirienced player, or if it even matters

  • lol i beleive thats from the wizard of oz isnt that correct??

  • if only we all had a brain...

  • Mr.Hind when you say keep wooden ocarinas away from extreme hot or cold does it mean i can't buy one cause im in florida...

  • No, it means don't leave it in your car in the hot sun all day long. Treat it like you treat yourself...keep it comfortable, and it should last for generations.

  • thank you so much Mr.Hind im planning on getting one of your ocarinas soon =)

  • Dude, those ocarinas are awesome, but they're so expensive! Some are like $300!!!

Come on man... can't you sell them cheaper.

    WWJD?

  • great work man you may be old but your one hell of a good ocarina artist

  • dude, not cool. ur roommate should watch what he says man....

  • Sound amazing! I'll definitely be buying one your ocarinas sometime, hopefully sometime soon :) I love the "It could be you" bit at the end xD

  • you're simply amazing and they look so beautiful... though I admit my first try will be with your amazing double ocarinas... I feel like i've discovered a treasure, i'm so happy to have found them!

  • holy sh*t!

    skillz!

  • You make "if only I had a brain" look easy. But you'er still really good

  • old man have to look scary !its just like that !

  • ..and I don't want you owning one of his precious creations? =)

  • I just had to come back and watch videos of my favorite ocarina maker. Thank you for your comments on mine! I do have to say, you might come off as a slightly erm.. 'mental'. In a good way I suppose? Teehee.

  • Eh? What on earth are you talking about?

  • Thank you for the comment at the end...you are absolutely right.

  • you are a great ocarina player

i hope i get that good

  • you made me cry for the first song

  • its a really nice one but u looked kinds mental at the begining but nice ocarina

  • He's enlightened!

I already have a deep respect for this man as a music lover...This has inspired me to do my best and become that good (or as close to as good as that....)

  • I am trying to resist the urge to purchase an ocarina on my credit card, and wait until my family buys me one for my Birthday... not too far off. Augh, so beautiful. You are a master craftsman, Mr. Hind!

  • You are very good at playing, what song is it, and where did you find the tabs?

  • It's "If I only had a brain"

  • nice

  • that's a really good ocarina

  • I need helpo with ocarinsa

  • I just purchased a Bass Sweet Potato in Mahogany. I can hardly wait to post videos and pictures of the beautiful instrument in my hands, making beautiful, angelic music.

Mr. Hind, I have the utmost respect for you and am truly honored to play an instrument made by you.

  • PLs help me! I tryied to make a wooden myself but failed when cutting the voice hole. Pls give me a tip, it's not like I'm going to take you out of buisness or anything :D

  • Your a genious!!

  • Hand crafted, wow, ocarinas cant get any better than yours.

  • you are the best player ever

  • Woooo Hooooo! That is one of our favorite songs! Hi Charlie!

    Sandi and Richard

  • It takes several days.

  • Approximently how long does it take to make one of you very nice ocarinas? It would seem to be at the very least 4 hours.

  • Thanks for your interest PJR. I know it's a big investment; it would be for me too. If I could mass produce these ocarinas, the price could be lower. However, there are no shortcuts that will produce the same pure tone I am looking for. I make each one as if I am making it for myself, sanding down to 1200 grit and then buffing and polishing until it glistens like a gem. I hope you will put it on your wish list for birthdays or other special occasions. Who knows...somebody might surprise you.

  • damn you hind.

do you have any idea how much i want one of your beautifully crafted, amazing sounding wooden ocarinas? A LOT.

But you had to go and sell em for hundreds of dollars. Thats money that I don't have. You make me joyous and sad at the same time.

  • Sotail-Thanks. I've been playing ocarina for 25 years, but other wind instruments for 45.

Devil-You can get one at the website shown at the end of the video.

  • whered u buy it

  • You could've checked the website written hehe, he's the very crafter of his ocarina.

  • It's brillant i love the sound of your ocarina, ive just recently learned if only i had a brain but you played it excellently

  • It's brillant i love the sound of your ocarina, ive just recently learned if only i had a brain but you played it excellently.

  • Wow youre bloody brilliant!!!!! I was thinking of getting an ocarina.....how long have you been playing?

  • This ocarina is made of Cocobolo. It is a very hard rosewood from Central America. It's one of my all-time favorite woods, because it is very beautiful and produces a really sweet and pure tone.

  • Superior craftmansship.. is that a walnut ocarina or is it in another kind of wood?

  • Because it is very hard to make them so that they sound this good, and it takes a long time. The wood is also expensive, but that's a small part of it. Some customers buy their own wood and have it shipped to me. Sometimes they spend over $100 just for the piece of wood for one sweet potato.

  • howcome you have to sell them for a expensive price. is it your wood. i really want to buy your ocarinas

  • Charlie-

You continue to amaze me. I will get back to you tomorrow about purchasing my sweet potato. Thanks for posting and plz post more vids /songs!!!!

  • where do i buy on dude?

    its nice sounds gr8

  • If i only had a brain I Love it i might learn it on my gutair

  • Your videos and sound samples continue to intrigue me, Mr. Hind.

I have just spent an hour or so reading from your website. It sure was an enjoyable and meaningful read for me as a beginner ocarina player and collector. I look forward to enjoying your wonderful ocarinas in the near future hopefully. Oh yes, and I'll get the Walnut (hopefully you have some of your original sawed batch left) :-D

  • How much do they cost?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?

  • Awesome!

  • Sir, I need one of your ocarinas, and I need one now!

  • sir even though your ocarinas are exspensive they sure make good sounds :)

  • That's a supurb ocarina you have there. I've been searching, and your website has the most astounding selection! I'm a big fan of your wooden ocarinas. 25 years of experience shows through your videos! 5 stars, sir.

  • Bravo Charlie, very nice!!!

    Paolo

  • sir, you have the skills^^ very nice sound and okarina.

  • very nice sir, very beatiful performance.

  • Very good! I love the sound of your ocarinas and you play very well. Im practicing the ocarina as well and I hope one day to be as good as you. Thanks for posting your vids :)

  • What a beautiful sound!

  • I'm looking into buying an ocarina and I'm leaning more to one made by you ^_^ Out of everything I've looked at,yours are the most beautifully crafted in my opinion.

You play very well, I hope to be as good as you

  • i have to say im quite impressed it does sounds great and you play well.. hehe i thought he was gonna bust out some zelda tune :)

  • johnniz13, yes the vibrato is done with the breath. You can probably find a lot of instructional information about it on the internet.

  • irishkid, of course I remember you. I'm glad you like the sweet potato. Thanks for posting.

    Charlie

  • I was just wondering, how do u get the vibrato...controling your breath or somthing???

  • teach me how to make one OH GREAT Obi- 1- Hind- obi

  • I don't know why you would insult me. I've never done anything to you. Please don't say hurtful things to others...especially in public forums.

    Good luck in life.

  • hey mr. hind remember me lol i love my ocarina by the way i bought the alto sweet potato ocarina at stone mountain i love it so much

  • This ocarina uses the standard sweet potato fingering. The compact size necessitates putting the two rows of holes side by side, but the right hand holes still have to be opened first as you play up the scale. You can see my fingering charts in the information link on my website. Thanks.

  • Mr Hind,

It's interesting how the fingering is arranged. I had thought it would be same as normal sweet potatos, which usually has the finger holes on one row, left hand left, right hand right. With this compact shape that you have, you seem to have more freedom about which holes to uncover first.

  • dang youre good and thanks some day it will be me

  • Thanks. I built a guide for my router for hollowing it out. I cut and shape as much as I can with the router, then the final shaping is done of drum sanders.

  • very nice ocarina. how did you make it?

  • That was outstanding. The fact that it is wooden, gives it such a rich tone. You have great breath control and phrasing. What a fine musician you are!

  • that was really good.

i really like the sound of that ocarina.

if you do put more vids up, i cant wait to watch them.

  • That sounded wonderful. Don't mind darktiefighter, he's probably just jealous of your skills.

  • Thanks docjazz4. I don't have a lot of time for making videos, but I am interested in having one for each instrument on my website, so I'll probably do more as time permits.

    Charlie

  • Beautiful ocarina Mr. Hind. Will you be posting any of your other ocarina videos?
