It is very evident that you dance for yourself. it is more of a break dance than belly dance. It lacks the warmth and feeling. Your isolations are good but lack the continuity and fluidity of belly dance.. You're doing your own thing, and that's great, you enjoy it as do your friends. but it's not belly dance.

I.LOVE.THIS. Very nice, totally original and sticking to your own style (which is quite solid and confident). So captivating, the only thing I would say as friendly/helpful critique is add a twirl or two , adds more movement/fluidity on stage & helps ya avoid being 'stuck in the middle' as a picky instructor would put it! :) Nice work

I know my stylization and music choice is not accepted by some bellydancers. but i am not dancing for anyone but myself. hopefully one day you all will be a little more openminded to the world of dance. this is a FUSION piece. thanks for your input though.

Hey Phaedra! I think that what you're doing (putting bellydance moves to hiphop) is pretty nifty. I think you've got lots of potential, but I also think that you can do better. Maybe get a really good hip hop dancer to teach you some specifically hiphop moves (there's a lot) & a really good belly dancer (obv one who's open to fusion!) to teach you specific bellydance moves. This would give you a bigger range which would make you an even better dancer, and make it an even more cohesive fusion :)

Damn Right! I know what you're saying. Fusion is called fusion because you bring the traditional move of belly dance (i.e. belly rolls and hip work) and FUSE it with other moves. There are billions of types of fusion. Burlesque Fusion, Industrial Fusion, etc. There are bunches. And they are all still belly dance. Keep doin' yo' thing!

You don't need lessons, just practice! The moves will come to you... if its meant to be. It takes alot of hard work! But when it comes naturally, it looks so much better. I don't think it looks good when everyone looks so generic, which can come from taking lessons!

I hear you about the music problem, that's why I haven't danced to this day. But I plan to find a DJ with a middle eastern background to make me a mix. It will cost money, but it should be worth it! You can try downloading stuff from limewire...

its so much harder self taught tho there is no one to help you however u almost develope your won style.. i watch other dancers to get ideads and some give away the movements better than others :) but solo learning there is no one to help you much harder much more work.. it can be done tho.. I taught myself and went into my first class knowing more than most of em did. And much more knowledgeable of other styles too!
