I have one question, say you gaff it and it ends up not being big enough to keep... how can you throw it back, it will die... so any ways, a respectful response would be great.
I have to agree with you. Fighting any fish like the mahi, kingfish, jacks or bonito are just more fun and more sporting on lighter tackle, namely spinning gear. I used to catch chicken dolphin off of the pier in Panama city bch, Fla years ago. We used light spinning tackle and pompano jigs. Some greenhorn used his bass fishing gear even. When he caught one using a rattletrap, we started laughing. The guy didn't even know what kind of fish it was. Great memories!!!
I caught an 8.3kg male and a 2.8kg female about 20 miles offshore of Lagos Nigeria. My first ever fishing trip lol, and I won the competition!! Was so happy.
if you want to see some great mahimahi/dorado clips then click on the hawaiifishingaction tag above this message and check out our videos. the "wrestling a 35lb mahimahi" is a real winner. thanks.
I love the week line tactic, thats what Im going out on in a few weeks, but I prefer the lighter side of the line where the water is greener. But thats some damn nice dolphin.
Pretty cool action. If you want to see a well edited video with tons of action check out our HawaiiFishingAction videos on youtube... Specifically, go to "Blue Water Season #1 Mahimahi Madness Preview" for more mahimahi. You won't be let down.
i love how people claim how good of a fisherman they are by boasting that they caught a big fish in another country, lead by a guide to the fish, when the angler did nothing but reel it in.
first never gaff with the hook pointing up like the first time and always hard jabs and if u dont want to miss any fillets extra hard jabs in the head and add fishwrestler's ideas to it
Hey great video. "dude work on your gaffing bro" is not exactly helpfull. When I am teaching a green deckie how to gaff I explain it like this. Use the shaft of the gaff like a sight on a gun. Line the shart of the gaff up with where you want to hit your fish. Basically set the gaff shart next to the head and make a decisive and fluent swing through the fish and into the boat. Happy fishing, Capt. Andy Papworth.

catclaw777 3 years ago
how did they let it go if they show it at the end...dead. and if you gaff something you keep it cause a gaff usualy kills the fish.
